Kapitel 45: Chapter 43: Eastern Front Pt.4

(Somewhere in the middle of the forest)

In the heart of the dense Belarusian forest, amidst the rugged terrain and whispering pines, Vincent led his band of forty-nine soldiers through the shadowed depths. At his side, Dave, his loyal second-in-command, scanned the surroundings with a keen eye, his senses attuned to the slightest hint of danger.

The company had stumbled upon a hidden oasis—a cave concealed behind a majestic waterfall, its entrance shrouded in mist and mystery. As they delved deeper into its depths, they left behind the haunting cries of the Restless Ghouls that pursued them, their ethereal voices echoing through the darkened corridors like a chilling dirge.

Vincent, his brow furrowed with concern, ordered a halt as they reached a secluded alcove within the cave, the distant roar of the waterfall a soothing backdrop to their whispered conversations. Dave, his features etched with determination, leaned in close to his commander, their voices low and urgent as they discussed their next steps.

"We must press on, Vincent," Dave insisted, his gaze unwavering. "The Ghouls are relentless in their pursuit, and we cannot afford to linger here for long."

Vincent nodded, his gaze scanning the faces of his comrades, each one a testament to the trials they had faced together. "Agreed, Dave. But we must rest and regroup before we venture forth into the unknown once more."

As the soldiers settled into an uneasy repose, the cave seemed to come alive with a strange energy, its walls pulsing with an otherworldly light. Vincent cast a wary glance at the shifting shadows, a sense of foreboding settling heavily on his chest.

Vincent, Dave and their 49 men were trekking towards the unknown inside of the cave landscape deeper than deeper, not knowing if there is an exit that may lead to the outside world. However, the ghouls were searching for them. Not knowing that they were buying some time while the first wave of the attack happened, for what Vincent and his men, however, encountered the 3rd wave then delay it by attacking them surprise. So, the 3rd Army group has some breathing room for a while, after they finished the first wave.

Not knowing if they are going to make it or not. As they ventured further into the depths of the cave landscape, a sense of foreboding hung heavy in the air. They were unaware of the ghouls that lurked outside, searching for them in the forest above, oblivious to the fact that their quarry had descended into the earth below.

Unbeknownst to the ghouls, Vincent and his men were not idle. They moved swiftly, navigating the twisting passages with a sense of purpose. They knew not if there was an exit that would lead them back to the outside world, but they pressed on nonetheless, their determination unwavering.

(Meanwhile, at 3rd Army Group position).

Everything was in disarray. The 3rd Army Group slowly found themselves on the edge. Many soldiers were running from their lives, Augustus leading them, many of the men, both soldiers and higher officials, were curious and wary of Augustus and his men.

They remember that Augustus said that Vincent and John sent here after him, no one believed him. Augustus shook his head and told them that the 1st and 2nd Army Group were now in Polish and Romania Lands. Preparing , regroup to defend the 2nd line of defense, the leaders of the 3rd Army Group were hesitant at first. Yet, they begin to cooperate, to save the lives of their men and for themselves.

The 3rd Army Group was now on the move to fight for another day. However, Augustus felt a sense of uneasy feeling that something may happen. On the other side, Vincent felt it as well but a dreadful feeling crawling into his heart. So, he keeps moving forward to reach their destination.

Silently praying to himself that everything will be okay, and the feeling earlier was nothing.

(Meanwhile, at HQ Headquarter, Paris, France)

In the heart of Paris, within the grand Coalition Building, the atmosphere crackled with urgency as John, the leader of the renowned Guild known as the Phantom Dwellers, strategized with his assembled staff of military experts and skilled guild members. The looming threat of an advancing enemy had pushed them to the brink of a critical juncture, where every decision could tip the scales between victory and defeat.

As the remnants of the 1st and 2nd Army Groups regrouped to fortify the second line of defense from Poland to the Black Sea, John found himself torn between overseeing the broader defense strategy and worrying about the absence of his trusted comrade, Vincent, and his fifty elite warriors who had ventured deep behind enemy lines in the Russian-Belarus Front.

John's thoughts churned with unease, a shadow of doubt creeping into his mind. Had his choice to task Vincent with this perilous mission been a mistake? The Phantom Dwellers, renowned for their unparalleled combat prowess and unwavering loyalty, had never failed him before. Yet, the unsettling silence that enveloped Vincent's mission stirred a sense of foreboding in John's heart.

Sitting at the head of the war room table, John's gaze flickered across the maps spread out before him, tracing the intricate network of troop movements and enemy positions. The weight of leadership bore down on his shoulders, every decision a gamble in the high-stakes game of war.

Amidst the hum of strategic discussions and urgent communications, a hushed murmur rippled through the assembled staff as reports of enemy advancements and skirmishes trickled in. The tension in the air was palpable, a storm brewing on the horizon.

(Meanwhile, at Vincent's Position)

As Vincent, Dave and their men were slowly making their way through the unknown path as they entered the cave a few hours ago.

"Dave, any news?" Vincent asked, earning a negative response from his second-in command. They traveled 5 hours since their journey to the unknown cave.

