DXD OC Chapter 12: First Real Subordinate
A smile blossomed on Kaida's face seeing how easily the assassin killed the mobs. He wasn't an idiot who would blindly trust her and let his guard down. So he had taken precautions so she wouldn't backstab; it's her specialty, after all!
It was pretty easy, especially after gaining Blood Magic from the essence. So all he did was for a drop of blood from him to create a ruby orb of crystallized blood and asked her to 'guard' his 'treasure.'
The ruby orb of crystallized blood, which he created, binds the bloodline of anyone whose blood touches the orb to you and your line, making them unable to betray you and allow you to control and manipulate them however you want.
So when she touched it, it activated. Still, he didn't suddenly install loyalty; when the crystal breaks, any forced feeling would also break. So all he did was the thought of backstabbing would be replaced with 'Why does he know so much? Is he an oracle?'
A woman's curiosity sometimes can be referred to as the "Curiosity of a cat," so with her curiosity towards him, she would become interested in talking more and be interested in him, maybe also think of ways to gain favor.
Even when the crystal was placed in his <Inventory> where nobody could touch it, he also kept her injured, only healing her slowly through the herbs they found in the wild. Thus more time for their relationship to grow.
'When did I become a scheming bastard?' Kaida said while looking at himself.
But still, if this plan succeeded... It would be amazing. A woman who was willing to do anything, even sacrifice herself, just to get close to him, and He will have a powerful assassin whose dragger was enchanted even to kill even an immortal being under his control! That will make people tremble. With her on her side, then it would be possible to rule over the entire continent!
'Muahahaha'
Turning around, he noticed the assassin staring at his world, and looking around, he saw even Torrent shaking its head, giving him a pitiful gaze.
"Oi, what's with that look?" Kaida questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"You have been staring at the grace for the past few minutes while nodding your head with a twisted grin."
Hearing the assassin's monotone answer made his lips twitch. It seemed living a lonely life for a long time made him weird.
"So, I can't just keep calling you assassin. What is your name?" Kaida questioned, wanting to change the topic.
The assassin was silent for a moment before speaking.
"I am called Azalea."
The assassin looked at the ground, avoiding eye contact as she spoke her name. She seemed embarrassed to say her name to another person for some reason.
"Nice to meet you, Azalea. As you already know, I am Kaida." Kaida smiled at the assassin, who returned a nod.
Azalea didn't seem to be a very talkative person. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, considering that she was an assassin and that she would probably be more useful to him as an ally than an enemy. But, as the saying goes, 'it takes one to know one.' In this case, it might take a while to be able to tell him about herself and her abilities.
"Let's see..." Kaida started, thinking of a topic to start with. "What is your power?"
She tilted her head, thinking about her response, and finally said, "My power? Well, let's see... I have the ability to introduce death, even to an immortal. My draggers are enchanted; just a cut from it will never heal unless I want it to. So that should give you an idea of my power. What are your abilities?"
Kaido smiled, knowing that Azalea hid many things and only asked him to know about his weaknesses for the future.
"Well, I have the power to summon holy nails, which let me paralyze as well as resurrect dead as undead beings."
Azalea nodded, saying, "Oh yeah, that's pretty cool. You can use it in a battle against the other."
"Yeah, but my favorite is using it to help people. It's kind of like a gift from god, letting me fight back the undead. Not everyone believes in the existence of god, so they can't accept that."
Azalea looked at him with a blank expression. "That is a big ugly lie."
Kaida laughed, "Yes, hahaha!"
***
During the three days, Kaida didn't explore more catacombs, or dungeons, as Azalea was training him. Which not only made his confidence build up but also crushed what little arrogance he had. She was a real menace during her training, and if it wasn't for his Crimson Tears, he was sure he would be walking around limbless.
He was now fully aware of his own weakness. He lacks skills and his inability to defend himself, but what he didn't lack is potential and information about the world. During his last life, he always felt an itch when he found out Marika married Radagon, who was the same person, just a different gender.
It truly frustrated him when he found out Godfrey got cucked so badly and still returned like a loyal dog to defend after being cast out. To say, he watched more lore videos than he could count. But gameplay knowledge-wise? He was very poor.
He was eager to learn more, and to show off his new skills, so he decided to take on the challenge of the Stromveil Castle before he left. Yes, he was planning to fight Godrick The Grafted.
