Kapitel 28: Paula
They were in the car and Dante noticed that Camilla was distracted.
"normally, you would be a chatterbox but today you are oddly quiet, what is it?" Dante asked.
"Nothing, I just want to be quiet" she replied.
"I don't think you and the word quiet can be used in the same sentence" he told her.
"Fine, I am just worried about the meeting, I hope nobody is going to pick on me"
Dante turned her face to face him, "Camilla, nobody would dare do that to you, you belong to me and nobody would dare me" he told her.
"But Vanna did" Camilla pointed out.
"Nobody except spoiled daughters of mafia lords not in the alliance" he replied.
Camilla shook her head, a ghost of a smile lingering on her face.
"I am so worried" Dante said.
"Why? What's wrong?" he asked.
"I am worried about Valerie, I don't know how he is doing, if he is okay or not" he said.
"You haven't heard anything from him?"
"no I haven't and I am so damn worried, you know a lot of people probably think I and Valerie don't care about each other"
"Why would they think so?" Camilla asked.
"We don't have the same mother, we didn't grow up together but they couldn't be more wrong, I love and care for him so much."
"I am sure he is pretty much the only person you love" Camilla told him.
"Not really, In my entire life, I have loved three people" he replied.
"Really, who are the remaining two?" Camilla asked.
"Geremia and someone else you don't need to know" he replied.
"was it a girl or a boy?" he asked.
"A girl" he replied.
Camilla was about to grill him further when they pulled into Paolo's compound.
"Wow! His place looks impressive" Camilla said as she looked around.
Dante rolled his eyes, "I don't see the big deal" he said.
Camilla looked at him, a mischievous teasing glint in her eyes. "Don't be jealous okay? His compound might be impressive but I love yours the most" she told him.
A smile involuntarily appeared on Dante's face, he wiped it off immediately.
"let's get down" he told her as he opened the car door and stepped out and then helped her down.
Almost immediately someone tackled him and a flowery voice squealed Dante's name.
Dante looked up and it was as if his heart stopped working,
"Paula" he whispered.

Camilla looked at the both of them confused, who was this woman? Why was she hugging Dante so tightly and why was he looking at her like she was a dream. If she felt a stab of Jealousy, she refused to acknowledge it.
"How have you been?" she asked him.
"I am good, you?" he asked in return.
"couldn't be better"
"I was so excited when Paulo said that you were coming over, I rushed down to welcome you" she said.
"How is New York?" he asked her.
"Good, now come in, everyone is waiting for you" she said as she pulled him inside.
"Come on, let's go inside" Geremia told her, apparently he had been standing beside her while she had been transfixed with the sight in front of her.
"Who is she?" Camilla asked as they walked into the house.
"Paolo's younger sister" Geremia replied.
"So she is close to Dante? I thought Paolo and Dante hated each other" Camilla asked.
"Well she was his first girlfriend, so I'd say they are pretty close" he told her.
"They used to date each other?" Camilla asked Geremia.
"Yes, as a matter of fact, she was his first girlfriend" Geremia replied.
"Wow, did he used to hate Paolo back then too?" Camilla asked.
"No, they were very good friends back then" Geremia answered.
"What went wrong then?" Camilla asked.
They were in front of the room where the meeting was to take place. Geremia turned to look at Camilla.
"You seem very curious about this matter, why are you so curious?" he asked her.
"I just want to know more about my boss, is that not normal?" Camilla asked.
"Hmmmm, are you sure it's not because you are feeling a little jealous" Geremia asked.
"Me, jealous? I have no reason to be jealous" Camilla denied.
Dante came out of the room and looked at the both of them suspiciously.
"What are you doing outside?" he asked them.
"nothing, we were just about to enter inside" Geremia replied.
Dante reached out and grabbed Camilla's hand and pulled her inside while Geremia followed behind, a mischievous smile on his face.
Camilla sat down beside Dante while Geremia stood behind them. To Camilla's displeasure, Paula came to sit down by Dante's side, whispering and giggling to him. Camilla tried her best to ignore the both of them.
Paolo sat down at the head of the table glowering at the both of them, at least someone else was not happy with how close the both of them were sitting, Camilla thought to herself. She looked around, Ferrante hadn't arrived yet, she was eager to see how the poison was working.
"Ferrante isn't here yet, was he informed about the meeting?" Antonio asked.
"Yes, I called him, his wife picked it up and assured me that he would be here" Paolo replied.
"Silvana?" Dante asked.
"Yes, Silvana, unless he has another wife, I am not aware of" Paolo replied sarcastically.
