Olivia's POV
Michelle and I were under the standing hair dryers, newspapers in hand as we waited for our curls to set.
"Do you really have to go to New York?" She asked with a hint of sadness in her voice. I knew this must have been difficult for her because we've practically bonded over the years.
"Yeah I do, this is a nice business opportunity plus it can also cause me to expand in the states as well."
"Like how long would this take?"
"I'm not sure, but it might take a while. But I promise I'll visit. It's not like I have to stay in New York throughout."
Deep down I know my only reason for going to New York isn't this project. It's time to revisit ghosts from my past.
I don't even know how I would react when I look them in the eyes, especially my own sister who betrayed me.
After a while the stylist comes and takes us out from under the standing hair dryers, and then remove the plastic rollers from our hair.
I can't help but admire this look in the mirror, if anything it makes me look younger. My flight was leaving tomorrow morning, and a small sadness was settling within me knowing that I'd be believing lamb and kids here.
By the time Michelle and I go home it was already even, and our girls night out had come to an end. I opened the door and made my way into the house.
"You look stunning Bianca," Liam said, wearing a proud smile as he looked at me. The kids also showered me with heartwarming compliments.
There were ready to start having dinner, so I joined them. We ate in silence, the thinking of our cutlery making up for the background sound.
I knew they were sad, but then I had to do this. "So when are you leaving?" Skye asked.
"First thing tomorrow morning."
"What? That's too soon!" Lorraine complained.
"I'll be back before you even know it, I promise honey."
She pouted and then folded her arms across her chest. "I want to come with you."
"Me too!" Skye dropped his spoon as well.
I tried to speak but I couldn't come up with the appropriate words, so I just ended up looking between the two of them. Then I looked to Liam for some help.
"You know, the kids are right we should come with you."
This was not what we discussed yesterday night.
"What?" I let out.
"Look, the kids are under summer break and they might as well just come with you."
"Liam it's not-" I froze, I didn't know what to say. "You know I can't bring them to New York."
"Why? Don't you want to be with us?" Lorraine asked.
I forced a weak smile, it's not that honey, "I do want to be with you and your brother but I'm sure you guys also want to be here in France with your friends. Don't you want to spend the summer break with Anna and Roxy?"
"Their cousins are coming over for the summer break so they'll be busy with their family, we wanna be with you mom."
"You realise I'm going to New York to work, right?"
"It'll still be fun."
I sighed, it was hard arguing with Lorraine. "Liam I think we should talk, outside."
He dabbed his lips with a napkin and then got up. We made our way outside. I was staring at the lake when he joined me.
"I don't think it's advisable to take the kids to New York, you know that place isn't safe."
"Precisely why I can't let you go alone."
"So this was your idea?" I turned to face him.
"Yes," he admitted. "You know what happened to you that night, somebody was trying to kill you. I simply can't let you go there all by yourself."
"But Liam I can protect myself now."
"I can't feel that ease if I'm not there with you, and you know we can't leave the kids here all alone. My mansion back in New York would be the best place for all of us to stay, it's safe and secure."
"What about Aiden? What if when he sees the kids…" I trailed off, I couldn't even bring myself to completing the statement.
"He's not their father, you have nothing to worry about."
"You're right."
"Bianca, everything I'm doing is because I love you."
I kissed him deeply, standing on my toes and I pressed my lips against his. "You don't have to say it Liam, I know."
We hugged and stayed like that for a while. By the time we returned into the house Skye and Lorraine were standing there, eyes filled with expectancy.
"So, are we coming?" My son asked. I nodded. The both of them squealed excitedly, and hugged me.
I leaned against Liam's chest as he wrapped his hands around me. It felt a little reassuring knowing that I wouldn't be facing whatever I knew your card in store for me alone, I had my family backing me.
The next morning, we were packing our things and preparing to leave. Liam was helping with taking all the luggages downstairs.
Collins was going to drive us to the airport. "So it's a family vacation now huh?" Michelle remarked as a descended the stairs with my handbag.
"More or less."
She pulled me into a tight embrace, "Be careful okay?"
"I will."
She returned to the house Roxy and Anna while Liam and Collins sat in front of the car. The kids and I sat in the back and Collins drove to the airport.
Last night Liam had booked some flight tickets for all of us, converting mine to first class. I saw it as a waste of money but Liam didn't mind.
After checking in our bags, we went in through the boarding gates. We were almost late so there was no need to even wait.
On the flight, we all sat on the same row and I spent most of the time sleeping.
Touching down in New York filled my stomach with anxiety. We headed towards the conveyor belt to pick up our bags.
My phone began buzzing in my bag and I stepped aside to receive the call. It was Miranda from Titan properties, she's been the one I've been communicating with for the most parts.
"Hello Miranda?"
"Hello good evening Bianca, I hope you've arrived in New York?"
"Yeah, funny enough I just arrived. I'm still at the airport, anything the matter?"
"Well… I'm sorry to bother you, I know the flight must have been stressful and you probably need some time to rest but there's a problem."
"What's up?" By now Liam could to tell that something was wrong and he stood beside me wearing a confused look.
"There's some tenants in a building that marked for demolition, we need to clear all those buildings so that the construction of the luxury apartment complex can commence. We've given all of them a notice several months ago and most of them are vacated the premises except these people."
"I see, are they still living in there?"
"I believe so. As the project manager, I think you'd be in the best position to go see what happening."
"Okay I'm on my way there, just send me the address."
I hung up. "Honey what's up? We just arrived at New York can't they give you some time to rest?"
"Babe it's something that was out of their control okay, it won't take long I'll just go get a situation analysis probably talk to the people and then I'll be back before you know it."
"I should come with you."
"There's no need for that, you and the kids can go home."
We kissed and then I made my way out of the airport. I ordered for a ride and then to driver began taking me towards that address.
It's been years since I last saw this city. Luckily, it's remained mostly the same. I felt right at home knowing that once again, this was where I grew up.
We drove past a building and I couldn't help but look twice. Ava signatures. Those were the words that was atop the building.
Could it be that it belonged to her? I shook my head, there's probably no correlation.
The taxi pulled up by the street right in front of the building that was supposed to be demolished. I looked up at it, it was an old looking structure.
All the paint had begun to peel off and honestly even if they didn't demolish this place, it didn't look like it had so much more good years left.
I paid for the ride I made my way in. Climbing the dusty staircase to the second floor. I knocked on the door waiting for whoever it was inside to open up.
The shuffling of feet met my ears and I turned sideways to see who was approaching.
"Aiden?" I muttered, my stomach twisting in a knot.
