Layla stared at her daughter in confusion when Amber threw the diamond ring from her hands that symbolized her position in the palace. She stood up and followed the group of men brought by her grandfather.
"Amber, wait! You do not know what you are doing," Layla said, looking mortified as she ran after her daughter, but her daughter did not listen. For once, she felt liberated.
"Amber, wait…" She grabbed Amber's wrist and tried to pull her back, but Amber jerked her hands away.
"No, Mother. For once, I know what I am doing, and I am happy with it. I do not want to confine myself in a golden cage; I want to live a free life. You chose to come here by leaving your family; I should have the same right." She yanked her mother away, leaving Layla looking aghast.
Layla took a step back, disbelief in her eyes. "But I did all of this for you!" she whispered as Amber shook her head.
