Kapitel 64: Chapter 63

Before arriving in Gotham City, Kara called Bruce.

Jennifer was her close friend, and Kara knew Jennifer had never forgotten Bruce all these years. She was clearly still infatuated with him. Given the situation, Kara decided to try her best to bring them together, not caring much about whether it worked out in the end.

So, after they finished packing, Bruce arrived in his supercar to meet them.

There's no need to doubt how much money Bruce has, just like there's no need to question whether Iron Man could buy a building in an instant just to demolish it.

As Kara would say, after some grooming, Bruce looked annoyingly good.

And of course, this jerk also played the role of a charming, carefree billionaire playboy during the day. He was rich, handsome, and carried an irresistible aura of mystery. No wonder he attracted so many famous women.

"On behalf of Gotham City, let me personally welcome the new Chief Justice," Bruce said with grace and humor as he greeted Jennifer.

But Jennifer wasn't thrilled. "I'd prefer you call me by my name and welcome me as an old classmate."

Bruce glanced over at Kara, who was standing nearby.

"Old classmate?" He seemed a bit puzzled.

"You haven't forgotten, have you? It's been ten years," Jennifer said, her shoulders drooping a little.

Jennifer had taken great care to dress up for this occasion, but she hadn't expected that Bruce might have forgotten her. It was a blow, and she felt disappointed.

Kara shot a pointed look at Bruce. "Back then, I only had two friends: Jennifer and Dani. Even though you and I were classmates, you shouldn't forget old friends, right?"

Bruce slapped his forehead, embarrassed. "I'm really sorry. You know how busy the Wayne Enterprises keeps me these days. But let me make up for it with a well-prepared dinner."

Kara almost wanted to call him out on his lie. After all, she was a journalist, and Bruce had long passed on the CEO duties to Lucius Fox. Truth be told, Bruce was simply indulging in his playboy persona. He didn't have much work to speak of these days.

But to spare Jennifer from further disappointment, Kara let it slide. She simply gave Bruce a knowing look before they all got into his car.

Kara's car wasn't bad by any means, but compared to Bruce's supercar, it felt rather modest. This was the same man who had once promised her the Batmobile, but Kara had since realized she couldn't exactly use that to commute to work.

And with her identity as Supergirl now revealed, she had to be more careful about keeping up appearances. The Batmobile reward, it seemed, was just out of reach.

This frustration led her to tease Bruce. "I heard you burned down your family's ancestral manor after getting drunk? So, how's the rebuilding going?"

Bruce, glancing at her through the rearview mirror, sighed helplessly. Who else would have reported that story other than Kara herself?

Jennifer, who knew that Kara had written the article, couldn't help but giggle softly, covering her mouth.

Kara shot her a playful look. They were close enough to know when one was putting on airs, and Jennifer was certainly trying to appear ladylike for Bruce.

Jennifer rolled her eyes back at Kara as if to say, Come on, the guy's here. Gotta make a good impression.

Thanks to Kara's light-hearted banter, the ride was filled with laughter. Kara also learned that in just one month, Wayne Manor was already well on its way to being rebuilt. Bruce even invited them to visit later that evening.

Kara was stunned and could only mutter, "Evil capitalist."

Indeed, Bruce was extraordinarily wealthy. His enormous estate had been reduced to rubble, but it was nearly rebuilt in less than a month. It truly was a case of "money solves everything."

When they arrived at an upscale hotel, it was clear this was no ordinary establishment. The vast courtyard, complete with flower beds and fountains, indicated just how luxurious it was.

Naturally, a well-dressed doorman stood at the entrance, welcoming guests. Compared to everyone else, Kara's casual attire made her stand out. She was dressed in a simple shirt, jeans, and sneakers, a stark contrast to the elegant dresses and high heels worn by the other guests.

The doorman stopped her politely. "Excuse me, miss, but your attire doesn't meet the dress code for this establishment."

Kara scratched the back of her head, running a hand through her long blonde hair, which shimmered under the lights. The doorman's eyes widened, captivated for a moment by her presence, but he quickly regained his composure.

Kara turned to Bruce. "This is on you, buddy. You brought us here, so you've got to handle it."

Jennifer whispered in Kara's ear, "I told you to wear the dress I offered you. I had a feeling there'd be a dress code here."

Kara huffed. "I always thought the customer chose the restaurant, not the other way around. What a pretentious place."

Bruce's eyes gleamed with amusement. He liked Kara's irreverent attitude, a refreshing contrast to the formality of the world they were in.

The situation drew the attention of the hotel manager, who quickly came over and, upon hearing Kara's words, gave a respectful but firm reminder. "Miss, this is a high-end establishment. Our guests are prominent figures—celebrities and politicians. We have a responsibility to maintain the standards of the venue for all our patrons."

His tone was neither rude nor overly accommodating. Kara nodded, acknowledging that he had a point. After all, the other guests had their own expectations, too.

But when Bruce stepped in, everything changed. "I apologize," he said, looking at the manager. "I'm Bruce Wayne, the owner of this hotel."

The manager's demeanor shifted instantly. With a deep bow, he simply said, "Please, enjoy your evening."

Kara could only mutter under her breath, "Damned capitalist."

Sometimes, it really did come down to knowing the right people.
