I sat in the tall grass bed of the peaceful meadow. My back was against a tree and on my face was a dark expression.
The strange book that had taken me days to open was laid bare before the sunlight, its contents glistening with black ink like a forbidden cipher.
"Damnit...", I cursed under my breath as I recalled the events from an hour ago.
...
"EUREKA!"
I exclaimed with profound joy as the once elusive book finally popped open. A bright grin made its way to my face as I laughed whole-heartedly.
"Yes, yes! I am him after all! This book stood no chance."
Take a look at him, glazing himself.
Shut up and let me bask in this victory!
"Haha! Ayanogoat ain't pulling this one.", I spoke sarcastically as I fell back on the grass, facing upwards.
"Hahaha!"
Read the damn book already!
My inner voice screamed in annoyance.
An annoyed expression made its way to my face as I clicked my tongue, "Whatever!"
Strangely, it seemed that I derived more joy from solving the book's mechanism rather than actually knowing what was in the book.
Humans were perverse like that.
With a sigh, I icked up the book and raised it to my eye-level.
The instant I read it, I cried out, "What in tarnation?!"
The contents of the book were written in a strange text.
"Oh God...no..."
Don't tell me I'll have to solve this one too?!
Fortunately, I didn't because in that moment the system announced.
[Activating Language Translator Pack...]
[You have gained a Skill: Thousand Tongues]
[Skills:] Oversaturation, Memory Palace, Echolocation, Art of Learning, Ambidexterity, Battle Arts, Anti-Lip Sync, Invisibility, Manipulation, Technical Knowledge (depreciated), Pickpocket, Panoramic Vision, Dexterity, Resistance, Fear Inducement, Thousand Tongues
[Skill:] Thousand Tongues: Thousand Tongues grants mastery over all forms of communication, allowing the user to speak, understand, and manipulate any language. Words become tools to charm, deceive, or command, bridging divides or sowing discord with unparalleled eloquence. This skill lets the user understand and speak any language whether written or unwritten.
What the fuck?!
This skill is broken!
I widened my eyes as I read the skill description but then a wistful expression soon replaced it.
Too bad I can't take any of these skills back to the real world.
Bold of you to assume that!
I shook my head at my inner voice and then turned to the book.
[Skill: Thousand Tongues has been activated.]
Soon after the system announced the skill's activation, something strange happened.
"What?", I exclaimed as I stared at the book.
The contents of the book which was once indefinable suddenly became understandable.
"I can read it."
I gasped as I slowly began to read the first page of the book.
Journal Entry – 22nd Day of Forge Moon, Year 1187
The lord's tower nears completion, though the masons grumble about the weight of the new keystones. The design holds; I have checked the arch calculations twice, but the laborers fear what they don't understand. Still, I reassured them—the mathematics do not lie. It will stand long after we are gone.
At midday, I inspected the water wheel repairs. The miller claims the flow is too weak, but I suspect his paddles are poorly angled. If I can convince him to follow my new design, efficiency could double. Yet, convincing the stubborn is harder than crafting a proper gear.
Evening brought a welcome sight—parchments from the royal library, sent by a traveling scholar. Within are sketches of a strange device called a "crane." If the drawings are accurate, it could lift the heavy stone blocks faster than a team of oxen. I must study it further by candlelight tonight.
This work is my legacy, each stone and beam a testament to ingenuity. Perhaps one day, they will not only remember the lords who commissioned these works but also the minds that built them.

