Jenny got their first, probably recognizing the knock from extended exposure. The massive door of the mansion opened to a tall, cool drink of water in a well-tailored dark suit that just screamed federal agent. I had seen more than enough of them on the various members of the agents back during the trouble with the Diaz family.

“Hello, and who might you be?” Ellis asked, coming up behind me.

“I’m Duncan Dougal,” he said, looking ten times cooler than the last time I saw him. “I’m here to help.”

The arrival of the IRS was rarely a cause for celebration. Lying, crying, and general panic are more common in terms of the general reaction. That was just for auditors though, and Duncan was a different sort of pencil pusher entirely. For one thing, he was on our side.
