“She has run away, Your Excellency.” Miguel stood still. He’d known Juan Carlos would erupt when he brought the message, but he did the best he could to stand against the outburst.
“Didn’t they go after her?” Juan Carlos thundered. “Who do we have up there, a bunch of grandmothers? I thought we had soldiers there!”
“Yes, El Presidente.” Miguel tried to damper the president’s fury. “But they could not find her. General Talavado has requested more troops to help with the search.”
“Troops?!” A new explosion. “I can’t send troops into the mountains for one woman!”
He paced across the room and back. This woman was becoming a thorn in his side. He was starting to rethink this whole thing. She wasn’t worth it.
“El Presidente, may I suggest?”
“What?!” he growled, stopping sharply and looking up.
