I selected the perk and activated it. Instantly, my muscles tensed as if bound by iron chains, and my head grew foggy as my psychic power wrapped tightly around me. I gasped, surprised by the sensation, and quickly checked my Stats.

"You're okay there?" Blast asked, stepping forward and looking me over. "Did you get a concussion or something? Should I call an ambulance?"

"No, no," I replied, shaking off the concern. "I'm fine, just tired."

"I understand," Blast said, sounding more companionable. "I heard their secret hideout is in this forest too, but after today, all I want to do is head home and rest for work tomorrow."

"I've got school the day after tomorrow," I said, glancing at my phone. While I could rest for a bit and recover, I was more than ready to head home and try out my new perk. Gamer's Mind might not help with back-to-school blues, and fighting while distracted wasn't ideal.

"So, want to have a…" I started, but when I looked up, Blast had already left. "Oh, you're gone," I said, observing the empty space around me. I shrugged and began jogging back. My house was a few hundred miles away, so I decided to enjoy the journey, using the time to recover my HP and MP. I also made a mental note to find a way to increase my vitality, as Power Sealing hadn't improved it.

-Six Years Later-

'A lot can change in six years. I've really become strong.'

At twenty, now an adult with no need for sleep, I devoted significant time to self-improvement. That would be true if not for the usual adult responsibilities and family dynamics. My family had expanded considerably, and while I appreciated them, their constant inquiries about my new business were quite disruptive to my training.

"Two specials, boss," a brown-haired man said, holding up two fingers. He was an employee I hired after my first year of business. I ran a small restaurant, now also serving as its only chef. With my enhanced skills, I could prep food at incredible speeds, a talent honed to near perfection.

**Cooking (LVL 256) - Passive**

Allows the user to prepare food by mixing, combining, and heating ingredients. Higher levels improve taste and nutritional value.

Lately, my life felt like an episode of *Shokugeki no Soma*, minus the TV drama. My restaurant wasn't just a way to launder money from dungeons; it was a passion project. My cooking skill earned me decent money with minimal expenses.

A knock on the door interrupted me. I turned off the stove and went to answer. I kept my interactions with staff to a minimum, preferring to handle the kitchen solo.

"Yes?" I asked, not bothering to remove my apron. "What is it? The lunch rush isn't over yet." The restaurant, normally bustling with customers, was now occupied by shady men in black suits.

"Boss, they just showed up," my head waiter whispered. It was the extortion racket I'd heard about affecting nearby businesses. I'd hoped to avoid this, but no such luck.

"Morning," the leader, a slick-haired man with sunglasses, greeted as he lit a cigarette. "We're from the Genovese Insurance Company. Ever considered business insurance?"

Definitely an extortion racket. The Shounen hero trope might dictate a refusal and a fight, but in reality, that would be considered assault and lead to legal complications. Organized crime's existence often indicates a failing legal system, which opens the door for vigilante justice.

"How much?" I asked, cutting to the chase. The amount he named was high, but I didn't waste time. I discreetly withdrew the money from my inventory and handed it over.

"It's nice to deal with a smart guy," the gangster said, smiling as he accepted the money, flicking ash from his cigarette onto my table. "I'll be back next month."

"Sorry about that, boss," my employee said apologetically. I smiled to reassure him.

"It's no worry," I said. "What goes around comes around."

"If you say so," he replied, skeptical.

"You can clean up the kitchen and close up for today," I instructed before heading out.

"Boss, please don't go to the police," he urged. "You don't know what they did to the last person."

"I can guess," I replied, smiling. "Don't worry. I'm just going home to catch that new show on TV—the one with the guy who loves that girl." I didn't watch much TV; it was like the internet on a schedule.

As I stepped into Y-City, I noticed a crowd of my customers waiting. I locked eyes with them, counting before smiling.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience," I said. "The shop is closed for today. Please come back and ask for a coupon for a free meal at your convenience."

There was some grumbling, but many wished me well and asked if I was okay. The advantage of running a small restaurant was the strong sense of community. Though I didn't plan to run the restaurant long-term, it served me well until the Hero Association was formed six years from now. Plus, I had developed a craving for great food, thanks to my last Outsider ability.
