The Grand-Elder smiled a sickening smile, "Very straightforward, I like that. We had reports of a very alarming nature about plans to overthrow our council however it turns out it was baseless rumors. By the time we figured it out, you were already on your way here and we determined it would be best to at least allow you a respite before heading back out to your campaign. We apologize for the inconvenience and will greatly supplement you for your time."
Seriously? I looked up at Baymun and Kovin to see what they thought of this, however they didn't seem too surprised. This bothered me - did they know already that this was a wasted trip? I had my suspicions before that this could be a trap and with this obvious pretense it seemed to be proving true. However if it were a trap, then Baymun and Kovin wouldn't have willingly allowed themselves to enter it, would they? Unless they were in on it themselves . . . No - Baymun might be a horrible deceptive killer, but Kovin and I had gone through a lot in the past few months. I know he was still loyal to the demon however I don't think he would do that, would he? Perhaps this was all a case of overthinking again?
Clenching my teeth, I looked directly in Baymun's eyes and asked, "How does your highness feel about this unexpected change of events?"
He didn't even bother to look like he cared and said calmly, "I'm only here to observe, nothing more."
Not expecting anything else from the demon, I looked back at the Grand-Elder, "With such insistentance to get us here, there has to be something else your Elders expected from this meeting?"
The Grand-Elder gave a quick look to Baymun, visibly swallowed then continued, "We really just wanted to meet you. The fact that you are a woman," The way he said woman made me shiver from disgust, "leading the Bodach army is a historical milestone that we just had to make our presence known and humbly offer you to immerse in our culture. We want to be a part of this monumental time and significant change."
I wasn't sure if I believed this or not, so I looked to my left at Richie standing diagonally behind me. He shrugged his shoulders so I leaned back in my seat and took a sip of wine, "Well we're already here - Begin the immersing."
Grand-Elder Horace smiled a greedy slimy smile and clapped his hands. The dancers at the podium changed to a group of exotic looking women, each significantly beautiful in her own right. They were all dressed in the same red ribbon that they wanted me to wear (which I was right) covered nearly nothing. I heard Richie inhale sharply behind me and I couldn't help but bite my lip to stave off a laugh. It'd been a minute since Rich had met eligible women, or any woman other than myself, so he had to be feeling the effects. I noticed that the ladies had a similar effect to Kovin as well, but Baymun barely gave them a glance. Perhaps he wasn't into women in general? That would explain how he could cause my race to suffer inexplicably without a care to the burden it could have on a now woman-only society.
One of the more beautiful women came forward to stand beside Horace and placed a hand on his left shoulder. Horace introduced her as Lady Quaiv, their most treasured beauty. Quaiv gave me a breathtaking smile, "I am pleased to make your acquaintance Lady Ezran. I have heard so much about your prowess in battle that is unmatched solely by your beauty. Clearly the claims have not been exaggerated."
I couldn't help but blush slightly from such a gracious compliment by an attractive looking female. I had never received that type of compliment among my sisters and mothers; if anything they would tell me that I was rather plain.
I coughed a little and shook my head slightly, "That is very kind of you, although I believe you're quite mistaken. My prowess is not that impressive, my looks even less so in comparison to one such as yourself." I leaned in a little and with a lower voice I said, "I mean seriously, if you stand here much longer I'm sure my manservant will have his nose bleeding in mere moments."
We both chanced a glance at Richie who happened to look up at that moment blushing and straightened the front of his tunic.
Quaiv giggled prettily and sighed, "You are definitely a breath of fresh air. We could always use a little of that around here, right Horace?"
Horace eyed me, "Certainly." He tapped Quaiv's hand and whispered something in her ear. Quaiv bowed deeply to me, revealing a little more than I cared to see, then made her way back to the other girls. A sensual song began to play from a small troupe off in the corner as the ladies began an intricate dance. All the men looked on in rapture . . . except for the ever stoic Baymun and the odd Grand-Elder. Horace settled back in his seat and placed his hands one over the other, "So Lady Ezran I here you are from Eurosia?"
My jaw clenched and the mention of my birthland's name with the demon so close by. I couldn't help but remember our fate was due to him, "Yes I am."
"What a wonderful race your women are. I've been there a few times myself. Such an intricate culture."
Where in hellfire was this man going with this? I was immediately on guard, "How so?"
"There was a woman there that I greatly admired - I forget her name but she was a doxie no? I wonder if you were in the same line of business?"
'He knows about the doxies . . .' This man just got a little more pervier than I initially thought. "I'm sorry but I never followed in that line."
His gray greedy eyes narrowed, "Such a pity. I'm sure I would have gladly paid untold amounts for your initiation."
I nearly barfed in my mouth. At that moment a new song floated through the room and I sharply glanced back at Richie. His bright blue eyes were wide with alarm as he turned his attention back to the podium. I looked up and the women began dancing that intricate dance I knew so well.
Horace leaned forward near my ear and whispered, "Such a delight to view gorgeous women dancing such a cultural tradition - I thought you would like a little familiarity. Perhaps you could grace us with a few movements yourself?"
