My mouth drops in horror as I see the raging inferno a foot from where I stand.
Max and I begin to cough violently as the wind blows the black smoke in our direction. Smoke slowly starts to replace oxygen as I shut my eyes, trying not to let the smoke sting my eyes.
Trying to use my hands to cover my face from it all is pointless. Tears start to pool in my eyes. It does little to help with the burning sensation. I turn around and look at the sky. The black smoke covers the beautiful orange, pink sky.
I take a giant step backward and put my hands up as I feel the heat under my feet.
Suddenly, a gun is on my backside! A huge lump forms in my throat at the thought of having to cross that steel bridge.
What if it falls with us on it?!
I turn and look at Max in shock! He shares the same sentiment as I do. However, there is more determination on his face than anything else. I hesitate but walk up the steps.
