Kapitel 99: Butterfly Effect
Anastasio was busy making arrangements for his business trip, which for the first time he was not looking forward to, it was a sudden invitation from the investors' guild. The same ones who had backed up the Magnolia corporation, and supported Nathenel in his project at the factory of fireworks overnight, the entire guild had rolled out, and now all out of the blue they have invited Anastasio de Faunoa, showing deep interest in his business. The world of business like politics has no permanent friends or enemies but only permanent interest that is profit. That was no exception for Anastasio too, and the investors' guild were an important nexus in the commercial realm of the country. It was for this very reason Anastasio accepted their invitation even if it was at a very short notice. He had no interest in antagonizing them, but he had no interest in accepting their offer. He truly was a 'Tyrant Trader', but he never opted for an easy way, or lowered his standards for that matter. He loved accepting challenges and winning competitions. This offer was neither challenging nor was there any competition. These were just a bunch of rats, who were trying to get on board after abandoning a sinking ship.
"Those can't be trusted Eddie, they are leaving the Magnolia group today for an accident, they can dump us tomorrow for the same reasons." At the same time something told Anastasio that things were happening too quickly, as if they were already decided.
The day was yet to start, the mansion was in a lul. Everyone was doing their job, but everything seemed dull and bleak. The staffs seemed to be in sullen temper, they weren't smiling, or chatting, even their greetings went back to simple professional ones.
Evelyn Betrice is indeed a sunflower whose presence brightens up everything and everyone. Her absence was evident, but wasn't his life always this grey? Anastasio thought, it was regimental and revolving about work, but once she came in things weren't the same ever.
"I want to bring you back into my arms Eve, soon...really soon..." Anastasio said out loud, he hadn't noticed when Edmon appeared at his study, who cleared his throat to make his presence felt, "Have you prepared everything you needed?" Anastasio enquired, "And why does it look like all the blood has drained out of your face?"
Wiping the beads of sweat even in the cold weather Edmon who apparently looked like someone who had seen a ghost said, "Sio... That is Miss Clemen has come and she has a company..."
It took sometime for Anastasio to belive what he heard, "Miss Foea Clemen?"
Edmon nodded and noticed that the love sick young man who was sighing in the room a moment back has suddenly been replaced by the cold Tyrant.
'Damn you Sio, how can you switch like that?' Edmon cursed his friend, Foea, that woman always made him nervous.
"And is the company you mentioned, it's Miss Palwalker. Right?" He asked with a smirk. "So this is happening earlier than I had expected.Its only surprising that Miss Clemen has joined in too."
Edmon was thwarted at that comment, he was the one who had met Miss Palwalker the previous day, and even then in the wildest of his dreams he had never thought that Nathenel de Magnolia's fiancée come at the Faunoa Mansion. And this Devil claims that he had expected this to happen.
Before leaving for the unprecedented meeting
The previous day :
"Miss Miss open up. There's someone who wants to meet you. Butler says he is an important person." Susan dressed hurriedly with Poly's help, and went down, Lady Magnolia was sitting right there shedding tears which were obviously not real even a child could point out.
"I knew my Sio isn't like that, he does care for his brother..."
"Miss Palwalker" the person who greeted her was none other than the secretary of the CEO of Magnolia himself.
"Mr.Decker" Susan had a pale smile on her face, she had seen him in several occasions with Mr. Faunoa.
Edmon didn't expect her to know his name. In front of him was a lean woman with a pretty face, who looked stressed, Susan Palwalker was called the 'Ivory beauty or the Ivory nun' of high society. None of those names could be denied she had the placid and calm aura of a nun, and a smile that masked every emotion.
"You must be tired Lady Magnolia. Rest well ma'am I will just have a few words at Miss Palwalker and leave." Edmon was polite but stern, even Rosalie couldn't flex much in front of him, darting an evil gaze at Susan she left right away.
Susan tried to guess multiple reasons for this sudden audience of the Secretary of CEO of the Faunoa corporation, and narrowed down to only one, Evelyn.
