OZPIN POV
He and Glynda sat side by side and stared at the best Hunter under their employment.
"I know."
Jaune blinked "You do?"
He shrugged "Not 100%. But you and your… friends haven't exactly been subtle about showing your powers. I mean… Mistral called you to deal with their largest bandit gang. One that had over 1000 aura users. And you and your team went and dismantled that gang within a few days. It was pretty evident to me."
"How are you being so calm about this Ozpin?" Glynda asked and he could see the smoldering anger in her eyes.
She had lost part of her extended family and quite a few of her students and colleagues on the Day of the Reckoning so her anger was justified. But really, it has been a year and a few months since that day.
He couldn't really blame these young men and women when they finally did what he had not been able to do in all his lives…
"What happened is not something that can be blamed on them Glynda." He said.
"But… all those people who died..."
"I regret their death as much as anyone Glynda. But if I have to make a choice between saving those people and disposing of Salem once and for all, then I would sacrifice those people every single time."
…He hasn't seen Glynda this angry in a long time.
The wall to his office exploded and Glynda got up from her chair before she walked out.
A moment later, the door opened and his guards poured in.
"It's alright." He said with a wave of his hand "Just Glynda and her temper tantrum."
Some of his guards held back a chuckle and the leader of his guards gave his guests a suspicious glance before leaving his office, the door closing behind them.
He tapped his table for a few moments before he looked at Jaune.
"I believe that you were the one who took the Relic of Creation from under Ironwood's nose."
"I'll neither accept nor deny any responsibility for the theft of any such artifact." Jaune replied.
Which meant that Jaune had no intention of returning the Relic to him.
At this point, Jaune probably had the Relic of Knowledge and Relic of Destruction as well.
If Jaune got his hands on the Relic of Choice... that would summon the Brother gods.
He shuddered as he thought of what the Brother gods would do if they saw humanity in such dire straits.
Yes. They'll probably take one look at humanity and then destroy Remnant without a second thought.
But, Jaune had made no attempt to get to the Relic of Choice, which meant that Jaune knows what gathering those four relics would do and was smart enough to not think about challenging the gods.
A good thing as strength and arrogance usually go hand in hand.
"And what happened to Salem?" He asked. Because that was what he was most curious about. "Did you manage to kill her?"
Jaune shook his head "She's still alive. But… neither she nor her Grimm will bother Humanity ever again. As long as humanity doesn't try to go to the Land of Darkness that is."
That doesn't answer his question. But he could see that Jaune wasn't willing to answer any more of his questions.
"Keeping the peace will become harder without you and your group." He said.
And that was the truth of it.
Jaune and his… female friends alone had destroyed over 60% of the bandits and rebels in the past year. If they had not been present during that time, then stabilizing the Kingdom of Vale would have taken far longer than it did.
"Perhaps. But it's undoubtedly far easier than dealing with Salem, is it not?" Jaune asked.
He gave a noncommittal shrug.
"Is she… gone for good? Or would I see the Grimm return after a few decades?" He asked.
"They won't return." Jaune said.
And while he didn't fully trust those words, it was good enough for him at the moment.
Hmm… a world without Salem.
He felt, strangely aimless without her.
Stopping her from destroying the world by calling the brother gods had been his goal for so long that without her… he didn't know what else he'll do.
He'll probably rule for a decade or two before retiring and living the rest of his days in peace in an old shack somewhere.
It was probably a good thing that Jaune took the Relics with him.
He was tired of all the responsibilities on his shoulders. Having someone else carry that burden for him was… nice.
"So you're going to another world then?" He asked
Jaune nodded "Yes. This is a goodbye and a resignation from my duty as a Hunter."
"Where do you plan to go next?" And how would you even go to the next world?
He had lived a long life and he wasn't aware that there were other worlds to go to.
Though admittedly, it was a nice dream.
To go to another world and leave all his responsibilities behind. And have some adventure while you're at it.
"I don't know." Jaune said with a shrug "We'll just have to check and see which world we could go to."
He nodded. "Well… good luck in your travels then Jaune Arc." Because what else could he say.
Jaune nodded and inclined his head toward him "And good luck to you in ruling the Kingdom, your grace. We'll take our leave now."
He nodded and Jaune and his women got up from their chair before leaving his room.
He turned his chair around and looking at the map of Vale behind him, wondering if he should've asked the boy to take him along in his adventure.
No. The Kingdom still needed him.
He would do this one last duty to the world before he retires.
