27th December 1985 | Black Manor |12 PM
The Williams had come to the Black Manor after breakfast to leave Henri there, but Sirius convinced them to stay for lunch. They were discussing the lack of entertainment, especially for Lords such as themselves who don't have a lot of work to do. Lord Williams expressed his surprise when Sirius said he hadn't taken the Black Seat in the Wizengamot. It was a prestigious post and it held considerable authority.
Sirius laughed at their suggestion to take up his Family Seat and said, "There are many reasons, but on the top of my head, I can only think of how I don't want to be associated with the Black Family. Also, if I take up the Black Seat, who will take care of Harry?"
Sirius looked in the direction where the kids were. The kids had gone off to play a game. Previously, they were only three in number, but now since they were four, they could play a large number of games.
The Williams nodded. Lady Williams said, "It was nice to meet you, Lord Black. We would love to stay for lunch, but we have lunch with some of our House Allies. I would like to invite your family to our house sometime."
Sirius sent them off through the floo and then walked to the cabinet which was in the dining area.
There was a similar cabinet in the living rooms, as well as in the hall. These cabinets held the one thing most precious and precarious to men - alcohol. The cabinet Sirius opened was filled with a plethora of magical alcohol, from Nettle wine to Firewhiskey.
Sirius took the bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhiskey and took the sole glass in the cabinet. He filled the glass half full and put the bottle back into the cabinet and closed it. The cabinets were charmed so that people below 14 could not open them.
He sat on his couch and slowly sipped his Firewhiskey.
Meanwhile, the four children were playing Life. Life wasn't a long game, but it took a bit of their time. They played for almost 2 hours. Life was that game where if people below 15 played it, every roll was filled with giggling.
"Hehe... Charlus got married first."
"You got children first."
"Look at Neville, he finished the game without children."
"What about Henri? He has 10 children. He had to get another car."
"I finished first. I am richest."
"You finished first, but I am richer."
Everyone ended up in the millionaire estate except Charlus. Charlus, to everyone's amusement, had no money left. He lost all of it to disasters and insurance so when he finished, his net worth was at 0.
Charlus wanted to distract the topic from his loss, so he reminded them about the time.
"It's lunchtime. I'm off to lunch. Race you."
He raced out of the room and everyone raced behind him. Normally, Charlus was already the fastest person on the four, and so with his head start, he reached the dining area well before the others. He quickly sat in his chair and snapped his fingers. The food appeared in front of him and Charlus quickly took his fork and knife and gorged a huge bite. He swallowed the piece just before the others arrived.
"You all are so slow." Charlus shook his head and continued eating. He was trying hard to fight his smile, and so he took huge bites. The others sat beside him and started eating.
After eating, they went to the living room and found Sirius sleeping on the couch with an empty glass threatening to fall off his hand. Charlus looked at his guest apologetically.
"Let's play another game. Harry, set the Monopoly board, I'll come back in a second."
Harry and the others went to the toy room while Charlus stayed back to see what happened to Sirius. What happened to Sirius was not uncommon. Charlus had seen Sirius drink half a glass of the Firewhiskey and sleep on the couch. When he asked Sirius what happened, he would say that he had been reminded of his memories.
"Tonky! Can you send Sirius to his room?"
Tonky popped in and popped out with Sirius. Then the elf came back and cleaned the small mess Sirius had created too. Seeing that the situation was taken care of, Charlus went to be with his friends.
"Henri, did you get my gift? I loved yours. The pillow is so soft."
Henri was reminded by Charlus about the gift he had given for Christmas.
"Yeah! I was so surprised you got me a pillow too. Guess the dorm pillows are that bad."
The two laughed while Neville and Harry set the Monopoly board. They played the Monopoly game, and after the game, Charlus decided he would never play luck-based games ever again. He had racked up so much debt in the end, it was almost like there was something that was sucking his luck out of him.
