Kapitel 16: The Girls

Sunny summoned his new weapon. It's actually his first time getting this blade. For some damn reason only this scavenger seems to drop this weapon.
The blade was a meter long, including the handle. Forged out of azure steel, it was sharp and light. The blade was straight and single-edged. Deep inside the steel, white sparks could be. The crossguard was minimalistic and simple, offering no protection to the wielder's hand.
He did some research on various types of weapon memories before coming here, so he knew it was called a tang dao.
'Damn, it's pretty.'
He could now understand why many people liked to collect this sort of thing.
Sunny waved the sword a few times and got accustomed to its weight.
His shadow warped itself around the memory; the steel became bluish-black.
The sword became lighter, sharper, and faster.
Looking at the corpse, Sunny sighed.
After some time, he managed to break open the carapace and cut away a few tender strips of meat. He also took some small bones, some teeth and nails, and the tip of a pincer. Those could be used to make some arrows.
He also did not forget to take the soul shard.
Placing them in a seaweed makeshift rucksack, he continued his journey.
Hours passed, and he made significant progress. The further he reached in the labyrinth, the more the paths became entangled and confusing. Even with his shadow's help, he constantly has to backtrack.
He tried to memorize some key turns and locations. After all, he will be looping a lot.
[ AN: For some reason, I am calling 'traveling back in time', "looping". Really not sure, why am I doing it. But I will continue referring to it as looping.]
Sunny looked up at the sky to check the time.
'Good.'
At this pace, he'll be at the cliff before the sun sets.
His shadow suddenly noticed something in the distance that momentarily sent himself into a stupor.
Some way along the road, after a few turns, the corals expanded, forming a little clearing. And in the midst of all, two teenage girls were trudging through the mud.
'Finally.'
Nephis walked holding a strange golden rope, the wind played with her short silver hair. The tall, lithe girl was dressed in a makeshift skirt and brassiere, both made out of seaweed. Cassie held the end of the rope and carefully followed behind.
Sunny took a sharp breath.
Grey sky above, black mud below, and an endless sea of crimson in between. On this dreamlike backdrop, two beautiful girls were walking across the labyrinth.
He could now understand why Sunny dropped that picture comment.
Sighing he shook his head.
His shadow made itself known to the girls.
As soon as Nephis saw his shadow, she snapped her hand sideways, and a long sword appeared. Before his shadow could even take two stops out of its hiding spot, it was pierced by the last daughter of Immortal Flames's gray eyes.
His shadow was a bit startled. It remained in its spot so that its action wouldn't provoke the girls.
Cassie took a stop back.
"Neph, what is it?"
Nephis didn't reply immediately. She had already taken a defensive stance. After observing the shadow for a few moments, she said:
"It's a shadow."
Cassie's face paled.
"Scavengers?"
The silver-haired girl shook her head a little.
"No, it's a human shadow."
Cassie was startled, this wasn't definitely what she expected to hear.
"A human shadow...….what's it doing?"
"It's waving its thumb finger….. no, its waving its hand. Wait, it's pointing its middle finger towards us."
After a whole minute of silence, Cassie finally found the words to react.
"Huh thumb and middle finger? Oh, you mean thumbs-up and fuc…. Wait, that's rude."
"Rude? I said it was waving and…"
"Yes, I know! I mean… why is it doing that?"
By that time, Sunny had covered the distance between him and his shadow. Taking the last corner, he said:
"Friendly, its friendly! I am human, and that's my slightly intelligent shadow."
Immediately he was pierced by Changing Star's calm gray eyes; her sword was already pointed in his general direction. Cassie also moved her head towards the voice.
"...….Why is your shadow like that?"
'That's the first question she asked?'
"Its my aspect."
Luckly, Cassie has already recognized his voice.
"Are you the boy who sat with me in the cafeteria?"
Sunny smiled a little and said,
"Yep, its Sunny. You said 'happy birthday' to me."
Nephis glanced at the blind girl.
"Do you know him?"
Cassie nodded.
"I recognize his voice. His name is Sunless. He was second-to-last in the rankings…..right above me."
The tall girl frowned, as if trying to remember something.
"The creep?"
'Ouch. Better than pervert, at least.'
"Uhhh….. it was all a misunderstanding."
Nephis remained silent for a few seconds. Finally, she dismissed her sword.
Sunny moved and stopped a few meters away from them. He raised his arms and put the seaweed bag in front of them.
"I have food."
"You killed one of them?"
Sunny sighed.
"Yeah, it was injured though."
Nephis continued to look at him.

…
'How hard is it to hold a conversation with this girl?'
Luckily, Cassie came to the rescue….. again.
"Are you injured?"
"I am fine, just a minor cut."
Sunny cleared his throat.
"Before getting a surprise visit from Mr. Crab, I was heading for the tall hill with the massive coral at the top. Do you perhaps know the way?"
"Crab?" Cassie asked.
He forgot that Cassie couldn't see.
At least he knew how a crab looked by surfing the internet.
"Umm, the monster is called Carapace Scavenger. It looked like a monster crab to me, so. Anyway, its name is a little big."
Cassie smiled a little after hearing his explanation.
"Actually, we spend the last days on the hill. We were about to go back."
Nephis didn't say anything. She was looking at the sky.
"Well, can I come with you?"
Cassie turned her head towards her companion, a clear question written on her face.
Nephis lowered her eyes, staring at Sunny.
It was in these moments that he remembered how short Sunny is.
He was 5"10" in his previous life.
"No..."
Ba-dump
….
Ba-dump
"…problem."
Sunny sighed for the umpteenth time today.
