Upon entering the rustic tavern, the room filled with laughter and the smell of freshly baked pies, Li Yang wasted no time. He headed straight for Feng Xuan, his friend, who was nursing a glass of deep amber ale.
"Brother," Li Yang began, concern evident in his voice, "How do I earn 50,000 academic credits?"
Feng Xuan, looking somewhat surprised by the urgency in Li Yang's tone, responded, "Wow, aiming high, aren't you? Straight up wanting 50,000 credits!" Taking a sip from his ale, he continued, "From what I've seen at the Task Hall, a C-level task earns a maximum of 100 credits. You'd have to complete 500 of those. Alternatively, an S-level task can get you up to 1,000 credits. Complete 50 of those, and you'll hit your target. But there's a catch: you need to be ranked within the top 100 to access them. It's tough."
Li Yang's hopes wavered, "Isn't there any other way?"
Feng Xuan leaned in closer, a mischievous gleam in his eyes, "Ever heard of the Ranking Tournament? If you can clinch a position in the top ten, you'll receive a whopping 50,000 credits. Moreover, you'll earn the coveted title of being the direct disciple of a renowned Master. Tempting, isn't it?"
Li Yang's eyes widened with excitement, "When's the tournament?"
Feng Xuan sighed, "It's in five months. You're not considering competing for the top ten spots, are you? That's audacious."
"Of course, I am," Li Yang declared with determination. "With my current strength, I can't compete with the top ten, but there's some time to enhance my abilities. For now, I need to head back to the dormitory and strategize. By the way, where's Lisa? Aren't you accompanying her?"
Feng Xuan's face turned a shade redder, "She's been distant lately, always engrossed in her classes."
Li Yang patted his friend on the back, "Keep pursuing your happiness. You've got this. See you later."
And with that, Li Yang left the tavern, a new sense of purpose burning within him. The Ranking Tournament wasn't just about the credits; it was about proving himself, earning respect, and most importantly, securing the resources he needed for his ambitious plans. The next few months would be challenging, but Li Yang was ready to face them head-on.
