Kapitel 34: Chapter 33

When Kara returned to Metropolis, she couldn't help but feel strange.

She had only been away for three years, and while she had walked through these streets during her university days, the city had changed so much. She wondered if she would get lost in this new Metropolis.

This time, Kara returned with a clear objective: to find a good job and support herself. Before heading back, she contacted some of her classmates. She had met influential people at university, and maybe one of them could help her.

One of those people was Perry White.

Thanks to his experience at a news agency, Perry White had joined the Daily Planet and now had his own column. Kara mentioned to him that she had traveled to many places and could write a column about her experiences and the customs of the different places she had visited.

Perry remembered that young university student who was beautiful, a bit lonely, and always seemed to stand out in some way. He decided to help her get a direct interview.

So, Kara headed to the Daily Planet headquarters.

The Daily Planet was the most important newspaper and news agency in the city. It even had its own office building, topped with a large decoration shaped like a planet, in honor of its name.

Kara dressed specifically for the occasion. She wore a business-style suit, with a white shirt and tie. Her jacket was beige, matching her pants, and she wore white leather shoes. Her outfit wasn't just neutral—it had a masculine touch, something that, despite the progress in women's rights, still raised some eyebrows in the workplace.

Kara let her long hair down and put on glasses, projecting an image that was both confident and artistic.

She didn't need to bring any documents, so she entered the building empty-handed and headed straight to the office Perry had indicated.

Upon hearing that Kara was coming, Perry went down to greet her personally. He gave her some insight into the editor-in-chief's personality and interests, hoping to help her prepare for the interview.

Perry, now in his thirties, was only a year older than Kara, but he had taken on a big-brother role for her.

Kara looked him up and down.

"What? Don't recognize me anymore?" Perry asked, feeling odd that she was the one who had come to see him, yet now seemed to be analyzing him.

Kara, too, was being observed by Perry. He hadn't seen her in years, but she still had that same style as before. Not only was she as beautiful as ever, but she seemed not to have aged a day.

Even her family had noticed that Kara looked as though she was still in her early twenties, instead of nearing thirty.

Kara shook her head, pointing at Perry's belly, and joked:

"I think what's changed the most is your belly."

Perry used to be stocky during their school years, but now he just looked bloated. Maybe it was the consequence of spending so much time in the office, or perhaps he had grown lazy and wasn't exercising during his free time anymore.

Perry rolled his eyes.

"You're still joking with me. You should focus on your upcoming interview."

As they talked, someone came over to inform them that the editor-in-chief was ready to see Kara.

"Don't worry," Kara said confidently. "Wait for my good news."

Kara had always been self-assured, and in this case, she had good reason to be.

First, Kara had a degree from Metropolis University, which immediately created a connection with the editor-in-chief, who had graduated from the same school.

Second, like Perry, Kara had experience participating in the university's news club, which gave them a shared professional background and interests.

But most importantly, Kara had vast experience. She had traveled all over the world.

When the editor-in-chief asked her what her strengths were, Kara explained that she could create a new column to describe tourist destinations and local customs from around the globe. She had witnessed many wild and almost unbelievable events.

"I once crossed a desert, and I'm sure many people would love to read about how I found water and survived the cold nights and scorching days," she explained. "I also know of a paradise that almost no one has ever visited: a small waterfall surrounded by fruit trees, with small animals wandering around without fear. There aren't even any annoying mosquitoes there. I stayed for a week, and when I left, I was still hesitating about whether to go."

"Do you know who truly dominates a lion pride? If there are enough strong male lions, the lionesses won't dare to challenge them. But if there's only one lion or an old one, the lionesses take control and can even kill a lion they don't like. I saw it happen once."

Kara spoke about all sorts of experiences: nature, animals, landscapes, and even undiscovered insects and fruits. Her adventures were so fascinating that the editor-in-chief was completely drawn in.

Finally, the editor-in-chief made a decision.

"Miss Kent, you're hired. As you expected, I'll be assigning you your own column. I'll announce the details at the next meeting. Now, you can go and start preparing. I'll need a plan for the column: name, content, series, everything. Don't let me down."

"Of course," Kara replied, satisfied. She stood up, confidently shook the editor-in-chief's hand, and said her goodbyes.

The editor watched as she walked away, feeling that the newspaper had just discovered a hidden gem.

After the interview, Kara told Perry the good news, and he, happy for his friend, offered to celebrate.

"There's a restaurant downstairs that serves great steaks."

"Forget it, Perry. I've got a date with Jennifer and Dani tonight. Remember them? We were always inseparable," Kara said with a smile, politely declining his offer.

Perry, resigned, had no choice but to let it go. At that moment, they heard a teasing voice from behind.

"Do you really think you've forgotten us?"

Kara turned around, surprised, and saw two beautiful women standing there in formal outfits. It was Jennifer and Dani, her old university friends.
