Kapitel 27: Chapter 27

“Shut up, Jan,” Becca snapped. January curled her lip and returned to the house, not even waiting to hear what happened. Well, that would have to wait.

Babe pulled her boy closer to her side. He was shivering, and she wanted to spit. She really didn’t need all this drama. “The paramedics said that’s where they were taking him. He was shot too. I don’t know how bad—I didn’t see what happened…”

“We’ll go to the hospital. Miz Babe, will you and Denny be all right here?”

“We’ll be fine, but make sure you have your house keys. I’m buttoning this place up tight.”

She and Denny waited at home while everyone rushed to St. Mark’s. As it turned out, Mr. Jackson hadn’t made it. He was dead on arrival.

And of course January blamed the whole incident on Babe.

Babe felt even guiltier, because in this instance, January was right—Mopp was in the hospital and Mr. Jackson was in the morgue because they’d stood between Babe and Denny and the man who wanted them. Or who wanted Denny.