"Good luck. I will be watching you." Azalea said since she was a living being, she could pass through the golden fog with him. Though her answer brought him some warmth, he still hadn't forgotten about his inability to defeat Margit.
It was time to see if he could get rid of the stain on his back.
Passing through the fog, he was immediately greeted by a large man caressing a dead dragon's head. For an unknown reason, he felt a pang of pain in his chest seeing the dead dragon. The entire area looked like a graveyard, with bodies littered everywhere.
"Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir.
Lend me thy strength, o kindred.
Deliver me unto greater heights.
...Well.
A lowly Tarnished, playing as a lord.
I command thee, kneel!"
Kaido's hand immediately reached towards his waist, but his hand froze as he took his head, thinking, 'No spirits. I should finish by myself.'
Taking his Uchigatana and summoning his gauntlet, he immediately rushed toward the Godrick, who had multiple hands behind his back. Kaida knew with Godrick's speed and wind attacks, playing passively will only result in a quick death. So he must move nimble, and strike fast, then retreat. But first, he must figure out where his blind spots are.
Godrick suddenly moved to the side, his massive battleax fell in front of Kaida. "Ha! You can't even lift a sword, and that's supposed to be my weakest attack?" He mocked.
Kaida controlled his trembling arms and struck with the hilt of his sword. However, Godrick parried it with the pole of his battle axe. "You think that's gonna work?" He taunted and swung around his battleax with full force. "Hahaha, you're not even worth the effort to kill."
Kaida dodged the blow with a leap backward. His heart was beating hard as he realized how close he had come to dying. He had to focus on defense now.
Godrick laughed, "That's right, run away. That's what cowards do, isn't it? Run away when they know they'll lose."
Godrick charged at him again, this time swinging his axe in a wide arc. Kaida jumped over it, then rolled under it, and then quickly lunged forward and stabbed him in the stomach with his katana.
"Guhh..." Godrick grunted and stumbled back a step.
Godrick's next swing was aimed at his head. Kaida ducked, and the ax pierced the ground, causing a small shockwave. He could hear Godrick's laughter echoing through the battlefield. He wasn't sure if that was meant to be mocking him or just because of the sound of the blade hitting the ground.
The two continued their mock combat, and sparks flew off the metal of both weapons. Godrick was constantly moving, swinging, creating winds, and attacking with his weapons. After several minutes, Godrick finally landed an attack on Kaida. His battle axe came down on Kaida's shoulder. "Yah!" He cried out in pain, dropping his weapon. "That's what you get for not knowing how to use your sword properly."
Godrick swung his axe in a wide arc, which was blocked by Kaida's gauntlet, yet it didn't stop his bones inside from being completely shattered.
Godrick chuckled, "Well, well...you're pretty good for a nobody. Maybe I should give you something after all. I've been thinking of making myself a new arm. Are you ready for grafting?" Godrick mocked him, holding up his axe, ready to cut off Kaida's arm.
Kaida felt fear grip his heart, he pushed his body to jump away, but he knew he was too slow. Just as he waited for the pain, a red arc of energy launched towards Godrick, who was barely to raise his arm but it sent him flying away.
"It seems you have been careless." A cold voice echoed from behind.
Kaida gritted his teeth; he was saved again! This time it was none other than his own servant.
Godrick stood up, looking furious, with a missing arm. Never-ending blood was constantly gushing out his arm "AAAAAHHHHH!!" he screamed. His face was twisted into a pure rage, and his eyes were filled with hate. "What is this?! How dare you interrupt my duel?!"
Kaido widened his eyes and immediately ducked his head as Godrick threw his axe aimed at his head. The axe pierced the ground behind him, creating a small crater and causing a shockwave.
"Ahh, truest of dragons.
Lend me thy strength…
Nnngh!
Forefathers, one and all…
Bear witness!"
His eyes immediately locked towards Godrick, ripped around the dragon's head, and attached it to his arms. Kaido cursed himself for missing this opportunity; he had planned to get a free hit when Godrick went to the second phase leaving himself open. But all he could now is chug his flask and let his wounds heal.
With the flames gushing off his dragon arm, Godrick was making his way toward him.
"This is far enough, you worthless scum! Relinquish yourself so that we can be done with this!"
There is no way Kaida would just sit and wait. Using his dexterity, he jumped over a few graves, boosting himself over Godrick.
'This guy has a turning radius of a truck!'
