Kapitel 66: Chapter 66: Life (2)

But the obvious injuries aside and her terror-striking posture, something else caught his attention. Something that was even more thought-provoking to him than the death of a little girl.

'Why does she have a tail?'

He looked at the long black thing sticking out from her skirt. His brows forrowed in confusion. Of course, the first thing he thought was that the tail was a fake. He thought it to be some sort of costume prop.

But other than the black tail near her legs, something else was not as it should be.

Her face.

The girl had dark brown skin, similar to his, but her nose was a light pink and was shaped strikingly similar to a cat's. From her torn-open eyes, the young man could see her yellow iris, which occupied at least 90 percent of her eyes. Close to her short black hair were a pair of pointy ears.

Although the girl had had such a terrifying accident, none of these 'props' had fallen or detached. All of them stayed in their rightful place. Almost as if they were hanging on to proclaim their authenticity.

But after looking for a minute, something felt weird to the young man.

'Nobody seems to be commenting on these weird features of hers... Are they purposely avoiding them?'

Although many people were either shouting or trying to see if she could be saved, not one single person seems to have said something like, 'What is she like like that?' Or 'Is that a cat girl costume?'

'But it's not like I could hear each person's speech.' So the young man decided to let it go. He closed his eyes for a moment and looked at the sky. A nearby police car had already arrived, and The two police officers were going to shoo him and everyone away.

'But for two girls to both die of a car accident in two consecutive days... that's oddly coincidental.'

He opened his eyes and looked at the scene once more, but his eyes widened as he could not believe what was in front of him.

'Where did the girl go?'

Right in front of him, there was no dead body, nor was there a pool of blood. There wasn't even a drop of red on the dark tar road. Looking at the car that was the cause of what had happened, the young man was even more shocked.

The car was perfectly fine. The bent front now looked completely normal. While the tire markings left over from the driver trying to brake had also somehow disappeared. Had he not known better, he would have thought the car had long since been parked there.

But he didn't believe that.

Why?

It was, of course, because all the people who had crowded the road were still there. But as he was just thinking about them, each of them suddenly turned and left. Each going their own way. Not a word about the young girl who just got hit by a car was said.

One person took out his ringing phone and answered a call happily. "Hello, yeah it's me, I'm coming now." The person said as he continued walking down the road.

Another man wearing a suit raised his wrist and looked at his golden watch. His eyes widened as he rushed to hail a taxi. "Damn it, I'm late!"

'It's almost as if... nothing happened. What's going on? Have all these people forgotten about this? If so, then why haven't I?~Ehh!'

crack!

Suddenly, in his thoughts, a sharp pain accompanied by a cracking sound came to his head.

"Ehh~"

The young man groaned as he winced. By the time he opened them, he was the only person on the road while a car honked at him from the side.

...

A week passed.

One that has gotten the young man asking more questions than he believed he could answer. Sitting on his desk, the young man didn't even have the lecturer in his eyes. His mind was still preoccupied by what happened a week ago.

He could not help but get his memories drawn back to that day whenever he had the time to just sit down. This was even more so than when he kept getting all those questions popping up.

This was because what happened last week was the most bizarre occurrence that has ever happened in his life. But it only got more bizarre as he tried to look further into it.

Other than the people who seemed to have forgotten the girl who got hit by the car, no news came up that day about an accident in the streets.

What scared him more was that apparently, that week, there were absolutely no road accidents that happened in the city. This led to the young man thinking of another girl who got hit by a truck on his way to buy groceries.

When he looked it up, it turned out that there was no such thing on the internet. This led the young man to go back to his previous thoughts.

'Are those two girls really the same person?'

It seemed true: two people, both around the same age, got involved in an accident. Both of them died, and no one seems to remember it.

'All but me... grrr'

It was suspicious right? Even more so when his head hurt each time he wondered, 'Why me?' Almost as if there was some sort of trigger in his head preventing him from thinking about it,

So the young man suspected there was something supernatural going on in this world. And somehow, he was connected to it.

That was why, for this past week, the young man has been looking all around the city for any sign of that little girl. Sadly, all his searches yielded no results whatsoever.

It was unknown whether the little girl didn't appear or if she appeared and died after. And since she somehow seems to disappear each time she gets killed, there would be no way to know if she had appeared or not. The young man even suspected that his two previous encounters may have been luck. After all, the city is so large that, with no clue whatsoever to begin with, finding someone like that would be an almost impossible without luck.

The only way to do so was if he could gather large numbers of people to help find her. But how could he when no one believed what he said? Even his best friends wondered if they should admit him to a mental hospital. a cat girl who disappears after she dies? It seems like something a madman would think.

The young man had even doubted himself a few times before. Who knew if all that had happened was just the product of some sort of Illness in his head? After all, the pain in his head was real.

But in the end, he knew what he had seen. And he knew this was no lie. But the problem was that even if he believed it to be true, it was all for naught if he couldn't find her.

'When will Lady Luck grace me with a flash of her pan...?

The young man's thoughts abruptly came to an end. His eyes widened as he looked through the window. And there he saw her. Right past the park is where he usually spends his time. She walked through the streets as though she had not a bit of care if she was to be hit or not.

If I found her!" The young man shouted subconsciously. The whole class turned to look at him. But he didn't care. Leaving his bag, the young man jumped through the tables as quickly as he could. By doing so, he had not only invoked the wrath of those he had accidentally stepped on but also the lecturer who had just had his class interrupted.

Still, he did not stop. This time, he could not lose her; he had to know!
