Kapitel 191: To Drag A Saint Down To Hell (04)

In this world, Saints are incredibly respected.

Throughout the ages, they have protected the land from various calamities.

In times of desperation, it is the light of the Saints that has guided the population to a worthwhile future.

As such, it is a position envied by many.

And also... a respectable title.

I have no doubts about how blessed I am to have become one. If not for it, I would never be able to attend the academy...

It's only thanks to this blessing that I was able to meet Edmond, Albert, Lennard, and the Evretis family's butler.

I'm truly grateful for this, but it's not like this position has no downsides. It does come with its own share of problems and responsibilities as well.

As the Saint it is up to me to help everyone and guarantee they will live happy and fulfilling lives.

Their fate depends on me playing my role perfectly.

By far the most difficult chapter for me to write yet.

I'm still not fully sure about it, but I managed to touch on everything I wanted, and I doubt I can make it better than this since it has already gone through multiple rewrites.

Also, this was the chapter I had scrapped/postponed before, so as promised, I'll talk a little about it.

First, what made it difficult for me was that both Sabrina and Gabriella have defined roles and things about them that I want to give clues about before revealing them and without making them too obvious.

However, this chapter should obviously contain the majority of clues regarding Sabrina, so it was hard to strike a good balance, especially while also maintaining Gabriella enigmatic and her identity a secret for most of it.

While I was trying to write this chapter I started to rethink its position since it would contribute to a greater sense of time passing if I had it after the last chapter with Miwen and the girls aboard Marin's ship. Another good thing was that the events were a little closer chronologically, so it just felt right to change the order of the chapters a little.

I imagined the extended time would also help me get some ideas to make this one satisfying enough to post, but alas, it took me a while anyway.

Some of the different rewrites had this chapter being written using the Nun as a POV, only to later reveal her as Gabriella.

Another one went a little more into detail about Sabrina and Edmond's little adventure. I thought it could be a cute scene, but ultimately, it took the focus a little from what was truly important in the chapter, so I decided to have Sabrina summarize it for the most part.
