Kapitel 17: Chapter 16

During the two-day vacation, it was rare for Kara not to help out at home.

The main reason was that Jonathan didn't know how to guide his fifteen-year-old adopted daughter. Moreover, Kara and Clark were different. When they arrived on Earth, Kara already had her own memories and opinions. It was difficult to instill values in her, like they had done with Clark from a young age.

Jonathan didn't even suspect that Kara actually had a different memory. She was a time traveler, making her identity even more mysterious.

The next morning, Kara and Clark got on the school bus and headed to school. Kara had taken the same bus a few years ago, so she greeted the driver familiarly.

However, when they both sat in the back seat, murmurs could be heard around them.

"Is that the girl from the news?"

"That's her. She's so pretty, no wonder she attracts others."

Clark, always protective of his sister, heard those comments and was about to get up, but Kara placed a hand on his shoulder and stood up herself.

When would it be her turn to let her brother protect her?

"I thought there was a fly in the bus making noise," Kara said as she stood in the aisle, steady despite the bus's movements. "What's the matter? Don't have the guts to say it to my face? I'm here. Do you dare to stand up?"

She glared at the kids who had been murmuring and smiled with disdain.

"How dare you talk bad about someone behind their back if you're such cowards?"

No one dared to face Kara, who was at least five years older than them.

But Kara had no intention of stopping there.

With her arms crossed, she gave a contemptuous look to the rest of the bus.

"Cowards. Do you think you can bully my brother? Believe me, if you keep bothering him, I'll make sure someone's waiting for you at the school gate every day."

At that moment, Kara didn't want to be a superhero; she was just a big sister defending her brother and facing elementary school students. Five or six-year-olds, not even in elementary school yet, were no match for her, even without her super strength.

Finally, the driver couldn't take it anymore and yelled without turning around:

"Kara! You again? You used to bully everyone when you were in elementary school, and now you're still at it?"

Kara clenched her teeth, annoyed. How did the driver know her childhood nickname? Who could have told him?

She snorted in disgust and gave one last intimidating look at a chubby boy who lowered his head, not daring to speak.

"My brother doesn't need to play with you," Kara warned them before sitting back down. "He'll find real friends someday. But if you think he's easy to bully, you're very wrong."

The kids immediately fell silent, terrified by Kara's attitude. The driver shook his head. Kara had always been a polite, well-behaved girl. But today, for some reason, she seemed like a real troublemaker.

The reason was simple: Kara had heard that some kids were excluding Clark at school and even daring to bully him. That wasn't acceptable to her.

Although Clark was getting stronger over time, Jonathan had instilled the idea of avoiding conflicts, so Kara felt it was her responsibility to protect him.

After the small incident, the bus arrived in town in silence. Kara got off with the others at the gate of Clark's school.

She handed fifty dollars to Clark as spending money.

"If you're hungry at noon, buy something nice to eat," she told him.

Clark had his own spending money, but it was always less than what Kara had. Not because their adoptive parents favored Kara, but because she helped out more at home, so they gave her a little extra.

Additionally, Kara was already fifteen, and at that age, there were more things to spend on. However, she was quite thrifty, saving most of what she received.

Curiously, Kara hadn't even had her first period yet, possibly due to her Kryptonian nature or her Superman-like abilities, which also saved her some expenses.

As for clothing, Kara always dressed simply: jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts. Dresses or more feminine outfits didn't matter much to her.

Once, Martha insisted on buying her a white dress, but Kara asked her jokingly if people wouldn't see everything from below when she was flying. In the end, she decided to wear shorts under her clothes when necessary, although she hadn't had to use them yet.

After dropping off Clark, Kara called her friends Jennifer and Dani. The three of them planned to make the most of the three-day vacation the school had given them.

Dani suggested taking a trip to the nearby big city, Metropolis, the famous city where Superman lived and home to the Daily Planet.

Although Metropolis was a bustling metropolis, much larger than the small town they lived in, the three girls were curious about visiting it. They decided to take the train in the morning, spend the day there, and return in the evening.

After all, if anything happened, Kara was there to protect them.
