The success of Cerebro brought a wave of relief to both worlds. Lorna and the others from the old world had been on edge, unsure if Max and Esme had safely made the journey, but now they could finally exhale knowing that everything had gone well.
Learning about the situation in the new world added to their sense of relief. Knowing that they were getting ready to settle down in Alaska, discovering the presence of mutants in this new world, and even finding Mystique Raven as a child—all of it felt like a thrilling adventure.
Max removed the Cerebro and shared Esme's message. Turning to Rogue, he said, "Get ready. Max mentioned that he'll be opening the multiverse door in a few days to bring you over."
Everyone's gaze shifted to Rogue instinctively. Rogue herself was taken aback by the idea that Max would choose to bring her along first.
"It's too risky for you to stay here. The Sentinels will surely be after you to continue their research. Plus, we need help with construction over there, and Max seems to think you're the right person to look after Mystique Raven," Max explained.
"Uh-huh," Rogue murmured, at a loss for words.
In her school days, Rogue had crossed paths with Magneto numerous times, so she wasn't exactly caught off guard by Mystique's presence in the New World.
Back in the old world, they were gearing up to welcome Max's arrival, while in the new reality, Max had already returned, bringing with him the samurai armor, fine-tuning their preparations, and perfecting the gateway between worlds.
A couple of days later, Max tasked Esme with reaching out to the old world to initiate the opening of the multiverse portal.
Since traveling back and forth would be time-consuming, Max opted not to make the trip personally this time, preferring instead for them to get ready while he operated the portal from afar. The portal's location was close to Lorna and their new safe house in the old world, albeit with a slight positioning hiccup.
Thankfully, they quickly located the gateway and spotted the samurai armor lying nearby.
Without much time to ponder, Rogue grabbed the gold and silver jewelry they had prepared, donned the samurai armor, and charged straight into the gateway.
Maintaining the portal required considerable energy. If Max hadn't significantly increased his physical stamina since their last encounter, there was a risk that the armor would be left behind, and the portal would close.
"Whoa."
The samurai armor burst out of the other side of the portal just as it closed, vanishing into thin air without causing any explosion.
"Damn it!"
The armor crashed heavily onto the ground, with Max collapsing beside it. Little Raven rushed to support Max, while Esme approached and removed the silver samurai helmet.
Coughing violently, Rogue managed to speak, "I'm okay, but… did we make it?"
"Absolutely," Esme replied with a reassuring smile.
After spending some time inside the samurai armor, the Rogue emerged, handing the items brought back to Esme before turning attention to Max and the little Raven by his side.
"Is this the new world?" The Rogue's eyes sparkled with curiosity as they took in the expansive surroundings.
"Raven, why don't you show her around and help her get familiar with the environment?" Max suggested, directing his words to Raven.
Observing Raven leading the Rogue away, Max instructed Esme to send replies through the Cerebro to avoid causing unnecessary concern and established a nightly communication rule to ensure timely updates.
Later that night, after settling in, Max retired to his room to rest. With the successful operation of the Cerebro, enabling the transportation of individuals, the next step was to acquire more land to expand and rebuild the area to create new homes.
*Knock, knock!*
Max called out, granting entry as the Rogue pushed open the door. Clad in white pajamas, a faint glow emanated from the neck ring around her throat, catching Max's attention before he gestured for her to take a seat.
As the Rogue settled in, Max caught a whiff of a delicate fragrance surrounding her, stirring a subtle reaction within him.
"Trouble sleeping in a new place?" Max inquired.
The Rogue nodded, a mixture of confirmation and hesitation evident in her expression. "Partly. Sonia and Lorna spoke to me before I came here. They understand the challenges you face in establishing a new home for us, and they can't continue in the old world. They sent me to you."
Max's lips formed a smile. "And why did you say yes?"