The instant I finished reading the first page, a thought came to mind.
"He's British!"
Seriously?! That's the first thing that comes to mind?!
My inner voice exclaimed, incredulous.
Wait...you're not...raci-
Of course not! Am just surprised, fool!
Oh...good...good...
I shook my head at my inner voice and turned back to the text.
All jokes aside, this text means one thing...
I grinned and said, "There are humans in this world!"
I smiled but then sighed, "That's actually obvious though...I mean those skeletons were the remains of the dead...", I raised a hand to my right eye as I remembered the skeleton monsters.
Am glad am alive...
I smiled softly as I looked down, basking in the calmness of the scene but my inner voice wasn't having it.
Cut the bs, and read the damn book! Remember you still haven't gone to that bloody cave, you bastard!
"Ugh...", I winced at my inner voice before staring off to the distance, the cave was waiting for me at the end of my line of sight. The jagged hole in the mountain chain seemed to devour all light that reached it, beckoning me to its appalling maul.
I stared at it for minutes before looking down at the book, "Am wasting time."
I steeled myself and continued to read. Reading entry after entry until I reached what seemed to be the last.
Journal Entry – 3rd Day of Harvest Moon, Year 1203
Today, I closed my workshop for the final time. The tools that once felt like extensions of my own hands now seem heavy; their edges dulled from years of use. The draft table, worn smooth by countless plans and sketches, will gather dust now. I suppose there is a time when even the sharpest chisel must rest.
The aqueduct stands, its water flowing clear and strong. The mill wheel I repaired still turns, though its creaks tell me it may need new paddles soon. The lord's tower reaches high above the village, casting its shadow across the land. These works will outlast me, as they should.
A younger man approached me this morning, eager to learn. He held my old compass and straightedge with reverence, as if they were relics. I gave him my journals and told him to improve upon my mistakes. It is a strange feeling, knowing that my legacy now rests in hands I hardly know.
Marta says I should spend my days in the garden now, watching things grow instead of building. Perhaps she's right but my heart yearns the thrill of adventure.
Maybe, I would embark on a journey to that rumored place, the Wyvern Mountain, who knows I might find something that fills my heart there.

I let out a sigh as I finished reading the last of the lines of the entry.
I've gained answers...but I have many questions as well...
"Wait, let's take things slowly...", I muttered and then closed my eyes, "What do I know now?"
"This world is based off on both fantasy and medieval themes...but it seems that the land...Galter lived in, doesn't know magic...", I said as I brought a hand to my chin.
I may be wrong though...just maybe...its forbidden to be practiced...
I grinned at that thought. The thought of knowing something that laid at the edge of society always filled me with a dark glee.
I turned back to the book and opened the next page, expecting to see another journal entry.
"What the fuck-?!"
The moment I laid eyes on the next page, a strong primal fear gripped my heart.

I glanced at the unchanging screen of my stats panel before dismissing it with a shrug. The damn thing seemed to be just for show anyway.
Oh well...we are playtesting...it probably needs some fixes...
I shrugged and then ran a hand through my black soaked hair. I was sporting a pair of white underwear shorts, having discarded my uniform completely.
Strangely enough, I didn't feel embarrassed but instead, I just felt so at peace.
Currently, I was seating on the shore of the tranquil lake that I had found a few hours ago; my feet were touching the water sending slight ripples through it which each movement.
A few hours ago...right? Yeah, right! Right!
I nodded my head to affirm the thought and then turned to the surface of the vast lake, the waterfall was roaring quietly in the distance.
All 25 of my classmates, I excluded, where inside it. Some were playing in it; some were chilling while some were engaging in questionable activities but I didn't seem too bothered.
Doesn't matter, we are technically on vacation.
I glanced over to my girlfriend, Kansola, she seemed to be playing with her friends. They were excited, playing around the lake and splashing droplets of water in various directions.
As I watched them, I noticed something.
Wow...was water always like that...?
It seemed that even though water splashed in a certain position, the lake still appeared tranquil; no ripple could cause the lake to lose its calm.
Must be a glitch in the game...or maybe its because I just haven't been to the beach in awhile...
I simply ignored that fact, turning away from her and then looking up at the sun.
It seemed hazy for some reason, I lingered for a moment, a hand over my eyes and then turned away with a shrug.
Whatever, it's not good to look at the sun anyway...I could get blind...
And I'd lose my mogging streak...
With a sigh, I rose wanting to leave the lake. I wanted to explore other parts of the woods but then...
I glanced back at the pond; a hint of temptation was present in my eyes.
"Maybe...I can go later..."
With that, I dove into the tranquil surface of the lake once more.
...
"It's still like this...?"

