ICH HAB ES
Kapitel 146: Chapter 146 (edited)
Kara found herself pondering the inexplicable nature of Doctor Manhattan's powers.
"The most unacceptable thing," she muttered, "is that you died from the power of the quantum field, then accidentally stumbled into it, observed it, and just… came back with this strength? Really? That's the explanation? What a slap in the face for Ant-Man."
Kara's skepticism was almost tangible as she continued her tirade. "What is this, some magical transformation? Like, you glance at a Van Gogh painting and suddenly you're Van Gogh? Or look at a math equation, and poof—you're a mathematician? Who even thinks like that?"
Doctor Manhattan, ever calm and detached, regarded her disapprovingly. "As someone who gets her power from absorbing sunlight, I would think you'd understand."
Kara's expression froze. "Touché," she muttered reluctantly. The absurdity of her gaining immense power just by basking under a star wasn't lost on her, but that didn't mean Doctor Manhattan's story made any more sense to her.
Attempting to end the conversation, she offered, "Why don't you sit down? I'll make some tea."
But Manhattan was unrelenting. "There's no need for tea. I didn't come here to relax. I came to ask for your help. My world is facing an end-of-times event, and I need you to come with me."
Kara blinked. "Sorry, not happening."
Doctor Manhattan wasn't fazed. "You can refuse, but I will remain here in your universe, which could eventually lead to chaos or destruction. One day, you may be forced to either destroy me or face annihilation."
Kara's sharp mind knew he wasn't bluffing. With his ability to see all timelines, his predictions often bordered on inevitability. She sighed heavily, massaging her temples.
"Crossing universes, huh?" she finally asked, her voice tinged with hesitation. She couldn't deny her curiosity but was also reluctant to leave her world behind again.
Manhattan, sensing her hesitation, added, "Don't worry. I will open the quantum tunnel for you. It will be a brief trip—three days, perhaps less. I've seen your return, and you seem… happy."
Kara raised an eyebrow. "Happy?" Her flat tone conveyed disbelief, but part of her curiosity was piqued.
"Fine," she conceded. "I'll go inform my parents first."
Manhattan nodded in silent agreement.
Kara headed downstairs, taking a deep breath to steady herself. Her palms were clammy, and a bead of sweat trailed down her temple. The truth was, if it came to a fight, she knew she wouldn't stand a chance against Manhattan. Worse, the earth might become collateral damage.
Her adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent, were sitting in the living room, surprised to see her return so soon.
"Kara? Weren't you going to bed?" Jonathan asked, his concern evident.
Kara forced a small smile. "Change of plans. I need to head out for a bit—shouldn't be gone longer than three days. Mom, where's my suit?"
Martha stood up, frowning slightly. "You're going out again already?" She gestured toward the laundry room. "I cleaned it for you. It should be dry now."
Kara resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Kryptonian fabric didn't require washing, let alone drying. Still, Martha's dedication to household chores left the suit smelling faintly of soap, a scent that was oddly comforting.
After thanking her mother and hugging both her parents, she flew back upstairs to change. Donning her iconic suit, she steeled herself for what lay ahead. "Let's go," she said resolutely, nodding to Doctor Manhattan. "I want to see what's so bad it's got you concerned."
Without further preamble, Manhattan's body began to glow, enveloping Kara in a radiant blue light. The room dissolved into a swirl of colors as they transitioned into the quantum realm.
The journey was breathtaking. Kara found herself marveling at the kaleidoscope of energy, her senses overwhelmed yet oddly attuned. She realized that her exposure to the quantum realm might have unlocked new potential within her, an instinctive understanding of its rules and possibilities.
Doctor Manhattan remained silent, his expression inscrutable, as they traveled deeper into the quantum expanse. Kara couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something far bigger than she had anticipated.
