Kapitel 193: Cheer for the White Blood Cells!

Yueyue quickly got excited. In the manga, the hidden Streptococcus pneumoniae had been hiding in the cargo that Red Blood Cell was transporting! It was about to attack Red Blood Cell again when White Blood Cell suddenly appeared and saved the day. However, White Blood Cell wasn't strong enough to defeat the bacteria and had to retreat. Luckily, White Blood Cell managed to trick the bacteria into a trap and captured it.

"Bronchi?" Yueyue read aloud, confused, then looked up at her dad. "Dad, what are bronchi? And what's that membrane wrapping around the bacteria? Does my body produce that?"

"Bronchi? They're around here, near your lungs," Ren explained, poking Yueyue lightly, making her giggle. "And that membrane is mucus secreted by goblet cells in the bronchial lining."

Yueyue looked puzzled. She recognized the words but couldn't understand the explanation.

Seeing her confusion, Ren sighed and clarified, "It's basically phlegm."

When Ren was drawing this part, he did a lot of research. Initially, he thought it was snot that trapped the bacteria, but he learned that mucus in the bronchi forms phlegm, which can be expelled by sneezing.

"Eww!" Yueyue exclaimed, scrunching her nose in disgust. She found it gross and thought it might spoil her appetite for snacks later.

"But Dad, can I really sneeze out missiles?" Yueyue asked, feeling quite impressed with herself.

"Not exactly, but sneezing does help expel bacteria," Ren smiled, pinching her cheek. "And remember, don't swallow your phlegm."

"I don't!" Yueyue protested indignantly. She would never do something so gross!

"Snot works the same way; it's full of bacteria," Ren added. "And you don't like blowing your nose, which means you might be swallowing those bacteria."

"Ugh!!!" Yueyue made a growling sound, baring her teeth like a little animal ready to bite.

"Alright, alright, let's move on to the next chapter," Ren said, defusing her anger by turning her attention back to the manga.

Sure enough, Yueyue was immediately engrossed again. She found the story fascinating!

It wasn't just Yueyue who enjoyed the manga; many netizens began discussing it enthusiastically after reading it.

"Man, even my cells are dating, and here I am still single?"

"Ah, the platelets are so cute!"

"Just donated blood recently, and now I feel like I gave away all those cute platelets. What a loss!"

"Now I can't bring myself to pick my scabs!"

"Darn it, these cells are dating in my single body! Warning: don't pick your scabs!"

"Out of all anime wives, these are the only ones I actually have in my body!"

"Yeah, right. I've seen you call every anime girl your wife. Just last week, you said Saber was your wife."

Of course, there were also the inevitable nitpickers online.

"What's the big deal? This isn't medically accurate. How can bacteria explode in blood?"

"White blood cells only live for a few days and usually die after engulfing bacteria. How can they have frequent encounters with red blood cells and date in your body?"

These comments were quickly countered by other netizens.

"Really? Cells are supposed to look human? The body is made of buildings and sneezes like missiles?"

"Seriously, if it were entirely factual, it wouldn't be a manga but a documentary. Understand?"

"Exactly, this manga's use of science is impressive. The depiction of cell functions is accurate and well-detailed. How many manga creators can do that?"

...

In Daniel's house, he had just finished reading the first volume of the Porter's new manga, Cells at Work. He was in awe of the Porter's creativity. Initially, he thought it would be about controlling cells to become a superhero, but it turned out to be an actual story about cells!

The plot was straightforward yet engaging, with seamless and appropriate educational points. The Porter had personified cells with vivid personalities and appearances: Red Blood Cells as cheerful, clumsy girls; White Blood Cells as cool and serious guys; and platelets as adorable little children. The manga balanced entertainment and education, teaching readers about cell functions and body mechanisms in an engaging way. Daniel even recalled some of his high school biology lessons.

"This is amazing... I can't believe the Porter thought of personifying cells like this," Daniel mused, reaching for a can of soda.

"Ouch..." He winced as the pull tab cut his finger. Blood began to ooze from the small wound. Normally, he would just suck on it, but now he hesitated. He remembered the cells fighting off bacteria in the manga. They were fighting for his health, and he couldn't let them fight alone!

Determined, Daniel reached for a bandage, thinking it would help keep out bacteria.