I let out a disappointed sigh when I viewed my status panel. It was pretty much the same as it had been since we came here, which was a few hours ago.
"And here I thought having a system in a fantasy world would be all interesting...", I muttered as I hovered over the lake's tranquil surface.
Well...at least being able to use magic one day is exciting...!
A smile crept to my face.
I was a devoted fan of anime, especially...isekai.
I just always felt exhilarated at the thought of being transported into a different world. I thought that I'd never experience it in my lifetime but alas! It seemed God had other plans.
It's probably for a short time anyway...
I thought wistfully as I took in the breathtaking view of the waterfall descending into the pristine pond.
"So beautiful...", I whispered softly.
"Hmm-Hmm...", I heard a cheeky voice from my side.
I turned around to the source of the voice and was greeted by a plump figure with tan skin dressed in a white singlet and black shorts. Her generous figure was largely exposed due to how wet she was; her sizable chest and supple ass were on display.
It was my beautiful girlfriend, Ayarr, who I had started courting with a month ago.
I took a good look at her and then looked away with a cough, a red tint was evident on my face.
Oh...I forgot her for a sec...
"Ah sorry, I was just admiring the lake...you know...", I spoke in a slightly subdued tone.
"Oh, don't worry it's fine...", she trailed off as her eyes wandered over my body, after a while she bit her lip.
Ayooo?!
Hol'up...it...probably isn't what am thinking...
I gulped and then spoke, "Ayarr...I really have to say that those clothes suit you nicely."
"Oh stop, you've said that before...", she said as she held her face.
I raised an eyebrow.
I did...?
Come to think of it...I've been forgetting things...oh well...must be the anime I bing-watched last night...
I shrugged at the thought and then looked at her, "What do you think about this game, Ayarr?"
She seemed slightly surprised but then shrugged and then said, "Well, I think...it's good..."
She looked down at the surface of the water as if watching her reflection, a small smile was present on her face, "I've never really played VR games before so...I can't really compare..."
Ah, right...I forgot she's a bookworm...
I laughed lightly, closing the gap between us.
She looked at me with a pout, "Why're you laughing?"
"Nothing...", I said as I wrapped my hands around her waist and pulled her closer, my other arm raised her chin so that her face was parallel to mine. I looked down at her lips and then her eyes.
Her face was as red as a tomato and her eyes showed a hint of acceptance but her body seemed to be resisting.
So pure...
In our school, Ayarr was hailed as one of the best students in Kreiss. Excellent grades, excellent character and discipline, she had it all...well...except sports but that's beside the point. She always had her head in her books so...she isn't really knowledgeable about this stuff.
She's very intelligent though, only Vicki and one other person...could match her...
I frowned, who...?
Ayarr who had been waiting for a kiss, stopped when she saw my face. She panicked, "I-is something wrong?"
I pondered for a moment, frowned and then shook my head; a smile replacing my expression.
"No... it's nothing...I was just admiring the lake and your sexy outfit."
She blushed and looked away, "Thank you..."
That 'Thank you...' seemed like she had been awaiting a compliment for a while.

I stared at the interface before me, once again.
Nothing has changed...
I sighed and then dismissed it. I looked around me, the view of my classmates all playing in the pond put me at ease.
Well, at least this water is a solace...
I thought as I took a handful and poured it over my face. The streams of the displaced water, strolled down my face and then down my body; I was currently wearing a white singlet with pink panties, which was rather embarrassing but luckily, Seba came to my rescue earlier.
A red blush made its way to my face and I sunk deeper into the lake, trying to hide my face.
Seba...
The image of Seba's bare body, his skin glistening in the pond, exposed and only coated by a red pair of beach shorts wandered into my mind.
Ugh...I want him...
My heart began to pound faster in my chest as I thought about him, and inadvertently, I begun to swim towards his direction. I kept my head slightly below the water and nimbly made my way towards him.
Strangely, I had gained the ability to swim despite having no collection of having learned this skill.
I shook my head to get rid of the stray thought and crept towards him. My thirst for him seemed to be increasing the closer I got.
Seba! Come to me!
I swam faster to his position, he was currently talking with Dex and Dola, their conversation seemed thrilling.
I swam faster, faster and faster, until...
BWOOSH!
"Ah!"
The sound of rushing water suddenly became louder, leaving me disoriented. I jolted violently and momentarily lost composure but that was all it took...and suddenly I plunged into the depths of the lake.
BURBLE! BURBLE!
Air escaped my mouth as I began to drown in the seemingly tranquil lake.
"H-he-!", my cry for help was drowned by the rushing water and slowly I felt a fear gripping my heart. The fear of death.
I struggled against the current, driven mad by fear. I frantically tore at the water but the lake remained tranquil, refusing to move.
SOMEBODY HELP!
I cried out internally, as I struggled against the unmoving current.
"Mmph! Mmph!! Mmph!!!"
After a while of struggle, a feeling of lethargy slowly began to seep into my mind. My muscles were exhausted and my body began to sink. I fell slowly into the depths of the tranquil lake.
"U-uh..."
As the light of life was vanishing from my body, the reflection of a strange scene at the bottom of the lake reached my retina.
H...u...h?
Before my eyes was the bodies of my classmates, all laying on the bottom of the lake with their eyes closed and a peaceful expression on their faces.
Like they had just seen the ultimate bliss of their lives and then surrendered into a deep slumber.
