Most average families only used between 2 to 3 silver coins a month. 1 gold coin was already worth 100 silver coins, so the normal remuneration for a dead soldier was already enough for a family to last for four years if they spent frugally. 

In the general's opinion,the increase to the pension was not only difficult to enact, it was also completely unnecessary.

Dante also realised the general's troubles and quickly spoke with a displeased look on his face.

"The compensation won't be coming out of your pockets. Just take it from my share of the bandit's loot and split it to the soldiers and their families. But when you hand the soldiers and their families the compensation, make it clear it was I, the Dragon son who paid for such compensation, not the city lords.

As soon as the general heard Dante's words, a sigh of relief quickly escaped his lips.

If Dante insisted that they pay the compensation, then there really would be nothing he could do.
