I woke up to an unfamiliar looking ceiling.
It looked like it was straight from Victorian England. I pushed myself to wake up. This body felt.. foreign.
It was smaller.. much younger.
My body was way lighter than before.. and each of my senses seemed to be much clearer.
I finally got out of bed.. it wasn't my room. As I went to the nearby mirror to look at myself. I realised.. it definitely wasn't me.
Wait.. what? It vaguely resembles me but it was also different.. as if someone had taken my body and turned the charm up a few notches.
"Where am I?" I asked myself.
I heard the door of the room opening as an old man entered the room. "Are you okay?" The old man asked with concern.
"..." I was confused. I didn't recognise this man at all.
I was just heading home from work and suddenly now I am who knows where..
"I.. don't know." I answered honestly.
"How are you feeling?" He asked again.
"I.. don't know." I replied again.
At this point he seemed really worried.
"I don't remember anything." I honestly replied. I didn't get any memories from this new body and didn't have any clue as to where I was.
I rationalised that telling the truth was the best choice.
"Did you lose your memory? Eric? Do you really not remember anything" The old man asked.
I nodded. ".. Wait, I'll get a doctor."

I breathed a huge sigh as I realised how big of a bomb had been avoided.
"Who knew I was in the Harry Potter universe?" I told myself.
I had read enough fabrics to know where this was going.. and if they had brought a person with mastery over kind arts I would have been exposed.
Thankfully, he seemed to find my memories to be empty. "His mind lacks any memories, It seems they won't return.." I remembered him saying.
I looked out the window taking a breath of fresh air. 'Was he just incompetent? But after listening to my family history that seemed highly unlikely.'
So, my full name's Eric Laurence. A pure blood family that moved from Italy two generations ago.
My family was pretty rich. It was also very influential even though it lacked a stable background in England.
The only problem? I am the only one alive.
The Laurence were opposed to the Dark lord so they were killed. Leaving only me as the survivor.
I also realised a few key differences from the world of Harry Potter I knew.
The most important one was that Voldemort didn't die when he was supposed to.
I was told he was killed by Dumbledore, not Harry Potter like the original.
Also, The magic of this world is much more powerful than it was described in the series. Basically magic is much heavily weaponized.
The war ended just three days ago. The day I woke up from my month long coma, from that incident.
"So.. what am I supposed to do?" I asked no one in particular.
I had taken over the body of someone else. I wasn't too guilty about it. I had a guilty conscience but the boy was probably supposed to die anyway.
"Well, magic exists in this world. Might as well do better than everyone else." I told myself as I opened the textbook about the fundamentals of magic.
I was going to Hogwarts next month and I wanted to be the absolute best.
This world is much more dangerous than the one I know.. but.. I'll be damned if I don't do the one thing that I was good at.
Being the best student, by putting the least amount of effort. 'What's the point of talent if you can't show off?'

I walked through the crowded train station. "It's just like the movies." I whispered to myself.
I looked around for any familiar face but was not surprised to find no one.
Slowly walking through the station. The old man next to me, who I now recognise as my guardian, had personally come to send me off.
'Lan Stewart.' I thought of his name. It seems like he cares deeply about Eric.
As we passed through the pillar at 9 ¼, I turned to him. "Thank you." I bowed.
The man was surprised. I was known to be arrogant.. just like my previous life. Someone who wouldn't yield no matter what.
But.. well as you grow up you realise that pride is childish most of the times.. and stops you from appreciating the little things in life.
"Ye- yes." He just said. I took my trunk and waved at him.
He waved back though I could see his eyes which had started to moisten.
"Bye. See you soon." I said as I entered the train.
=== Scene Break ===
The train was mostly empty. I was ahead of schedule. I chose a random compartment and decided to sit there.
I simply opened my book about history. Since it was the subject I was the weakest at… after language of course but that didn't exist in Hogwarts.
"..." After a while the door to my compartment opened.
There were two people. "Can we sit here? The other compartments are mostly packed." One girl explained.
"Sure." I replied curtly.
"Nice to meet you, I am Tracey Davis and this is Daphne Greengrass."
"Eric Laurence, pleasure to meet you." I answered.
The two sat opposite to me as a peaceful silence descended on the train. Thankfully both of them were rather quiet.
The train started moving. 'Finally' I thought.
As I looked out of the window to see the beautiful sites that followed.
A knock was heard from the door. "Yes?" Daphne answered.
She opened the door to the compartment. "Have you seen a frog? My friend lost one."
Ah, no wonder she felt familiar. I am pretty sure she was Hermione.
"No." I curtly replied. As Daphne just shook her head and Tracey said, "Don't you know it is impolite to not introduce yourself first?"
"Oh. Okay then, my name's Hermione Granger." She said.
After that awkward interaction, she left and the journey proceeded as usual.
