Village Chief Lee's house was next to the bungalow where Wyatt lived. The Village Chief was the fifth oldest at home, so everyone in the village was accustomed to calling him Uncle Thatcher.

Smoke curled up from Uncle Thatcher's chimney, with Aunt Thatcher cooking in the kitchen. Both of her sons were in the yard; she also had an eldest son who was already married. The two in the yard were the second and the youngest child.

The second child, Elijah, attended high school, while the youngest, Spencer, went to Nursery School, in the same class as Madeleine.

Elijah was in the yard, playing on his phone.

Spencer held a fish tank in his arms, his little face chubby and fair: "Brother, have you seen Lob Lob?"

Elijah, engrossed in his game, didn't look up: "What Lob Lob?"

"The lobster I'm raising."

Spencer had a pet lobster he named Lob Lob, which he kept in the fish tank. He had been caring for it for three days, changing its water daily and feeding it meat.
