Just as Duke had promised, he was home within two hours and Mary soon left after. And as I expected Duke was more than happy that I took the rest of the day off to spend time with him. Seeing him enjoy the meal I prepared made me happy that I knew how to cook.
After our meal we hung out with the kids for the rest of the day, doing simple little things that a family does together. I'm at peace and I hope this peace lasts.
…
"Duke," I call out to him as I nestle in his arms to fall asleep there.
"Hmm?"
"I think I owe you something." I say and he stares down at me.
"You do?" He asks with a slightly creased brow.
"I do." I say and rise a little till our heads are aligned and I say, "A kiss of gratitude." I say and a soft smile appears on his lips.