They were staring at the radio to see if they can get signal outside. Static is the only thing they can hear. Vincent and Dave looked at each other to see if they have any idea to solve this. Alas, nothing Vincent urged them to follow him.

A sense of unease lingered in the stale air as they ventured deeper, their torches casting eerie shadows on the cave walls. The ground beneath their feet was rough and uneven, echoing with the distant rumble of unknown dangers lurking in the dark.

As they pressed forward, uncertainty gnawed at Vincent's mind. Memories of the Resource War flooded back, a time when doubt and fear had nearly consumed him. Now, faced with the enigmatic maze of tunnels, that same feeling crept back into his thoughts. However, he drew strength from the words of his mentor, Eron, who had taught him that in moments of doubt, one must embrace the risk and push forward, trusting in the unknown outcome.

With a steely determination, Vincent set aside his inner turmoil and focused on the task at hand, finding a way out of the treacherous labyrinth. Every passing second felt like a countdown to disaster, as he knew that the fate of the 3rd Army Group, engaged in a fierce battle against the fearsome Restless Ghouls outside, relied on their success in navigating the cave.

The group marched on, their senses alert to every sound and movement around them. The cave twisted and turned, leading them deeper into its mysterious depths. Shadows danced on the walls, playing tricks on their weary minds. Whispers of ancient legends and forgotten curses echoed through the tunnels, adding to the sense of foreboding that enveloped them.

(Meanwhile, at the position of 3rd Army group)

Augustus was now standing at the watchtower, overseeing the reconstruction, soldiers cleaning the battlefield and briefing for what was going to happen next. He remembers how he decided to stay and fight while waiting for his superior Vincent to proceed to the second phase of the plan, not knowing that the plan was already faltering.

(Flashback 2 days ago)

While Augustus and other officials of the 3rd Army Group were in the HQ, which was situated in the middle of the fort. To discuss on what's the next thing they needed to do,

"Sir, what's our next move?" asked by the 1# officer. Wanted to know what their next plan would be to survive this onslaught.

A smoke erupted from Augustus'mouth as he takes the smoke to release the stress that was boiling inside of him. He knew that they needed to get out of this place to fight for another day, if not? Well, he doesn't know what would happen next…

A seed of doubt slowly erupted in his mind. Many questions flow like, will they able to survive this? Are they going to win? Where's Vincent? He should be here by now, and don't know what to do. What would be their next plan is.

"tus.. ustus.. Augustus.. Augustus.. Augustu… AUGUSTUS!!!!"

Augustus snapped from his thoughts as he looked around and saw the officers were staring at him. Confusion and concern that can see the officers shaking off those thoughts. He put his trust to Vincent once more, as he felt the energy slowly approaching.

He dismisses the feeling as he begins to give tasks to rebuild, rearm and clean the battlefield. Sudden voice erupted from his radio, he picks it up and asked.

(Flashbacks ends)

"Hello who is this?" Waiting for the reply for 5 minutes, Augustus and his second-in-command look at each other. Confuse about the sudden call from the radio.

"Shade 1-1 to Castle 1. Do you read me over? ". A sudden explosion erupted outside of the tent, earning a shocking look from the two.

"Shade 1-1 to Castle 1. Do you read me over?" the man on the radio asked again. They heard sudden gunshots and shouting on the other side.

Hearing his commander make it filled Augustus with joy. Now they need to act fast about the situation he was facing before it's too late.

(Meanwhile, at Vincent's position)

On this day, Vincent and his band found themselves at the exit of a darkened cave, as they emerged into the open air, the sun was beginning its descent over the horizon, casting a golden hue over the towering mountain they now found themselves upon. From this vantage point, they could see the vast expanse of land laid out below them, dotted with forests, rivers, and villages that glimmered like jewels in the fading light.

Vincent raised his binoculars to his eyes, a gift from the ancient seer of the northern mountains that allowed him to see far beyond the reach of normal eyesight. As he scanned the horizon, his gaze settled on their destination - the 3rd Army Group, a formidable force that stood like an impenetrable wall between them and their mission's completion.

Turning to Dave, his eyes glittering with determination, Vincent spoke in a voice that brooked no argument. "We have come too far to turn back now. The fate of Europe rests in our hands, and we cannot falter. We will finish what we started, no matter the cost."

Dave nodded; his face etched with grim resolve. Together, they relayed Vincent's orders to the men, a silent understanding passing between them as they geared up for the battle that lay ahead. Each man and woman knew the risks, each man and woman understood the stakes, but they stood tall and unyielding, ready to face whatever challenges came their way.

With the setting sun at their backs, Vincent and his band of warriors began their descent down the treacherous mountain path, their footsteps steady and sure despite the steep terrain. The air was thick with anticipation, the tension palpable as they drew closer to the waiting army that stood like a dark specter on the battlefield.

Now, they need to stop their enemy's relentless advance one or another. To defend their loved ones, family, friends and the life they have right now, even if they are going to do. They were ready to defend and fight for what they have against any foe that was standing in front of them…
