26.66% Dual Reincarnation: The Main Villain is ME! / Chapter 8: Rebirth

Kapitel 8: Rebirth

They were finally making progress, the baby was coming out! One midwife stood by the side of the mother giving words of encouragement while a rather stern old woman yelled out instructions to the rest of them and even to the mistress herself. She was one of the oldest and well respected workers in the clan so they did not find it strange that she could raise her voice at the woman.

It didn't take long, as though they were just waiting for the opportune time the first baby was born and not even a second later the second boy was followed.

After delivery Aliana was barely able to remain conscious, she was completely drained and all her body wanted was a good long rest but not until she had seen her sons. The senior midwife walked up to her, a bright smile on her face and one child in each hand.

Her hands were too weak to carry them so the old senior caretaker simply placed them on her thighs and she cradled them in her hands. Relieved, all the tension from the past week suddenly came up on her at once. Her head fell backwards to the pillow behind her as she fell asleep, the two babies still in her arms.

Maybe they were too tired to notice or maybe because of the blood that was smeared all over their bodies they thought it was nothing, but on the face of the two newborns there was a solitary tear running down, even as their eyes were still closed.

***

A man in his late twenties was confidently walking in the hallway of the estate. Behind him was a group of people that formed his cohort, presumably his guards as well as elders of the clan walking elegantly.

Any group of people he passed immediately went quiet, their heads bowed as they walked by them, leaving the area silent, save for the sound of his footsteps that resonated through the halls.

This man was none other than the clan head.

Although his wife had just given birth he was still in no hurry to get to her, he moved gracefully, intent in every step. After all, this was the only possible outcome. His wife was strong, there was no way something as trivial as birth was going to put her down.

Although at some point he was beginning to get nervous himself, even his first born Arlder who had shown exponential talent did not manifest such strange signs before birth. The rain that was thundering outside, the strange amount of psyia that surrounded her womb and the unshaking moon were all signs of something great that was to come! He could feel it in his veins, the moon clan was about to take another huge leap to greatness.

The babies as well as their mother were properly cleaned and we're now lying in warm soft linen. They had been moved to a new room as well so that Aliana and her children could rest peacefully without the uncomfortable scent of blood and sweat filling the air.

Aliana herself was still asleep and it was suspected that she would be for a long time and the children themselves were yet to open their eyes.

The door to the room gently swayed open, the person at the other side careful not to wake his sleeping wife or babies stepped into the room carefully. Immediately he entered the room the gentle air suddenly hung still, an air of perfection suddenly permeating the area.

Everyone in the room paled, everyone was shifting to adjust anything they felt was ill fit as much as they could without being noticed, those holding trays held them firmly while those attending to the mother froze checking if they had made any errors.

The only person who did not have a strange reaction to his presence was the senior caretaker who smiled as he entered the room, after all she was already working in the clan when he was but a boy.

But everyone else apart from his own cohort kept their head bowed as he walked towards the children. When he finally stood right next to the children he took a good look at them, he was not just here to see the newborns. His secondary assignment was to find out how much potential the twins had. After all the display they had to at least be worth something.

At first glance he noticed nothing really special about the children, when the had Arlder he was already brimming with psyia but the amount of psyia that was coming out of them was average at best. Was it because as twins they took from the same pool?

Psyia was a form of energy that every living thing possessed, from sentient creatures down to plants and even animals, psyia was invaluable. Although everyone possessed some level of psyia, not everyone could freely manipulate it.

The special few who could control their psyia were trained as Venators, the highest ranked warriors in the country.

And for those special few having a large pool to draw from was key to being a very powerful Venator.

He waved his hand forward and an old man came to his side carrying a box. The box was small, only about the size of the man's hand. It had beautiful golden patterns carefully engraved on it, swirling wires of pure gold depicting the flow of psyia were all moving toward a golden moon, the emblem of their clan.

Normal people in the room couldn't see it but those with higher sensitivity to psyia could feel a high concentration of psyia on the box. The box was actually no ordinary box, it was actually used to hold one of the moon clans unique artifacts. The eye of the moon.

The clan leader gently opened the box and took out a pair of gold rimmed ornately designed spectacles and put them on. These glasses had multiple uses but one of them was the ability to see in detail how much psyia someone possessed as well as his innate potential. Nothing could hide from it.

He took both children in his arms and stared at them, activating the enchantment.

After a few seconds to the lookers nothing seemed to change but then he suddenly palled and took a step backwards stretching his arms forward as though he wanted to be as far away from the children as possible. His eyes were moving around as though he was seeing something everyone else in the room could not see.

His voice came, a mix of anger, sadness and a tiny hint of fear.

"What sort of evil is this?"

Suddenly his psyia flared up causing everyone in the room to almost buckle under the oppressive aura, his muscles tensed up as his eyes roamed around the room.

And then just as suddenly as it had come, the oppressive aura was gone.

The senior caretaker quickly rushed forward to take the twins from his hand before he could drop them, utterly confused about what had just happened.

The clan leader offered no explanation, he simply took off the glasses and gave the children one more cautious glance.

This time four highly intelligent sapphire blue eyes stared back. In one of the children's eyes he saw intense anguish and sorrow, in the other he saw almost palpable brimming rage.

Those were not the eyes of children.

But what had caused him to react that way was not those eyes, it was what he had seen through the eyes of the moon.

That was the last time he willingly came to see the twins.

There was one simple question in the minds of everyone that witnessed what had happened.

What had he seen?
