Kapitel 5: Camp

Sigma didn't let that faze him, and he just ran to the outside of the house while nocking another arrow.

"If it can't be killed like this, then can't it be defeated, or do I need to hit some other part of its body?" Sigma thought while turning around and seeing skeletons coming from all the houses nearby. "I guess I won't have time to wonder about the answer…"

Sigma turned again and began to run toward the exit of the village. The skeletons did the same, though, and despite their lack of muscles and flesh, they were quite fast.

Sigma was a bit faster, but he had a limit to his stamina, and it was decreasing with every passing moment since he was using Dash.

All of a sudden, one of the skeletons jumped with its arms open and ready to grab Sigma. He rolled to the side and avoided the attack, but instead of getting away, he nocked an arrow to attack.

Sigma looked at all the bones of the enemy's body, and then his eyes stopped on the backbone of the creature. Sigma took some extra time to aim, and then he fired. The body of the creature split into many parts according to the number of bones and then stopped moving.

[You got 03 EXP.]

"Jackpot," Sigma muttered and began to run again.

While Sigma found its weak point, its number was too high for him. So, he had to gain distance and then fire. He did that several times until they slowed down and then sank to the ground once they left the village.

"Hmm… these things aren't ordinary skeletons?" Sigma furrowed his eyebrows with his next arrow ready to be shot.

Sigma returned to the village, but the bones were no longer where he destroyed them. It felt obvious that the skeletons weren't ordinary creatures in that world, even more so when they only moved when Sigma tried to take something from one of the houses.

"They might show up if I try that again, and this time their encirclement will be perfect…" Sigma thought and then checked his arrows. "They had forty of them left while I have fifteen arrows. Insisting on this will be a bad idea."

Sigma had already wasted too many hours following the wrong direction. Insisting on that fight would be even more foolish. So, he turned around and left the village.

Sigma increased his pace while wondering if he could make up for the lost time like that. He had used all of the good sticks he found along the way, so giving time for enemies to attack him would only make him waste more arrows.

"A cursed village in which the spirits of the inhabitants that were killed in their sleep haunt those who invade their homes and a dark forest where hungry wolves are itching to eat anything…" Sigma thought. "So far, I only found places that were all sorts of bad news."

None of those places looked familiar, so that only added to the confusion that Sigma felt. While he could handle the wolves and the skeletons, he didn't feel like he had seen them either.

In any case, while he got a bit tired, Sigma reached the starting point when he left that forest after one hour. Without wasting time, he grabbed some other sticks and began to walk in the opposite direction.

After another hour, Sigma leveled up and noticed his progress. Maybe it was about time to increase his dexterity and speed. He was good with bows and arrows, but he felt that he should increase his strength and endurance and use the spear that he made as well. It was troublesome to have a limited number of times that he could attack.

"I guess I will need a better stick to make a spear," Sigma thought and then noticed that the sun was about to set. "I don't like this, but I will have to camp around here."

Sigma found a grove on the right side of the road that could protect him from the wind of the night. He checked the place to make sure that no animal would bother him, and then he climbed one of the trees to rest on one of the branches.

Before he could notice it, Sigma began to relax and get sleepy… the day hadn't seemed that long, but he had to fight many times, and he never let the situation get the better of him. Keeping his cool all the time was quite tiring.

All of a sudden, Sigma felt like he had blinked, and then it turned dark around him. At first, he thought that it had been the case, but he realized that he had fallen asleep. The moon on the horizon was rising, and thanks to that, Sigma woke up a little and then saw a light in the same direction, but it didn't belong to the moon.

Sigma silently dropped from the tree and then began to walk in that direction. He didn't want to believe that he had decided to camp so close to a city, but maybe his guess was wrong.

In any case, he made sure to change to the other side of the road in order to avoid the enemies hearing his steps or feeling his smell. The wind could help them with that, so it was important for Sigma to make good use of such things.

[You learned the passive Stealth.]

Sigma ignored that since, after half an hour, he found the origin of the light… it was a campfire. He found a lot of people around it, but he found some other things as well, like a lot of weapons, bandits, and some people in cages.
