Kapitel 14: Captive

Keeping his gaze looked on the wall, Harry gently, as to not disturb the girl, pulled the blanket over her naked body. She was, as Harry had expected, of a similar age to himself, slightly older if he were to believe, around nineteen-twenty years old. She was beautiful as well, despite being a little malnourished in places, she was certainly beautiful enough that he had to bring his Occlumency shields up.

Sitting back down in the chair, Harry looked up at the ceiling with a sigh, resting his aching body. 'I could really use a potion right now, damn protocol.' He bemoaned, closing his eyes in thought. 'What do I do now though? I don't have a clue why Derek or the Alphas want her? And I certainly don't have clue on how to figure that out even if I did? So, what am I meant to do?'

Harry didn't know where their base was, and he doubted they'd be making a move anytime soon considering what he had done. The losses they suffered would also force them to keep their heads down for good, at least until their reinforcements arrived.

'That means I'm on a deadline and I need to find them before their reinforcements arrive.' He deduced. 'Damnit, why'd have to go and blow my cover like that?! What the fuck was I thinking?'

His eyes flickered open and once again looked upon the girl. Her face was smooth, slightly smudged with dirt and blood from where she had ripped out men's throats and rolled around in the dirt as a coyote. But her face was calm and relaxed, she seemed innocent and gentle as she lay there. Nothing like the savage beast and the wild thoughts he could feel persisting from her mind.

'She's innocent, but so is Teddy. And I've probably screwed this entire thing up because I couldn't stop myself. I'm still not good enough.' Releasing a deep sigh, Harry rubbed his temple irritably. 'I've saved you and I don't even know your name.'

Looking to her, Harry focused his mind and delved into her thoughts once more. He knew it was a breach of privacy to do so, but Harry knew that he couldn't avoid doing this. He had risked everything to save her life and he needed answers, her name would be good starting point.

Eventually, after numerous memories passed by Harry finally found what he was looking for. "Malia." He whispered.

Walking down the corridor, dressed in a pair of jeans and a simple black shirt, Harry pushed open the door to the bedroom. Behind him, a floating tray filled with food and a steaming cup of tea followed him inside as the door closed behind him.

"Good morning." At the windowsill, Malia turned to him. She was dressed in loose, comfortable clothing that Croaker had procured and delivered to him by Owl sometime after the potion was administered. When she had awoken, things had not been pretty, she was still very much wild and uncontrollable, running upon the same instincts she had possessed as a coyote.

However, something in those instincts seemed to have recognised him, enough that while still incredibly wary and threatening whenever he entered a room, she at least didn't attack him outright.

Over the course of the first few days, he had simply placed her food outside her door and knocked, letting her know it was there. Before leaving to search the surrounding area of Cornwall bit by bit, day by day. He had found credible leads from talking with people in the various towns and cities, and spent the entire day searching those areas. All they had resulted in was a dead-end, but he had searched tirelessly, trying to make up for his earlier failings.

While it hadn't led to much, he had found a few things here and there that had narrowed his search to the nearby area of Perranporth. He had been searching around that area sporadically and while it hadn't led to much, more and more clues seemed to lead to that area, Harry was still pursuing every lead. Some leading him further north to Newquay, others to areas all over Cornwall. It was a wild goose chase and it's just what he deserved for jumping the gun too quickly.

Either way, despite his visits outside of Porthleven and her initial distrust, Malia at least seemed to have recognised he meant her no harm. Harry wouldn't say she trusted him, but she certainly recognised he wasn't a threat to her.

She also didn't seem to know how to speak.

He knew from her memories that she had been at an age where she could speak quite clearly. Whether she couldn't speak due to how long it has been since she had or whether he hadn't developed enough trust for her to do so, he didn't know.

With a flick of his wand, Malia watching it warily as if expecting an attack, the tray slowly moved towards her. Malia's gaze then turning towards it, reflecting her hunger for food quite clearly.

Moving forwards and making a show of pocketing his wand as to put her at ease, Harry moved forwards to stand beside the window. Malia watched him carefully before eventually turning to look out the window once more. His gaze swept over the people outside and then back to Malia to see her watching them all as well.