His eyes were locked on the axe which was being picked by Godrick. The axe was swinging around, and he could see the reflection of the flames.
Godrick's axe was burning hot.
It was a flame-imbued axe.
'Well, fight fire with fire!' Kaido thought.
Godrick swiftly raised his axe overhead, ready for a powerful downward strike. Before he could bring the axe down, Kaido brought his sword down, slashing at Godrick. It was an opening, but it wouldn't last long. As Godrick swung his axe horizontally, Kaido leaped into the air, avoiding the attack but landing directly into the path of the axe's downward swing.
As he expected, Godrick didn't slow down. His axe crashed into the earth below him, sending up a cloud of dust but also creating enough momentum to send Kaido flying into a nearby.
But it gave enough distance for Kaido to take a deep breath as he sheathed his katana, holding it at the hip in a composed stance.
With his purple eyes flaring in determination towards Godrick, Kaido kicked off the ground, leaped high into the air, and then slashed down on the tip of his katana. He saw that Godrick's head was exposed as he swung the axe, so he decided to use that as an opportunity.
The edge of the blade hit the head of the axe, and the two weapons collided with a loud bang. The sound echoed in the distance.
Godrick's slightly stumbled back, which caught him completely by surprise. He was still trying to regain control of his axe when he realized that the Tarnished hand was emitting black flames.
"Black Flame!"
─ Spell Casted!
─ Black Flame: Spell
─ Description: "Throws a ball of raging black fire, so potent to burn a god. Charging enhances potency and causes the fireball to explode."
─ Effect: Deals fire damage on the initial impact, then applies a black flame effect to enemies that deals 2-5% of their total health over 2 seconds. The initial damage is improved with Incant Scaling, but the damage-over-time effect cannot be improved. Charging the spell increases the initial fire damage and also causes the fireball to explode on impact, potentially hitting more than one enemy or hitting an enemy that you would otherwise have missed.
─ Cost: 18 FP & 25 SP
Godrick screamed as his body was engulfed in flames, but he didn't falter or stop. His body continued to burn as he kept pushing back the sword, and the flames spread to his hair, clothing, and armor. Godrick raised his dragon head as he knew Kaido was going to try to attack his head again, and Godrick wasn't about to let that happen. He raised his dragon arm, and flames shot forward and rose up into Kaido's face.
"Ngh!"
But Kaido didn't care about his burning face; his gaze was focused solely on Godrick's neck. He wanted to rip it open with the force of his hands, and then tear it apart. Kaido's eyes glowed red, and the veins on his forehead bulged. He screamed as his blade slid down the axe, ready for a counterattack. He had no intention of stopping until he'd torn the head from Godrick's shoulders.
Kaido's katana sliced through the gap between his arms and cut deeply into Godrick's neck.
"AHHH!"
Godrick's scream was cut off abruptly by the sudden pain. His body was thrown backward by the force of the blow. The flames in his hair were extinguished instantly, and his clothes burned away. His skin was charred and blistered.
Blood dripped from the wound in his neck, but Godfrey refused to give in. Even as he was being attacked by the Tarnished, he was still trying to defend himself.
The flames in his right hand flared brightly, and he thrust the flaming palm toward Kaido's chest, sending out a shockwave of fire that enveloped Kaido.
"Guh...gaah..."
Kaida felt like he was drowning. He couldn't breathe--the heat and smoke from the flames had seared his throat. He desperately tried to hold his breath, but it only made it worse--his lungs started to hurt, and his vision grew dim. Kaido fell to his knees and then collapsed onto the ground.
"Ahh...ahh...aahhh..."
But he wasn't ready to give up, as his entire body was covered in flames, he still wasn't going to give up.
'Please use me, master.' An ominous voice, which sounded like the growling of a beast, traveled to his ears. He was familiar with the voice, even when it was filled with rage.
All of sudden, he felt a strange yet powerful feeling travel through his body, the blood on the ground began to tremble as it crawled towards him, and the flames around him flared. The yellow color turned red, which coated around him like a cocoon.
'Use my fire, master. And BURN HIM TO DUST!'
"Dragonfyre!!!"

A/N: If you are fuming at what I did, just think about the fight with Soldier of Gorick... then Morgott... and finally Godrick. Isn't he... improvising? Just give him some time, lol.
Random reader: "I hate MCs that have plot armor!"
MC without plot armor? Pfft! Good joke, buddy.
