Fanny had once heard that "the Earth would not stop spinning just because of one person." But he felt that Ancient One just said the Earth might just stop spinning because of him.
Ancient One's evaluation made him surprised and proud at the same time. Yes, proud. Not everyone was willing to be ordinary. He could choose to be ordinary, but he did not want to be limited by the ordinary.
"I think I can make this world better!" Fanny confronted Ancient One's eyes. "As you said, not one person can control the future, but everyone can choose their own future."
He continued, "I believe that whatever reason you have to stop me from using my ability, it was for the sake of this world. So if it was really harming the world, I would not mind giving up this ability for the time being."
Fanny didn't know why Ancient One wanted him to stop using 'Ars Magna,' but he cared little about the reason. The ability wasn't very strong right now anyway, and it wouldn't be impossible for him to obtain an even stronger ability than 'Ars Magna' in the future through the extraction system. He should take care of the present right now and think about it later.
Ancient One didn't respond to Fanny's determined words. Instead, she looked straight into his eyes and began explaining,
"Your magic alters the very rules of reality. It is an invasive force in our reality; thus, it is our duty as the Masters of Mystic Arts to defend against it. Your magic will forever be suppressed as long as the three Sanctum stands on this Earth."
Fanny finally understood why his proficiency with 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' advanced far quicker than 'Ars Magna.' It wasn't because he had an innate talent for cooking, but because the world itself was suppressing him!
"So, I can exert my full strength if I'm not on Earth?" Fanny suddenly asked, curious.
Ancient One shook her head. "Of course not, but without any other obstacles, your magic will be much easier to use. Still, if some other powerful forces blocked you, your magic might be more difficult to use than on Earth."
Ancient One hesitated for a moment. "That is unless you possess the power and will to push through those obstacles!"
As expected, he still had to rely on himself!
Ancient One's words made Fanny realize once again how weak he was.
"Actually, I have been very curious. What this magic is called?" Perhaps because she had said everything she deemed important, Ancient One regained her indifferent attitude and asked curiously.
"Ars Magna. When I was born, I suddenly learned a kind of magic that could change reality according to my thoughts." Since Ancient One trusted him so much, Fanny did not hide anything about Ars Magna.
"What extraordinary power!" Ancient One praised. There was no envy or fear in her eyes, only a trace of curiosity and respect for knowledge.
"Master Ancient One, I..."
Ancient One interrupted, "The magic of Kamar-Taj is actually not very compatible with you. If you insist on learning it, you will have to bear the responsibility of a Master of Mystic Arts. Are you sure you want to join?"
The magic of Kamar-Taj didn't carry any inherent responsibilities. It was even taught freely to outsiders that needed its help.
Could Fanny be considered someone who needed its help? He personally thought so, but Ancient One clearly disagreed. That's why she asked Fanny to join the Sanctum and their mission to protect the Earth.
Fortunately, Fanny had no problem with this responsibility. Presently, the greatest threat against the Sanctum he knew of was Dormammu, who was naturally hostile to all Earth inhabitants. He agreed without a second thought, "I am certain."
The relief from his successful enrollment as Ancient One's apprentice made Fanny's character slip through.
"Master, I came in a hurry and did not bring any gifts. Would you like to eat a special fried chicken roll?"
Fanny casually summoned a Sumire Karaage Rolls and handed it over with a smile. They would spend a long time together in the future, so it would be impossible to hide this ability. Ancient One probably knew about it already anyway.
"What a magical ability." Sure enough, Ancient One was not surprised. She simply praised out of courtesy and bit into the fried chicken. An intoxicated expression filled her face, and she subconsciously exclaimed, "It's really delicious!"
Kamar-Taj was a beautiful place, and the night emphasized its serene and peaceful atmosphere. Ancient One brought Fanny around for a simple tour and introduced him to the mages on the way.
He could be technically considered a member of the Sanctum by now, although he had not learned any magic.
Fanny had to bid farewell a while later when it was getting late. He planned to tell his family before properly beginning his study in Kamar-Taj. He hesitated for a moment before leaving and asked one last question,
"Master, aren't you curious about why I know you?"
Ancient One smiled with mysterious understanding in her eyes. "Everyone has secrets, don't they?"
"And as someone who usually knows too much, exploring unknown things is quite interesting!"
Fanny did not quite understand the meaning of this sentence. Did Ancient One feel a heightened sense of curiosity due to her vast knowledge that prevented her from finding things that she couldn't understand?
With that complicated feeling, Fanny left Kamar-Taj and returned to the New York Sanctum.
The dark night sky turned into bright daylight. Fanny racked his brain on the way home, thinking about how to convince his family to let him leave for Kamar-Taj next time.
Time always passed quietly, and it was evening in the blink of an eye in New York.
Fanny said to his family after dinner that he wanted to announce something.
The three family members looked at him curiously, waiting for him to speak. He thought for a moment and began talking, "I recently wanted to go travel and see the world. I will return when school starts. Is that okay?"
"Why so suddenly?"
"Where are you going?"
"I'll go with you!"
He obtained very different reactions. His mother did not want him to leave, while his father asked where the destination was. Skye simply wanted to follow along.
"I want to go sightsee in the Himalayas."
Kamar-Taj was in the Himalayas, so it was not a lie to his parents. He decided to talk to Skye later.
Fanny had been a smart and obedient child that rarely wanted things for himself, so while his mother was very reluctant, she finally agreed to his proposal. His father told him to travel safely and asked when he would leave.
They were rather surprised to hear that he would leave in the next few days. Skye realized there was something more to this and kept to herself.
After their parents went to rest, Fanny went to Skye's room to explain about Kamar-Taj.
