Kapitel 1: Chapter One: Alexia Rose

The beautiful morning sun rises on a large building in the middle of a small forest. The building is made entirely of white stone with fifty windows on each side, five per floor. The building also has a red cross at the top of the north side of the building. There's a parking lot in front of the building with a single road leading to and from it. There's a cool breeze blowing through the air, ruffling the green leaves off of the trees.

The light of the new sun shines through a window on the third floor of the east side of the building. The beam penetrates through the cracks in the shade and right onto the eyes of a young girl resting in a white bed. The room itself is a bit small. There is the bed on the right side, a door that leads to the building on the adjacent side, and a window on the side of the room opposite to the door. The entire room, including the bed and the items beside it are all white. There's also a large television on the opposite side of the room to the bed as well as cushioned chairs underneath it. The machines beside the bed seem to be automatic. A small beeping noise echoes through the small room as another machine slowly channels a clear fluid through a tube that goes into the young girl's left wrist.

The girl's eyes strain as she opens them to the light of the new day. The sun's rays reflect off of her crimson red eyes and make her long white hair shine beautifully. She sits up and yawns as the light also shines upon her unhealthy-looking pale skin. After yawning, she rubs the crust out of her eyes, she looks at the clock resting on the white desk to her right. The clock reads, "6:50 a.m." and she smiles.

"I'm glad I woke up before my morning tests," the little girl says with a gleeful smile, "I still have a while before they get here."

At that point, the little girl takes out a book from underneath her pillow entitled, Vampire War: Ascendance to the Blood Throne, and begins to read with excitement in her eyes. The minutes pass, and the sound of the alarm clock going off echoes through the room. The little girl quickly presses the button on top of it, shutting off the alarm, and continues to read.

Ten minutes after the alarm sounds, two women enter the room. One of the women has tan skin, black hair, and brown eyes. Her long black hair is tied in a ponytail and she has a pair of bifocals over her eyes. The other girl has a lighter skin color with shoulder-length, brown hair, and blue eyes. This girl also holds a clipboard with a piece of paper attached to it in her hands. Both of them are wearing blue short-sleeve shirts, blue long pants, and tennis shoes. Both of them also gain warm smiles on their faces as they open the door to see the little girl with her nose stuck in her book. However, the girl's eyes are glued to the book, and so she does not look up from it to greet them.

"Alexia," says the woman with tan skin.

At that point, the girl looks up from her book, "Oh hi, Miss Erica."

"Don't you 'Oh hi' me! Get your nose out of that book for once. Seriously, you've had your eyes attached to it for the past three days!" she answers angrily.

"Hehe. Sorry, it's just a really good book," Alexia answers with a smile, "By the way, who's she?"

"She's a new assistant nurse that'll be assisting me for the next couple years. Her name is Lauren."

"It's nice to meet you. My name's Alexia Rose," says the girl on the bed.

"It's nice to meet you too. I had no idea that you were an albino. Your white hair and red eyes are so beautiful. You look just like a pretty little vampire," the girl with brown hair says.

Alexia smiles even wider, "Haha. Then I guess it's a good thing that I love everything about vampires. I wish I was a vampire sometimes just like the characters in this book."

"Wait a minute…" says Lauren as she eyes the book, "... I've read that book too and it's meant for people a lot older than you. What are you doing reading it?!"

Alexia only laughs and Erica steps in, "This girl may be young, but she's actually quite smart."

"I'm not talking about the reading level, I'm talking about the gore scenes and other… more 'adult' scenes." says Lauren with a concerned tone.

"I kinda like the bloody scenes. And as for the naughty scenes, I just skip past those. But I do like the romance story between Aaron and Eris."

"Well of course. Everyone likes their relationship. Just like the worst villain in the entire book is Raven," says Lauren.

Alexia raises her hand, "Actually, my least favorite villain is Killian the Progenitor."

Lauren looks at the girl with widened eyes, "... You're kidding."

"No way. His backstory was bland and he was super easy for Aaron to kill. Especially since he stupidly kidnapped Eris just like almost every other villain."

"His backstory is awesome, and Aaron had trouble beating him!" said Lauren with a slightly irritated tone.

