Kapitel 13: Chapter 13: Storage Ring

"Is someone actually living here? Let's go check it out. Maybe they know where we are, and hopefully they have some food. I'm starving," Elan suggested.

As soon as Elan mentioned food, his stomach growled loudly. He remembered Arion mentioning earlier that he had been singing for two days straight. That meant Elan had been unconscious and without food for two whole days. No wonder he felt so weak and hungry.

Arion agreed, "That sounds like a good idea. Let's go."

They slowly walked towards the hut. As they got closer, Elan noticed that the hut looked quite dirty, as if it hadn't been cleaned or maintained in a long time. The walls were covered in grime, and the thatched roof appeared to be falling apart. The whole place looked neglected and on the verge of collapsing.

When they reached the door, Elan paused and asked Arion, "Can you scan inside first? We don't know what might be in there."

Without hesitation, Arion began scanning the hut. However, he quickly realized that he couldn't scan the entire structure.

"I can't scan the entire hut, but from what I can sense, there are no living creatures inside," Arion replied.

Elan felt a bit more confident after hearing Arion's assessment. "Alright, that's good to know. Let's take a look inside then."

Hearing that there were no living creatures, Elan cautiously opened the door. As soon as he did, he was met with the sight of a skeleton sitting directly in front of him, facing the door. The sight was so sudden and shocking that Elan let out a loud scream and stumbled backward, falling to the ground in his haste.

"Arion, what the hell! Why didn't you tell me there was a skeleton inside?" Elan shouted, his voice a mix of fear and frustration.

"I didn't know there was a skeleton. My scan didn't reach far enough to detect it," Arion explained.

Elan sighed deeply, trying to calm himself. "You know, Arion, in my past life and even in this one, I've always been a patient person. But ever since I met you, that patience has been tested like never before."

Arion chuckled. "I guess I have that effect on you. But come on, you can handle a skeleton. Let's check the place out."

"Fine." Elan stood up and brushed the dirt off.

"Arion, is your ability passive or active?" Elan asked.

"It can be passive or active," Arion replied.

"Great, make it passive so I don't have to keep asking you to scan each object. Just tell me directly if you find something interesting," Elan suggested.

"No problem, I'll keep it in passive mode and alert you to anything noteworthy."

Elan walked back to the door, glancing again at the skeleton in a meditation pose. "This person actually died like this. I mean, how can you die in a meditation pose? This is so weird," Elan murmured. He cautiously approached the skeleton, half-expecting it to spring to life. As he got within five meters of the skeleton, Arion suddenly shouted, "It's a storage ring!"

Startled, Elan's head snapped back, his heart pounding. "My goodness, not so loud," he scolded.

Arion chuckled. "My bad, I got excited when I detected the storage ring."

"Storage ring? What is that?" Elan asked, intrigued.

"Take the storage ring off the skeleton's finger first, and I'll explain afterward," Arion instructed.

"Fine," Elan agreed, and he continued walking toward the skeleton.

When Elan reached the skeleton, he saw the ring on its right index finger. Summoning his courage, he reached out and carefully removed the ring, speaking softly to himself, "Sorry, but you won't be needing this ring anymore."

As he held the ring in his hand, he couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity. "Alright, Arion, I've got the ring. Now tell me, what exactly is a storage ring?"

Arion's voice took on a more informative tone. "A storage ring is a magical artifact that allows the wearer to store items in a pocket dimension. Think of it as a portable, infinitely expandable storage space. You can place objects inside the ring and retrieve them whenever you need."

Elan was shocked upon hearing this. "What? There are things like this in this world. How does that make any sense? I mean, that's physically impossible," he exclaimed.

"I didn't expect to find a storage ring here either. I thought things like this only happened in novels, TV shows, and movies," Arion replied, equally surprised.

Elan was curious about what Arion meant. "Novels, TV shows, and movies? What do you mean?"

Arion explained, "When we were on Earth, I absorbed all the data available on the internet. Among this vast amount of information, I learned about a genre of novels called Xianxia, Wuxia, and Xuanhuan. These are Chinese stories that revolve around martial arts, cultivation, magical artifacts, and more. The concept of a storage ring, like the one you have in your hand, is mentioned in these novels."

Upon hearing this, Elan didn't know whether to laugh or cry. 'Who would have thought that the Chinese knew about these storage rings that we could find here in another world and in another universe?' he thought, shaking his head in disbelief.

Despite the intriguing information, Elan still had his doubts. There was no concrete proof that this ring was exactly like the storage rings described in the novels Arion mentioned. "Alright, but how can I use this? What if it's just an ordinary ring?" Elan asked, his skepticism evident.

Arion responded confidently, "I am certain that the ring in your hand is a storage ring. The process to use it is quite specific, as described in the Chinese novels. First, you need to bind the ring to yourself by dropping a bit of your blood on it. This will make the ring recognize you as its owner."

"Once you've bound the ring to yourself, you need to use your spiritual sense. Focus your mind and will your spiritual sense into the ring. This will allow you to access the pocket dimension inside and see what's stored there. You can also use your spiritual sense to store and retrieve items."

"However, you don't have spiritual sense. But don't worry, I remember from one of the novels that if someone lacks a spiritual sense, there's another method. After binding the ring with your blood, you can touch the ring and focus your intent on accessing it. Think of it as mentally commanding the ring to open and close."

Elan nodded and began searching for a small, sharp stick. Once he found one, he picked it up without hesitation and pricked his finger just enough to draw blood. He then pressed his finger to the ring, allowing the blood to drip onto it.

As soon as the blood hit the ring, Elan noticed it being quickly absorbed, disappearing into the ring almost instantly. This sight made him excited, thinking that Arion might be right about the ring being a storage ring with many valuable items inside.

"Great! Don't put the ring on just yet. Do what I told you first," Arion instructed.

"Alright, let me concentrate first," Elan replied.

He closed his eyes and focused intently, trying to visualize the inside of the storage ring. Minutes passed, but he saw nothing and felt no connection.

'Arion said earlier, focus your intent? I was focusing my mind, but nothing happened. Does intent mean something different?'Elan wondered.

Elan thought about the meaning of intent. He realized that intent wasn't just about concentrating—it was about having a clear and strong desire or purpose. It was more than just focusing; it was about having a determined will to achieve something.

With this new understanding, Elan decided to try again. He touched the ring and closed his eyes. This time, instead of merely concentrating, he willed with all his might to see inside the ring. He imagined a door opening to reveal the storage space, pouring all his desire and determination into that vision.

Slowly, he began to feel a connection forming. But just as quickly, the connection was severed.

As the connection broke, Elan collapsed onto the hut's floor, panting heavily. He felt an overwhelming fatigue wash over him, and his face grew pale. "What is happening? Why am I suddenly so exhausted?" he wondered aloud.

Arion quickly responded, "You probably exhausted your energy because you focused all of it on opening the storage ring. Considering you haven't eaten for two days, it's better to rest for a bit and then look for some food outside. There might be some fruits or something edible nearby."

"That makes sense. I didn't expect that just opening the storage ring would drain my energy so much," Elan said, nodding weakly.

He closed his eyes, trying to rest and gather some strength. 'I need to rest and regain some energy before I can go out and look for food,' he thought.
