“We should think about telling Mother about Joe?”

“Yeah.”

It was amazing how in sync our thoughts could be.

“How do you think she’ll react to being a grandma?”

I shook my head, startled at how rapidly events were moving along.

“What? She won’t go for it?”

“Mark, you only found out about this boy yesterday.”

“Yeah, so?”

“Most men wouldn’t be able to accept such a life-altering experience so quickly.”

“I’m not most men.”

“I’m aware of that.” I smiled at him and ran a palm over his cheek. “I still don’t understand—”

“Quinn, I can be a stubborn son of a bitch, but when I make my mind up, it stays made up.”

“I’m aware of that, too.”

“If you add ‘but,’ I’m gonna knock you on your ass. Look.” He rubbed a hand over his hair. “What happened when I brought you back from Paris after Prinzip put the snatch on you?”