"You want to go outside?" Malia turned back to him, looking to him questioningly. "You want to go out there? We can do that you know, staying inside all this time isn't exactly good for you. Just got to nod your head and we'll go out after finished your meal."

Malia was silent, not unlike she had been for a long while.

Eventually she nodded her head.

Pushing open the door to a small café, Harry and Malia stepped inside. It was relatively busy, a few families and groups of friends sitting down for something to eat in the early afternoon. They had been going about Porthleven for most of the morning and had come here now for a bite to eat for lunch.

It was Harry's hope that maybe due to Derek's interest in Malia that she may have some idea of where their base was. While he had delved into her mind with Legilimency on a number of occasions, there were certain memories that he hadn't been able to reach.

Her animalistic nature had made reading her mind difficult and while returning back into her human form had suppressed those instincts enough to open the vast majority of her memories. There were still traces of her memory in very difficult areas to reach, deeply locked under numerous walls that with his current skill, Harry just couldn't breach. It was his hope that if he managed to earn her trust, then breaching those walls would be easier.

The Mind Arts were difficult and very complex.

Using Occlumency and Legilimency required will and strength, but in some cases, it required trust.

Taking a seat at an empty table, Harry picked up the menu and looked over the choices before passing it over to Malia. "Choose whatever you want." Malia said nothing at first, just looking over the menu and at first he though she was choosing, but after almost five minutes of silence, Harry began to realise it was actually because she didn't know. "Do you want some help?"

Malia looked up, her eyes narrowing momentarily, but reluctantly she nodded her head.

Smiling, Harry moved his chair round and began to point out the sections of the menu and the little bits of it and eventually, Malia would point towards a simple sandwich of ham and cheese. "Okay, I'll go get this ordered, you wait here."

Getting to his feet, Harry moved towards the counter while Malia remained sat down. Turning to him, Malia studied the people in front of him, only two but she was hungry, and they irritated her. But in that moment, something tickled her nose, a scent of wet dog and she sniffed the air angrily, a small snarl coming upon her face as she turned to the window overlooking the street.

And there, walking down the pavement was a man.

Snarling, Malia's eyes flashed to an unnaturally bright blue as she rose to her feet.

Meanwhile, Harry waited patiently in line as he looked to his watch. It was in that moment that the man in front of him finally finished his order and Harry stepped up with a smile to the young girl behind the counter. She was around sixteen in age and upon seeing Harry, a light blush came onto her cheeks and her smile became a little wider.

"Hi, how can I help you today?"

"I'll get; two ham and cheese sandwiches and…" Turning back to see Malia, he frowned to see her seat empty. "Actually, cancel that order, sorry about that."

Exiting the café, Harry looked left and then right but caught no sign of her. 'Damnit, where the fuck are you, Malia?!' As he looked round he finally caught a glimpse of a girl that looked like her heading down towards Fore Street.

Cursing, Harry ran left after exiting Harbour Head and chased after them. Turning up Fore Street he continued up the street, passing by a number of shops but as he passed by an opening in an alley, he caught a glimpse in his peripheral and ground to a halt. Quickly stepping back, he looked back down the alley and rushed down the alley and gripping hold of Malia's bloody fist.

"Calm down, now." He warned lowly, his gaze flickering down to the man Malia had beaten. His face was a bloody mess, one eye beginning to swell. "You can't just beat people because you feel like it. What were you thinking?"

"He's one of them."

Harry blinked, shocked at the sound of her voice, though it did answer the question as to whether she was capable of speech or not. Either way, Harry dismissed the surprise of her talking and instead focused upon what she had said.

"One of them? A Werewolf?" Malia gave an affirmative grunt, ripping her hand out of his temporary loosened grip and used this opportunity to hit the downed Werewolf once more. Harry reacted quickly after that and pushed her away, Malia stumbling back and as soon as she recovered going to rush forwards.

Harry however positioned himself in between her and the downed Werewolf and stared her down, ignoring her snarling visage. "Calm. Down. Now." He repeated slowly, eyes narrowed in warning. "I need him alive. Once I'm done, you can have your revenge. But not before, am I clear?"

At first Malia looked ready to fight, to argue and even get physical if necessary. But something inside of her shifted and she turned away with an angry scowl, storming down the street and Harry watched her go with sigh.
