78.57% Love Me, Fair Empress / Chapter 11: Diseases Can Kill

Kapitel 11: Diseases Can Kill

It was twelve years ago when the late Empress Lorelei died after an epidemic spread vastly across Zemira. The disease killed thousands of Zemira's citizens, 0.5% of the population perished with this disease and Lorelei was one of them.

This disease occurred from the west of Zemira from the village of Lumbarton on the very cottage of herbal remedy production.

It was from an unusual herb that was expected to be a remedy for various diseases that occurred during that time. It scarcely ratified the query to be prohibited as a remedy but it was to an unknown measure why it had already been exported and was distributed to many corners of Zemira.

Because of the saying that it can cure numerous diseases, Lorelei was intrigued to take the medicine for the reason of her languishing immunity. After all, the late Empress was susceptible to many diseases because of the weakness of her impunity. Subsequently, those who were laid in close contact with the medical remedy suffered tremendous symptoms.

0.2% of the people infected by the disease which soon was recognized as a virus were aristocrats of Zemira. Just as how fast the wind blew was the same as the increase in the deaths of Zemira's people.

The symptoms showed after two hours of intake of the aforementioned herb. This was specified deadly since the first casualty died after a span of six hours after his intake. Three days after the report of the vast and rapid expansion of the disease, the Empress Lorelei was soon proven vulnerable.

The Imperial Constitutions gave rise to the verdict to find the solution for the crisis Zemira was facing.

As soon as it was proved that the epidemic was a caused intention, the late Emperor sought for the culprit, but before he could verdict the perpetrators to establish a cure, Lorelei breathed her last breath.

It was far too late, yet the cure was delivered across the nation which saved many lives but Lorelei's and several patients who caught the disease during the early stages of the spread.

Because of the Emperor's fit of rage, the culprits were hanged, their bodies were burned, and families were sold to an illicit bunch of traveling merchants.

Who knows what those merchants did to them? But for Hera's father, he wished them to suffer tremendously.

To commence such a banquet with nobles who ridicule and criticize the former Empress for withering because of a disease was a bother to Hera.

Certainly, she loathed them, it was only reasonable she faced them not. After all, she holds the constitutions by their neck, and the Prime Minister was led by kisses.

It was as if a flower had no right to wilt in winter even if they were susceptible to the cold just like what they try to mean in the case of Lorelei's death.

Hera's memory marveled with her hatred that weighed several hundred stones on her back, she had to not just take revenge on Gavryll but on everyone who tarnished her name and Lorelei's as well.

"They knew not how well my mother had loved this nation since when she arrived. Even if she was an immigrant of this nation, she never ceased to pause there but loved it entirely even if this nation only knew to disdain her with such derision..." she angrily spoke.

Her fingers twisted, it tightly clasped on the sheets as tears with the fill of resentment and rage settled on the shore of her eyes.

Her eyes sunk with melancholy and she was crimson with hatred. But as she thought, maybe she could take this opportunity to show them who she really was. Maybe to this extent, within the banquet, she can find a way to discipline them and show them who they should show reverence for.

But the form of reverence show no positivity, she wanted them to show her reverence in a way opposite to that.

She should be revered with fear.

They should be held in awe by the terror she brings.

They should realize and acknowledge the heavy might of the Imperial throne of Zemira.

If ever she still refers to what transpired three years ago when she was young, or maybe even when she was not formed in her mother's womb, the ministers and the people of Zemira already had done countless of disdain to her mother and her.

After all this time, even if more than a decade had already surged in history, Zemira never changed. Their minds have never changed, they were still prejudiced against them.

Hera would want to sweep the filth that stained Zemira, this should not be continued until years to come for a plausibility will arise and the future generation of the Imperial throne. Hera would not be able to bear it if this occur for the next generations, just because Zemira bore contempt for her mother who did nothing wrong to them.

This was all justified.

"Father, forgive me, but you are wrong. We may not be able to change their minds but we can change their souls," she said to herself as if she was discussing with the former Emperor in the back of her head.

"If only you did what was favorable and nurtured my mother from them, she would not have to struggle arduously fitting in whilst they only counterfeited their devotion for her for the privileges the Imperial throne held. My mother would not have to compel herself to live through each day in a place filled with people who only knew how to despise her for someone who knew not what she truly was."

Maybe the stars did not align to be favored of her.

Indeed she was correct if only he would have found an earlier cure for this, a cure for Zemira's illness — hypocrisy.

Just like the disease twelve years ago, it should have died down with it, it should have been cured with it but instead, the congregation yearned for more. They were never satisfied with the Empress's death because when it had only just started, a cure was not suggested to the crowd.

Hypocrisy only prevailed to spread faster than the disease ever did, it may have even exceeded the vast spread of the aforementioned disease.

The number of those unaffected by this hypocrisy prevailed to be counted with several fingers one had.

That was how life had already been cruel to Lorelei and Hera...

"...and as the Empress, my purpose is to exterminate such illness..." Hera rigidly mentioned.

Her brows met, her forehead creased whilst austerity sketched the anatomy of her face.