"I apologize to visit you all so suddenly,amidst such a crisis Miss Palwalker. But, Miss Betrice" he paused a bit after letting out her name, to observe the change of expression.
What he saw surprised him, instead of those masked eyes were a pair of concerned eyes, "Evelyn? What about her is she alright? I tried to reach her and even tried calling up at the mansion. Is she alright."
Edmon wad quick to catch that she was oblivious of things happening, and with Rosalie's attitude towards her it wasn't difficult to understand that she wasn't Lady Magnolia's pet, "Calm down Miss Palwalker" Edmon narrated everything except for Evan's Betrice's rumour. Susan appalled expression said that she was oblivious.
'Exactly where has she be living? Does she remained locked up here?' Edmon couldn't help but think.
"I am so sorry" Susan broke down into genuine tears "It was too careless of me to tell those things to Evelyn without thinking. She almost..." Susan couldn't continue, she was really useless. "Please if there's any way I can meet her..." Evelyn is her only friend.
"Miss Palwalker, Mr Faunoa has taken care of things and Miss Betrice is right now living with her in-laws in Fenik. So it will be difficult to..."
Susan was accustomed to the nobility's way of talking, "I do understand that Mr. Faunoa doesn't want me to contact her anymore. Especially after she was put to such a dangerous situation. And I am also Nathenel's fiancée, I... I... should have thought." She collected herself once again, what did she expect? Her cursed life would change overnight? But there was no time to cry, if she had to survive she had to be useful. She looked at Edmon desperately, "Mr.Decker, I know it's not my place to ask. Would you tell me how things are place outside right now? Especially... Nathenel.Please tell me I need to know." Edmon wasn't expecting this. But for Susan it was her opportunity to know some inside facts and ahe wouldn't let go of it no matter what. Edmon couldn't decline her desperate request, although he couldn't understand why.
Before leaving he had felt relieved that Evelyn had indeed made a good friend, "Miss Palwalker, as far as I my know Mr. Faunoa, he is madly in love with Miss Betrice, though he doesn't realise that, and that makes him behave obsessively.
Rest assured, I don't think you would lose your friend. She has a mind of her own. She is a keeper." Edmon didn't know why was he blabbering such things to this woman. Was her appearance really had aura of a nun?
From that point Susan started thinking a way out of this situation, which looked like a labyrinth to her.
Even for someone like Susan for whom business classes were nothing short of nightmares, but they were a necessary evil for her to keep living in the family, this situation was like a butterfly effect. It perhaps took a sprinkler which started the fire and now the position of the House of Magnolia was at stake. Susan was an honest person, Nathenel needed to be put back to his position, because that was the only way she could survive. But, she also didn't wish to see him fail, the only person who had shown some sort of kindness to her. Even though they were a contractual couple, but they still were a couple.
"This issue couldn't be resolved through business right now."
After receiving a briefing from Edmon she searched through some local news tabloids and blogs, and that gave out the local insights related to fire and that's when the rumour about Evans Betrice being an arsonist caught her eye.
Susan's heart went out for Evelyn, she wished she could just give her a hug and be with her right now. It was obvious that Mr.Decker had deliberately omitted this part, it was a baseless rumour and it somewhat was maligning the House of faunoa too.
Susan couldn't help but wonder how much Anastasio loved Evelyn. This was an arranged marriage, their engagement had been merely announced, any other man of such stature would have called it off, that's how cruel the world of the aristocrats were. But, on the contrary he was going to all lengths to protect her.
"I haven't come this far, just to go back to that purgatory. I will do anything."
Susan's conditions had taught her one thing that's resilience under every circumstance. In this entire incident there was no apparent connection between these two powerful houses who were family and yet sworn enemies. However, it affected both in different light.
Vouching on this one connection Susan decided to approach the House of Faunoa, because if anyone can help Nathenel de Magnolia right now it was Anastasio de Faunoa, because 'Blood is thicker than water.'
What Susan didn't know was that she would be making a deal with the Devil himself. So. while she was busy strategising for a win-win proposition for both, Anastasio, who already recieved a detailed report from Edmon, was already waiting for her to approach the House.
