16.17% NPC Gamer: Dominating the VRMMORPG With my AI / Chapter 11: New Gear

Kapitel 11: New Gear

"Okay then, where can I buy some good equipment?" Cian asked.

"Instead I have a better idea, just come with me," Darcy said and began walking briskly through the busy street

"I'm really happy you decided to join Aetheria" she added with a face beaming with excitement.

They walked for a while before she noticed blue floating beside Cian

"Cian, how did you get a sprite so soon… I didn't even know they still sell those".

'Are sprites that rare?… but Blue assured me I wouldn't stand out' Cian thought

"I bought it from a trader outside the village," he replied, thinking on his feet.

"A trader? A real one? Are you sure it wasn't a player disguised as an NPC" she asked with concern,

"Of course it was a real trader, why wouldn't It be?" Cian wondered.

"There have just been rumours of Anti-players doing that, they'll wait outside the village and sell dud equipment to new players," Darcy replied

"But even if they hide their name tag, the trick is so obvious I don't believe people actually fall for something as stupid as that, especially someone as smart as you" she continued

'Huh?! What does she mean trick… it couldn't have been… everything checked out with Paddin' His stomach flipped as his mind opened to the possibility that Paddin could have been a con man.

[Master, I believe she overestimates your intelligence]

Darcy noticed the displeased look on his face and felt It was something she had said that offended him.

"I didn't mean you made a mistake buying a Sprite, it's okay for new players, but it just wouldn't be as effective when you level up since you can't level up your Sprite" Darcy added.

This only made Cian feel even worse. A nod accompanied by a forced smile was all he could stomach.

"Okay here we are" Darcy revealed

Darcy had led Cian to a single-story wooden building. "This is called a stash house," she explained. "Players can pay to store their items here, freeing up inventory space for more essential gear."

"I had saved my best low-level gear for when I finally convinced you to come," Darcy was visibly shaking with excitement as she spoke.

"You don't have to do that for me, I still have enough money left to buy equipment" Cian replied.

"No, you are not allowed to refuse, besides 10 gold coins wouldn't even get you a proper sword… Just wait right here, I won't take long" she said, darting into the shop.

'10 gold coins can't get you a proper sword?!' Cian was stunned by her words

[I think this would be the best time to examine that box]

"You think?!" Cian replied sarcastically.

He took the Alchemist box out of his inventory and began examining it

[I think this would be the best time to examine that box]

"You think?" Cian replied sarcastically.

He took the Alchemist box out of his inventory and began examining it

He noticed a few symbols inscribed on it

'What are these?' he wondered.

He recalled one of the few skills that came with his shitty class was 'Inspect',

Cian wondered what was the use of an inspect skill when he already had the player Appraisal function.

'Maybe it'll give me more information' he reasoned

"INSPECT" he called out to activate the skill.

_____

Item name: Alchemist box (pocket version)

Grade: Epic

Info: A box that was created by the first group of master alchemists, it was considered a failed item since their aim was to create a philosopher stone. They couldn't live with their failure, but the box was indestructible, so they did the only logical thing they could do, seal it and then kill themselves.

Condition required to use-: Decipher the rune.

Method of use-: put the two beasts you intend to merge inside the box

–––––

"How could sealing it and ending their lives be the only solution?!… Now, where do I start deciphering the runes if the creators are dead?" Cian sighed in frustration.

[Those are runes written in an ancient text, to decipher the runes a player would have to find a quest that offers you the exact translation of this runic text as a reward]

Cian's stomach churned as he realised Paddin was indeed a con man.

"How would a player find a quest that matches this box in all of Aetheria? It's like searching for a needle in a haystack." He sobbed.

[Yes, for normal players it would seem impossible, but you forget you have something special]

Cian's mood brightened up as he heard blue, "If that something special is you, then I guess you know how to find the quest?"

[Of course, I can do that, but wouldn't you prefer I just decipher the text myself?]

"You can do that!? That's amazing Blue…" Cian said excitedly.

[I know I am, translating ruins like this is an easy task]

"What's got you so excited?" Darcy asked as she returned.

"It's nothing, I was just glad that I have you helping me out" Cian replied,

this made her blush slightly.

"I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. Most of the equipment I have are all above your level, except this few" she said as she handed him the gear.

As Cian appraised the items, he couldn't help but feel thankful to Darcy. After losing his money, he was still able to get such good weapons, all thanks to her.

"This is already good enough Darcy, thank you I don't know what I would have done without you" Cian admitted

"No-no need to thank me, I'm just glad that we get to spend more time together" she replied with a blush.

"Equip" Cian called out

The items materialized on his body, he could feel a slight increase in weight.

"Let's go test them out," Darcy suggested.

Just what he needed, an opportunity to test out himself.

They left the village and went into the wilderness Cian had earlier spawned in. Then Darcy brought out a potion and threw it on the ground, causing it to break.

Then they waited silently for a while.

"Are we waiting for new players?" Cian whispered.

She let out a slight laugh. "Of course not, only Anti-players would do that. That potion is supposed to attract the wild dogs".

"Are Anti-players strong?" Cian inquired.

"Some are, but they aren't added to the player ranking. They level up doing negative quests, and they do not follow the laws of the land" Darcy explained,

"That's why they are ranked by bounty, they are all wanted criminals so you shouldn't even think of joining them, if not I would never forgive you" she added sternly.

"I wouldn't even dream of doing that" Cian replied

He had no plans to make the villagers his enemy and put the NPCs through what the players subjected him to. In fact, this new insight only further fuelled his hatred for the players.

He heard the grass shuffle as three black dogs emerged from it.

Cian smiled as he firmed his grip on the battleaxe.

"They're here. You attack, and I'll support you," Darcy said as she loaded an arrow into her bow.
