"Bingo..."
As I stared at the metal trapdoor beneath the bed, my heart raced with anticipation. This was it - the hidden chamber where the Ancient Dark Mana training technique was stored.
Creak...
I carefully lifted the trapdoor, feeling its weight and the rough texture of the metal against my palms. There was no ladder, just darkness below, and I knew I had to descend slowly, using the walls for support.
"It's the same as in the book..."
Gently, I lowered myself into the dark void, my hands and legs gripping the edges of the opening. The air was cooler here, and the walls felt damp. I could sense the vast emptiness around me, a feeling of being suspended in the unknown.
It was eerie, descending into the unknown, complete darkness that seemed to swallow me whole.
Thud...
Suddenly, my feet hit solid ground, making me startle. I realized I had reached the bottom, but the darkness remained.
"Come on..."
Stumbling a bit in the dark, I took a deep breath, letting my senses adjust. The air felt heavy with age like I was surrounded by forgotten history.
Swish...
Suddenly, a few torches on the walls flickered to life, casting a warm, orange glow across the chamber.
The feeble light illuminated the immediate area, casting dancing shadows that seemed to stretch and twist like living entities.
"Wow..."
The chamber was circular, and the torchlights revealed four passages stretching out in cardinal directions: North, East, West, and South. Each path beckoned, shrouded in uncertainty.
I tried to see beyond the weird fog covering the openings, but it was difficult to make out anything.
There were shadows dancing behind the mist in each passage, almost as if they were taunting me to choose my path.
It was clear that the choice of which path to take was a crucial one, but there is one funny thing about this whole situation...
The novel hadn't revealed Eva's choice.
The author barely mentioned that Ava picked one of the passages by simply flipping a coin twice.
The author left it up to the reader's imagination to decide which path Eva would choose.
It was simply written: 'She flipped a coin once to decide which, right or left, and then flipped it again to decide whether to go to the one with a stronger scent or the one with a faint breeze'.
The problem was that when she discovered this place, she was way stronger than me.
Her senses were also ten times sharper than mine, which allowed her to detect subtle differences in scent and air movement.
And now here, I stood, not feeling any kind of scent or breeze to guide me.
"Bullshit..."
A part of me wished for more information, a hint, anything that might reveal which path was the right one, however, I was faced with the reality that there was no sure way of knowing.
For the second time in my life, I was not happy with the way the Author wrote this part of the story.
For the second time, I found myself frustrated with the author's decision to leave the choice of Eva's path up to the reader's imagination.
My first annoyance with the Author was when he killed Eva in the last chapter, but now I found myself frustrated once again.
"Calm down..."
I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to sense any subtle cues, any hint of an invisible force guiding me. But the darkness held its secrets, and I had no choice but to make a decision.
"..."
Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself that sometimes in life, we have to take risks and embrace the unknown.
Although I didn't like it, since I liked to be in control of everything that happened around me, I was forced to trust my instincts.
"What should I choose..."
I scratched my chin and closed my eyes, starting to spin like a child playing a game.
'Well, since the author left it up to my imagination, I might as well take a leap of faith and trust my gut feeling...'
Muttering to myself, I did a few more spins and finally stopped, opening my eyes to see which path fate had led me to.
