Kapitel 46: Chapter 46: Slope City

After witnessing the golden-eyed boy's overwhelming strength and beast-like vigilance, the middle-aged man realized there was no way he and his nephew could escape.

So, instead of running, he threw himself to the ground and knelt.

The middle-aged man hoped this gesture would earn the boy's goodwill—or at the very least, prevent him from treating them like that bear, whose skull he had shattered with his fists while laughing wildly atop it.

This golden-eyed kid, riding on the bear's back while punching it and laughing… "Isn't he a lunatic?" He thought.

"We're not bad people…"

Clinging to his nephew, the man knelt down, raising his hands in surrender, his desire to live evident.

They were deep in the wilderness, far from their remote village, which was already dozens of kilometers away. The village itself was another hundred kilometers from Slope City, which wasn't even a large settlement. In this isolated area, any crime would go unnoticed unless someone reported it.

If they were killed here, they'd die in vain, their corpses left to rot.

However, the reaction of the golden-eyed boy—Yamiru—shocked the man.

When Yamiru spotted the two of them, he felt a wave of relief.

Finally, other people!

Yamiru jumped off the bear's corpse, darting toward them, and grabbed one of the middle-aged man's raised hands. He clasped it tightly and shook it enthusiastically.

The middle-aged man froze at the sight of the boy's intense expression, his lips pressed together as if unable to find the words to speak.

Meanwhile, Yamiru's energetic handshaking, due to the height difference, made the man a little dizzy.

"Is he insane?" the nephew thought, kneeling obediently with his hands raised.

Suddenly, Yamiru's expression shifted. He stopped shaking the man's hand and asked, "The trap in the forest, along with the sign warning about it—those weren't yours, were they?"

'Even if it was me, with that face of yours screaming, "I'll deal with whoever set the trap," do you think I'd admit it?!'

The middle-aged man, seeing Yamiru's less-than-pleasant expression, couldn't help to not scream internally.

But the numbness in his wrist, still firmly gripped by Yamiru, kept him in check.

Even though he wasn't as strong as his missing older brother, he still considered himself a decent hunter with plenty of muscle in his 160-pound frame. Yet this boy had shaken his arm around like a rag doll. Truly, a monster who could beat a bear to death with his bare hands!

Desperately, the man denied, "No, what trap?"

"Don't know, huh? Never mind, then." Yamiru released his hand.

Both the man and his nephew heaved a sigh of relief.

Yamiru quietly let out a breath of relief, too.

Actually, seeing the wary expressions of the middle-aged man and the boy beside him, Yamiru felt a bit embarrassed.

At first, he had only wanted to exaggerate his excitement a little, performing a show of enthusiasm after stumbling through the forest for five days and finally encountering living people.

What a simple idea that was.

But unexpectedly, his extraordinary physique and the lingering fierce aura from his time in the forest, combined with his beast-like speed as he rushed toward them, seemed to have scared the pair out of their wits. Thankfully, Yamiru's current strength was only at a "combat level 10," or the duo might have been frightened to death outright if he had power exceeding 100.

Yamiru sighed internally. This wasn't the image he wanted to project!

"Come on, just because I killed an innocent fat bear with my bare hands, does that mean these two have to be this scared?" Yamiru thought indignantly. This is too much!

"Don't be afraid. I'm not a bad guy," Yamiru said, trying his best to smile warmly. However, as he grinned, he felt an itch in his gums.

He clicked his tongue, annoyed, realizing his tongue couldn't dislodge whatever was stuck between his teeth.

Raising his hand, he gestured for the man and boy to wait a moment.

Using his fingernail, Yamiru dug at his gums until he finally removed the offending piece—a strip of meat.

The middle-aged man held his breath.

The meat strip this golden-eyed boy pulled from his teeth… why does it still have blood on it? Is he eating raw meat?!

Yamiru flicked away the half-cooked piece of roasted... something and explained, "Ah, you know, limited conditions! I was starving, and, well, I got a bit impatient when I ate. Didn't realize the meat wasn't fully cooked until after I started chewing…"

The kneeling boy immediately shuffled on his knees, using rapid, small movements to hide behind his uncle, leaving only one eye exposed to cautiously peek at Yamiru.

The middle-aged man, too, couldn't hide his uneasy expression as he tried to suppress it.

Here was a kid, barely a teenager, draped in animal hides, emerging from a perilous forest after smashing a bear's skull. On top of that, he didn't seem to mind eating raw meat. How could someone like this not be dangerous?

Yamiru was at a loss for words.

Why were they so scared of him? Did he really look like some kind of bully who enjoyed intimidating people?

Yamiru had no intention of being that kind of person, nor did he want to leave that impression. Even if he starved to death or died of thirst on his journey, there was no way he'd become... that guy. It was way beneath him.

But how could he salvage the situation now?

If he suddenly acted all polite and refined, wouldn't they just think he was manipulative and even more terrifying?

In the end, they naturally managed to clear up the misunderstanding.

After all, humans are creatures capable of communication and understanding.

Yamiru resorted to the usual tactics of a transmigrator, spinning a story to deceive the pair. He claimed he had gotten lost by the seaside and had lost his memory. When he woke up on a beach, he had no idea where he was. All he had was a pair of shorts and a map with markings on it. Using what little common sense he could recall, he made up a name for himself: Yamiru. As for why his eyes glowed or why he was so strong, he claimed complete ignorance.

Yamiru privately reflected that, apart from the amnesia part being a lie, everything else was pretty much the truth!

"How pitiful..." Whether it was because Dragon Ball Earthlings were inherently more gullible or the folks in this remote countryside were particularly naive, the duo believed everything Yamiru said without question.

The younger boy even seemed a little envious of Yamiru. "I wish I had lost my memory too. Then I'd be as strong as you, and I could bring my dad and sister back!"

"Amnesia and super strength… aren't exactly related," the middle-aged man muttered, feeling a bit embarrassed by his nephew's naivete.

Yamiru added that he had been wandering aimlessly in the forest for several days and had only just managed to find his way out. He asked if the middle-aged man could help him locate their current position on his map and point out the direction of the circled location. As a token of gratitude, he offered the bear he had just killed. Lastly, he asked what the boy meant about bringing his dad and sister back.

Since Yamiru turned out not to be some forest-dwelling wild man or a human-shaped beast, the middle-aged man was more than willing to help.

"We're roughly… here!"

The map was spread across the platform of a trailer hitched to a pickup truck outside the forest. The middle-aged man quickly pointed to a spot on the map for Yamiru.

When Yamiru looked, the man's finger was on a spot along the southern coastline of the main continent.

Shifting his gaze downward, he saw the vast expanse of ocean and, on the opposite shore, Papaya Island—where he had participated in the World Martial Arts Tournament just a few days earlier.

"That old man really did slap me all the way to the northern continent!" Yamiru thought.

Well, at least I saved on the cost of a boat ride.

"As for the circled location…" The man looked around, then pointed in a direction. "It's over there, roughly to the northeast."

Yamiru lifted his head and gazed into the distance. There appeared to be the faint silhouette of mountains.

"But if you want a more precise location or to hire a long-distance vehicle, going to the nearest city, Slope City, might be a better option," the man suggested. He looked back down at the map, pointing to a spot slightly northwest of their current location along the southern coastline. His finger then moved northward, stopping at the nearest marked city. Tapping it, he said, "That's Slope City, and it's about 200 kilometers from where we are now."
