Kapitel 88: Chapter 4

Rome...

Lupus with his new property is currently walking towards an agreed place. The place agreed is the place outside the city walls, the drop off point where they're inserted to this society earlier in the morning.

The two haven't really talked since they left the office and it's due to Lupus ordering her to come with him did their first piece of conversation happened. A simple order and a nod as the answer.

Earlier, the duo sneaked from the watchful eyes of the guards on the towering high gate towers. They breezed through the buildings like it's nothing while Lupus has the slave on his back, carrying her comfortably.

The slave is still dumbfounded from everything that's happening. She just saw someone leap from building to building with ease.

As Lupus leaped from on top of the city walls, the slave almost screamed in fear but she knew better. She'll die if she did anything so she decided to shut her mouth.

Lupus suddenly stopped on the edge of the city wall and observed around him to see if there's anyone or anything that followed them.

He then tightly clutched the legs of the slave and jumped from a top of a tall city wall. The slave almost immediately lost her consciousness as no human can make this jump. She even thought that her new master is some sort of suicidal maniac because of this behavior.

The landing however was out of her expectations. It created no sound, no powerful wind, no crack of bones, nothing. What happened is comparable to a feather gently landing on the ground.

She then almost screamed once more but she lost her consciousness due to shock, stun, and fear.

Lupus just shook his head as he started to walk to the place while carrying the unconscious slave girl. Eventually, he reached it and there, he saw that everything is ready and prepared.

The moment he was seen by his squad, they didn't talked about the slave girl as they know it's pretty much a normal practice of this era. But what they asked him is why did he brought her here.

"Why is she here? Why did you brought her here? You could've chained her or something." immediately raised a slim man as he tied his hair and operated the little satellite dish.

They used their equipment earlier and transformed them to communication equipment while they used the given clothing.

"I can't, I can't leave her on the barracks as I risk her getting lost or possibly stolen and sold. She's my property already, I need to take care of her." reasoned Lupus as he settled the slave girl on a nearby tree.

There, he created a rope using vines and tied it around the ankle of the slave to prevent her from escaping.

"Let's start?" asked the oldest man in the squad didn't care as much as the others. The satellite dish started to spin and the transmission finally connected.

Hours later, the transmission has finally ended and Lupus has a strong facial expression plastered on his face. A face showing unwillingness as he bite down on his teeth.

He then looked up in the sky and murmured.

"Your wish is my command, father..."

...

The great army of Rome lead by Publius Cornelius Scipio has started their long and tedious march to intercept Hannibal Barca's army who just recently crossed the Alps and was now recruiting the local Gaul to join his cause.

Rows upon rows of Roman soldiers carrying their scutums. Velites carrying projectiles and the Equites slowly riding their horses as the march moved on.

The Roman army numbered around 70 thousand men strong. All fully equipped however there's at least 1/4 of the army that was a new recruit and hasn't seen any battle.

The 9 men on the squad of Lupus was marching together with their comrades as they're put into the 120 men team of a Hastati, a light infantry equipped with short throwing spear, an oval like shield, and a short sword.

Lupus on the other hand is on the general's entourage of bodyguards.

He was ordered to do this. He needs to quickly rise on the ranks and earn himself a nice position in the army preferably.

He then needs to buy a good looking mansion in the city of Rome, then let the time pass by while earning money, glory, and fame for his family.

All of this are preparations for the becoming of the Roman Empire. And the "family" of Lupus, the men to be sent from the colony will take the position of Praetorian Guards.

But even if this is the plan, he still has planned to break away from this nonsensical servitude by killing the general on the battlefield, that's the concession he made with his father.

The entourage of the general was given the chance of becoming the vanguard of the whole army which the general gladly accepted.

So here is Lupus now, riding a horse alongside the general as they slowly neared the river of Ticino.

The roman soldiers under the general are as follows:

Around 5000 footsoldiers

Around 2000 range support; and

Around 500 cavalry

A sizable enough force considering their job is just to scout and they wouldn't really act as a vanguard for it's unnecessary while they're on the territory of Rome.

The Roman soldiers are chanting and singing military songs while marching under the intense heat of the sun.

"Roma, Oh Roma..." the captain of a 120 men team slowly shouted as his soldiers slowly replied in a chanting tone.

"Aeterna! Aeterna! Victrix!" shouted the soldiers as the sounds of the marching can be heard even from a distance.

Currently, Lupus and the whole entourage of the general was on a cliff who oversaw the marching Roman soldiers.

Lupus are wearing a standard Equites equipment. He still hasn't gotten the standard equipment for a general's bodyguard due to the lack of time.

As they're observing, a scout suddenly came in with a horse bearing a news.

"General! The enemy is marching near the Ticino river, they'll most likely encamp there!" the scout saluted before he spoke. His words made the general frown as he looked at one of his bodyguards and signalled.

"Go, relay this to Consul Scipio, our chance is now! You, give the order for a force march! We will meet them immediately in battle!" the general gave a bunch of orders which some of his bodyguards went out to perform. The rest stayed and protected him.

Lupus didn't went out and gave the order, instead he stayed and "protected" the general.

"Everyone! Let's move!"

The shout of the general, coupled with the trumpets signifying the force march sounded as the heavy sounds of boots was heard once more.

The battle of Ticino river, is about to unfold...
