HENRY POV
The night covered the sky, charmed my eyes, and erode me into another town after we had dinner, and then a knock was heard at the door. I woke up. The knocks sound came rapidly now.
"Who is there?" Alice's mother shouted. She stood up and Alice stood up too, but I didn't, I want to know what would happen. Why would someone knock on the door this midnight?
"I will go and check it," Alice said.
"No, you stay. I will go" She stood up and called, "Who's there?".
The door was opened ajar, and a deep voice said, "I'm a police officer."
"I see."
I didn't hear what they were discussing, I was afraid, afraid of being caught on the bed, but I stay still, and not long after, the door cracked. And I heard Alice's mother saying, "You can come in."
"Good."
They both steps into the room, I opened one and saw him, he walked to the cupboard, opening it, checking if someone is hiding there, and then he just sighed. "Maybe... maybe Henry had drowned in the water."
"He can't survive sir," Alice's mother said.
"I think so" I closed my eyes as he turned to us on the bed, he said, "hello."
"Hi," Alice replied.
"How are you?"
"Fine."
"I'm sorry for disturbing you guys."
"It's fine." Alice always smiles when saying that words. And I guess that she's smiling now.
"Who's beside you?"
"Anabelle."
His steps came near to me, I hold my breath for a while and snored intentionally, and then he sighed again. "She's pretty."
"Thank you," Alice said.
"I need to go now. Thank you, Mrs. Ellen."
"Not mentioning," Alice's mother said.
I released my breath as he walked out of the room, and Mrs. Ellen, Alice's mother, said, "Goodbye." And then closed the door.
Mrs. Ellen darted to the room, I opened one eye, she wore a worried face and sat on the chair. "God saved this innocent child tonight."
Alice said, "Mom, what did he said?
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Yes, sleep dear. Have a nice dream," she said as she laid down on the bed, and Alice laid too. But I couldn't sleep, thinking how did the officer get here? How did he know here? Dogs barked outside. And a knock was heard again at the door. But this time the knocks are hard and it makes incessant noises.
"Mom," Alice said, tapping her mom.
"What?"
"Someone is knocking on the door. Should I go?
"Okay, okay, You stay, I will check." She got down and walked out. And here I felt anxiety again.
The knocks sound harder now. "I'm coming."
And then the door cracked, and was opened ajar, a noise was heard, it came once, and from here, I know it was a gunshot, and Alice knows too.
Alice screamed, and I covered her mouth, "We should hide somewhere."
I opened the window and we hide under the bed. Not long after, the door cracked. Opened. And someone stepped in. I saw his black shoes, through the bed, and a word was an imprint on it, DRAGON. I hold my breath. He steps towards the bed, and his torso is coming lower and lower, till he bends them, I covered Alice's mouth when she wants to scream out of fear. Suddenly, he stood up, darted to the window, and then jumped out. His absence makes me breathe out, and I removed my hand from Alice's mouth slowly.
I crawled out, and Alice followed. She ran to her mother, screaming, "Mom, please don't leave me alone. Mummy please."
Tears dropped out of my eyes, seeing blood gushing out of Mrs. Ellen's head. "He mustn't meet us here, we must run away first."
Alice stood up, cleaning her tears. "Which way?"
"Here." And we ran out through the front door. A police car siren was heard, and I thought, maybe someone had called the police after hearing gunshots. But here, we didn't stop to know, we keep running toward the bush that leads to the river. Alice fell and I carried her, I knew she was tired, and then I carried her on my back, like a mother to her child. And then, with all strength, I run away, and her tears are dropping on me "Mummy."
I'm running, jumping over big stones, feeling the weight of Alice on me. I'm running, running through the lawn. Thunderlight flashes in the sky, it boomed, and it starts raining. Rain poured on my naked legs. And suddenly, something sharpen pierced my feet, it hurts, and I feel blood gushing out, but I must not stop, to save our lives.
Alice looked back, and saw my blood, staining the ground, staining the leaves."We must wait"
"Why?"
"Blood."
"It's nothing."
"Please stop."
"He might be following us."
"He's not," Alice said, "Please stop."
I slow down and dropped Alice under a tree, and I felt pains in my back and feet. It's raining heavily, and someone darted here and stopped, I covered Alice's mouth not to make a sound. He glanced around, he wears a mask, and I remembered the killer that shoots Erica. He's here again to kill and put the crime on me. After some moments, he ran as he heard the approaching legs. And the legs were police owns. They ran past in front of us and I released my breath.
"Oh my God," Alice cried
"Shhh"
"We should do something to stop the blood." She plucked some leaves, squinched its water on my wound. It hurts but I cried silently, and then the blood stopped flowing.
"Thank you," I said.
"Not mentioning," Alice said.
"The guy that wears a mask shoots Erica."
"You mean he's the one that put the crime on you?"
"Yes. He called the police after he shoots your mom." I cried and she cried too.
"What did he wants?"
"I don't know."
"Who the hell he was?"
"I don't know."
Alice's tears dropped more than the rain does. She slept on my lap like a child to her mother's lap, sobbing, and I off my clothes to cover her from feeling cold.