"Not as much trouble as he had when he was dealing with his brother, Scorn. Now that's the best villain in the entire series," the little girl responds with an 'as a matter of fact' tone.

"I'll agree with you on that one. However, Raven's backstory didn't have any feeling. It was a lot worse than Killian's. Not only that, but Raven was just an idiot and was messed up in the head when it came to her evil plans."

"I'll agree to that. But, even Terrance warned Killian that kidnapping Eris was a bad idea. And he did it anyway just because he wanted a wife and a few children. You have to admit, that was incredibly stupid on his part," says Alexia, crossing her arms.

"Now hold on. Just…"

Erica cuts in, "Can you two not?! Lauren, you're having an argument with a little girl!"

Lauren takes a moment to reexamine her life choices while Alexia laughs mischievously, "Hehehe."

"Good grief. What am I even doing anymore?" Lauren asks with a blank expression.

"We came here for Alexia's morning examination. We didn't come here to argue about a vampire novel series," the senior nurse says with an annoyed tone.

"Okay, okay. Let's have a look at your monitor's readings…" She looks at all of the numbers, lines, and bar graphs on the monitor and writes them down on her clipboard. She then checks the inner-workings of the machines beside Alexia, "... Everything seems to be alright. There are no changes from last night's readings and the equipment seems to be working. Have you had any aches or pains?"

"Nope," she says cheerfully.

"What about any trouble breathing? Or maybe any nausea or heart problems?"

"Nada!" Alexia answers while making an X with her arms.

Lauren chuckles, "Alright then. We'll be back a while later with your morning dose of medicine."

"Sounds like a plan."

Lauren finishes writing down her notes and then begins walking towards the door behind Erica, "See you later Alexia."

"See you later, Miss Erica. I'm going to be needing the next volume soon."

At that point, the two exit the room and Alexia continues to read her book. While Lauren and Erica walk down the hallway and pass the other patients' rooms, they talk.

"That little girl is so nice," says the junior nurse.

"Yep. She certainly is a strong one," Erica answers.

"What do you mean by that?"

"That girl is definitely cheerful. However, her life has been pretty hard."

"Does it have something to do with her strange illness?"

"That's part of it. She was born with an illness that made her extremely weak and on top of that, she's an albino, so she was already frail to begin with. Without looking at the board, how old do you think she is?"

"I would think, maybe four or five?" says Laura with a questioning look.

"Ha. Actually, she turns ten today."

"Ten?! Well, I guess her maturity is a bit more believable now."

Erica nods her head, "That's right. She wasn't able to stand until she was three. And she wasn't able to walk or run until she was four. She was bullied whenever she was in school for being so weak, and so she was given personal tutors for the next two years. Her frailness aside, she absorbs information quickly, and she's extraordinarily smart and cunning for her age. I'm positive that she'd be considered a genius. And then, her condition took a bad turn. She's been in this hospital for the past four years, unable to get up and walk by herself. All the doctors that have come to see her say that she won't live long enough to see her 19th birthday," she explains with a solemn tone.

"That's so sad," answers Lauren with a pitying expression.

"You would think that that would be the worst part."

"What?"

"Take a look at the visitor's roster for her. Notice anything?"

She raises the piece of paper at the front and looks at it closely, "There's only one visitor. And it's just once every month or two. Her brother, Arthur. What about her parents?!"

"I'm sure that you've heard of Colin Rose, right?"

"Yeah, he's the tenth richest man in the world. Wait… does that mean that Alexia is Colin Rose's daughter?!"

"That's right. I mean, our facility is the most advanced in the world. There's no chance that a normal family can get someone into this hospital without a massive amount of money. However, because of her illness, he doesn't actually acknowledge her as his daughter, and neither does her mother. Neither of them care about Alexia, and that's because she's due to die at an early age, unlike her brother, who's expected to inherit their wealth."

Lauren pauses then says, "That's… horrible."

"It is. Her brother, on the other hand, loves her dearly. But, even though he wants to spend time with her, Arthur is busy with work and school. And thus, doesn't get to see her as often as he wants to. It really is tragic."

The two nurses continue to walk through the halls towards their next destination.
