He stalked toward me, a predator closing in on its prey, his eyes dark and unreadable. "So, you laugh?" His voice was low, dangerously soft, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I swallowed hard, suddenly aware of how difficult it had become to breathe. "Hades, I—"
"But you only laugh at other men's jokes," he interrupted, his gaze piercing, devoid of any humor. "Not your husband's." The accusation in his tone was sharp, slicing through the air between us.
A nervous chuckle escaped me. "You can't be serious... He’s your beta, for Goddess’ sake."
In an instant, he closed the distance between us, so fast it left me breathless. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me flush against his body, the heat of him making my skin tingle. I gasped, but before I could say a word, his lips crashed onto mine, claiming my mouth with a force that sent shockwaves through me. The kiss was punishing, hungry—I couldn't breathe, couldn't think.
When he finally pulled back, I was trembling, my chest heaving as I struggled to regain my breath. His eyes, dark and stormy, searched mine with a possessive intensity. "You can’t laugh at my jokes..." he whispered, his voice a dangerous rasp as his fingers trailed lower, sending a shiver down my spine, "but you’ll come with my fingers."
I shivered, heat pooling low in my belly at his words, his touch. The world around us blurred, fading into nothing as his hand slipped lower, drawing a ragged gasp from my lips. The look in his eyes told me he knew exactly what he was doing to me, and there was no denying the primal connection between us in that moment.
"I don’t need your laughter," he murmured against my skin, his breath hot on my neck. "I’ll have every other part of you instead."

Rarely do I find a romance book that I get so invested in but this book has got me so hooked, I'm hanging on every chapter. The author has a real talent for story telling, slow burn, ache and hope. I especially love how relatable and realistic FMC's responses to the events are based on everything that made her who she is. I don't want it to end, at the same time I can't wait to see how it ends . Thank you Lilac for sharing this book to us!

This book has been amazing so far! I have been unable to put it down, and I'm now sulking, waiting on more chapters to come out. I don't even want to read another book while I wait. I am so excited to see how this finishes out! I've read tons of novels in this genre, this one has definitely been one of my favorites!

I've read stories that plunge the MC into unfortunate situations, but this one is on an entirely different level. I feel like I'm reading Eve's journey through the 9 Rings of Hell.
liked the story but preferably would like it narrated due to my sight issues & other personal problems. I've been following your stories online mainly on YT... enjoying how much you have progressed. thank you for allowing me to escape my reality for the duration of all your posted novels... also keep going pls even though it's hard for me especially knowing I can't get the completed stories! This book has me on a chokehold. This is my favorite genre but since I started my current career, I haven't had the time to read so I have shocked myself by how much I'm invested in this book after so many years. The highlight of my day since I started is the time I get to read the next chapter. I absolutely love HCL. Thank you, Lilac. You weave an excellent tale.

enjoying the various characters,specially the strong female lead with a craving for some love . the male character of hades , vulnerable guy turned monster is very well drawn out . there are so many layers of mystery that the book is too exciting 😲
wild story. i cannot believe the thread of the story develops so complex now. although for 155 chapters stalled so much... however , very clever and nicely written . congrats
Wish I could get more than 1 chapter per day. At least 3 chapters would be nice. I don't think this app gives all the rewards I earn. I watch enough videos and look at a lot of ads.
i have only just started the story, but the plot so far is interesting and not like anything i've read. i love the characters and am excited to see where the story goes.
um wow, not super often that I find a story that makes me genuinely feel for the characters. I've laughed and cried, and then laughed some more all the while curious how this one is gonna end. I've read A LOT of stories in this genre, and wrote A LOT in my own spare time. This story is an absolute banger! Looking forward to reading more!
