50% Global Awakening: Falling from the sky / Chapter 13: Retreat

Kapitel 13: Retreat

The four-person team was still calmly lying in ambush at this moment. They had no idea that hundreds of goblins were currently on their way to find them.

Obviously, the goblins had no clue what they were up against either. In their minds, humans were something they didn't even recognize.

"Hey, why do we have a different language?" Lei Feng asked.

At first, due to the convenience, no one paid much attention, but they only started getting surprised when they encountered the goblins.

Their minds weren't dull enough to think goblins were Chinese people. If that were the case, the odds would be far too small and not very reliable.

"Ah, that's called the common language. Earth has hundreds of nations, and other races aren't far behind. If we had a chaotic mix of languages, it would be very troublesome, so they simply created a common language for easier communication." Azeroth explained.

The three were astonished after hearing this, but when they thought it through, it wasn't all that shocking.

After all, since they had set foot in this world, they shouldn't use the old, outdated way of thinking anymore.

"But if that's the case, it'll be hard to have spies. As soon as they see humans, they'll take them out. Also, if we capture goblins and try to force them to surrender, it would be impossible. After all, a supreme race would never bow to another race, even in death, they'd drag us down with them." Long Wei said.

"Why think so much about it? If we can't do it, neither can they. That makes things much more straightforward. Just go to war directly," Xue Lian said.

She didn't care much about it because, after all, wouldn't direct combat be better anyway?

However, Lei Feng frowned at this moment and asked,

"Azeroth, is there shapeshifting magic?"

Hearing this, the other two immediately looked at him. If the answer was yes, then spying wouldn't be out of the question.

"No, the magic I'm talking about is about controlling elements, not some strange special abilities. Basically, they're just used for fighting, not blending into the enemy. If humans want to, they could directly research technology, but it would take a lot of time." Azeroth said.

The three pondered for a moment and then nodded, seeing the feasibility of research and having faith in science.

However, this wasn't their top priority because humanity still lacked the technology to completely alter the structure of the body.

Cosmetic surgery, after all, was only surface-level; the internal organs were still human. There was no way to truly turn into a goblin.

Moreover, the time investment would be enormous, and the resources required would be vast. After weighing it all, it didn't seem worth it. It would be better to recruit soldiers directly and go to war.

"Let's put the spy issue aside for now. Let's talk about magic. How exactly do we use it?" Xue Lian asked.

She had been curious about this so-called magic for a while. The simple reason was that she thought it would be more fun than fighting bare-handed.

"Wait, the higher-ups are probably organizing things right now. All you need to do is wait. When the time comes, you'll know how to use magic." Azeroth said.

Hearing him repeatedly mention the "higher-ups" made Lei Feng curious, so he asked:

"Why did the higher-ups create this war?"

"Of course, it's to give the races with the potential to become supreme beings a chance to compete for the position. After all, the universe is vast and constantly expanding, making it nearly impossible to find each other. Instead of wasting all that time, the higher-ups gather a group with similar levels of power to fight it out. Naturally, there are rewards, but I can't disclose them. However, the tower - whoever wins will keep it and gain access to all its resources." Azeroth explained.

Upon hearing this, everyone was surprised. They hadn't expected this reason, but it wasn't unreasonable.

If one day humanity could travel the entire universe, then the great conquest would officially begin. This was merely an early opportunity to start.

"Either way, sooner or later we'll have to fight. Besides, fighting now, with magic, will be much more fun. I don't believe humanity will lose." Xue Lian said.

She didn't care too much; if they encountered a fight, she'd fight. After all, there was no running away. Moreover, fear would only make her die faster, so it was better to fight with all she had.

It might sound contradictory, but in war, if you run, both sides will kill you.

Not only that, if you turn your back and run from someone holding a gun, you're dead for sure - unless the shooter is extremely incompetent.

"Overthinking is pointless, just give it your all. As long as we don't give up, we will win." Lei Feng smirked.

His faith in humanity had never wavered. That was why he aspired to be emperor.

He wanted to give humanity the support it needed to fully unleash its potential and lead them into the most extraordinary era.

It was unclear how much time had passed, but the sky was now nearing dusk. At this moment, three goblins were searching the area near them.

"Keep a close eye on the surroundings and grip your weapons tightly. We suspect there's a wild beast in this area."

"Understood."

The three goblins weren't exactly elites. Just by looking at their slightly fearful expressions and clumsy movements, it was clear they weren't in the best shape.

As they approached the riverbank, the trio was scanning the surroundings when they suddenly heard rustling in the nearby bushes.

The moment they turned to look, four stones flew toward them.

Caught off guard by the ambush, the goblins couldn't react in time and were severely injured. You could say they were incapacitated before they even had a chance to fight back.

Lei Feng's group was just about to finish them off when one of the goblins shouted:

"Enemy ambush!!!"

Before he could finish his scream, he was stabbed and killed on the spot. The remaining goblins met the same fate shortly after.

"Damn it, finish up here quickly and move! Drop the stones and grab a spear for faster movement. Their reinforcements are coming." Lei Feng ordered.

The others swiftly grabbed spears and followed him. As they ran, Long Wei asked:

"Your Majesty, which direction should we go?"

"Just follow the riverbank. I don't believe they can really catch up to us." Lei Feng replied.

He wasn't the type to run easily, but earlier, he'd sensed quite a bit of movement. His estimate was that there were no fewer than thirty goblins, and the actual number was likely even higher.

He couldn't risk his life recklessly. It wasn't yet a do-or-die situation, and it wasn't time for a desperate fight.
