"Thank you, Miss Ru." Mei-Mei stared at her new home, which was still far from her. It was built by the seaside and she could almost smell the sandalwood incense.
"Arch, please lay out the features of traditional Japanese dwellings?" Mei-Mei said to Arch in almost a whisper.
"It's features are an open structure with few walls that can be opened and closed with doors, shitomi and sudare, a structure in which shoes are taken off to enter the house on stilts, and sitting or sleeping directly on tatami mats without using chairs and beds."
"Thanks."
She strutted towards the wooden structure, careful not to sink into the sand. Miss Ru followed behind her and soon reached the house.
It was elevated from the ground and the exterior was made of concrete as well as clay. The colour matched with that of the sunset and the ocean.
She stepped onto the staircases and climbed onto the veranda, leaving her slippers on the stepping stone.
The dutch gable roof as made from brown coloured shingles. The clay walls were coloured sunset red and so were waxed paper doors.
She entered the first room nearest to her and was met with the sight of a young girl laying to a tatami mat, half naked, asleep and covered with a pile of clothes. Another girl was walking around and picking up the clothes.
She turned and smiled. Both girls looked to only be around the age of six. The girl who was pickng up the clothes waved and kicked the sleeping one.
"Oww." She sat up. "Big sister, what was that for?"
"We have guests." She smiled.
"Miss Xiang, if there is anything you need, I'll be in the next room." Miss Ru disappeared from the room.
"I'm Jia-Hui Cheng." The sleepy girl said. She had short black hair and brown eyes just like the other girl.
"And I'm Jia-Xue." The other addressed and bowed. "We are twin sisters, only that I am older than her."
"I am Mei-Ling Xiang." She bowed "And I'm your new roommate."
