Kapitel 47: Departure
Mu She stared in disbelief as Xiao Yu's Dou Qi shifted from Fire to Wind. This was unheard of; a cultivator's attributes were usually determined at birth. Changing attributes midway through was almost inconceivable.
Xiao Yu, however, paid no attention to Mu She's astonished gaze. Moving at extreme speed, he closed in on Mu She and his calm voice echoed in his ear, "Captain Mu, it's over."
Mu She felt a sharp, chilling killing intent. A cold sword aura cut across his throat, and warm, crimson blood spurted from his body. The vibrant world around him began to fade to gray. As he died, his thoughts lingered on, "If it weren't for the treasure in that cave, perhaps this disaster wouldn't have happened."
But reality held no "ifs." Even if there were, the Wolf Head Mercenary Group wouldn't last long, as they were already despised by Qing Shan Town. Their demise was inevitable.
Xiao Yu, with Mo Lin in hand, moved away from Mu She's body. He was accustomed to such bloody scenes, though the stench of blood still made him frown. He sheathed Mo Lin and snapped his fingers, and the corpses in the courtyard were immediately engulfed in ghostly flames, turning to ashes in moments.
"Let's go," Xiao Yu said to Xiao Yixian.
Xiao Yixian nodded. Xiao Lan, who had been perched on her shoulder, trembled slightly before expanding in size. Xiao Yixian and Xiao Yu, along with Xiao Bai and Xiao Zi, climbed onto Xiao Lan's back.
Xiao Yixian gently instructed, "Xiao Lan, let's head to the city. We're going to Mo City!"
With an eagle's cry, Xiao Lan flapped its wings and soared into the sky, carrying them toward the horizon.
"Look, that blue eagle is carrying Xiao Yixian!"
"It's actually Xiao Yixian. It seems Wan Yao Zhai and the Wolf Head Mercenary Group had joined forces to harm her!"
The people of Qing Shan Town, having sensed the violent Dou Qi fluctuations from Wan Yao Zhai, dared only to observe from a distance. They saw Mu She and his high-ranking members enter, and were too intimidated by a Dou Master level battle to approach.
Once Xiao Yixian and her group had flown away, some brave souls ventured toward Wan Yao Zhai but found only white powder scattered on the ground with no sign of people.
The other two mercenary leaders soon arrived with their high-ranking members. Seeing the white powder, their faces turned pale as they quickly departed.
Having long since left, Xiao Yu was unaware of the commotion in Qing Shan Town. They were now en route to Mo City.
Mo City, a settlement in the midst of a golden desert, was the nearest city to the Tagor Desert, located on the eastern border of the Jiamma Empire and the primary human settlement within the desert.
Although Xiao Lan was a flying magical beast, it was only a Tier 1 creature and not a specialized flying mount. Thus, Xiao Yixian and Xiao Yu arrived at Mo City after a month of intermittent travel.
In the sky, a blue streak approached Mo City like a comet. As they neared the city, the intense heat waves became more noticeable.
Xiao Yu squinted as he looked out over the endless golden desert. Even with his two lifetimes of experience, this was his first real encounter with a desert. The dry air was quite an adjustment.
Xiao Yixian directed Xiao Lan to land a few hundred meters from Mo City to avoid drawing too much attention.
Xiao Yu jumped off Xiao Lan first, his feet sinking slightly into the soft sand. The intense heat radiating from the ground made him frown. Xiao Yixian followed suit.
"It's so hot here!" Xiao Yixian complained as the hot sand burned her feet, her face flushed from the heat.
Xiao Bai clung to Xiao Yixian, unwilling to move, while Xiao Zi appeared more at ease, even displaying a hint of satisfaction. If Xiao Yu hadn't known that the desert's air was rich in Earth and Fire energy, he might have thought Xiao Zi enjoyed the environment.
As Xiao Yu handed a Shape-Changing Pill to Xiao Lan, he said to Xiao Yixian, "It's normal. This trip won't be easy. Make sure to buy some skin protection supplies once we're in the city."
Xiao Yixian huffed, "I know, don't worry!"
Xiao Yu nodded, "Let's head into the city. My elder and second brothers are here. After we settle in, I'll take you to see them."
Xiao Yixian's face reddened slightly. She thought, "Meeting his elder and second brothers so soon might be a bit fast." She shook her head, "Xiao Yu must not mean it that way."
Blushing, Xiao Yixian asked, "Should I come with you?"
Xiao Yu, not noticing her discomfort, looked surprised, "Of course. How else will I help you make the poison pills?"
Xiao Yixian's heart sank slightly, and she replied softly, "Oh."
Xiao Yu suggested, "Let's get into the city, buy some supplies, and find an inn to rest for the night."
Xiao Yixian silently followed him as they approached the city gate. The area was bustling with people. Many men walked around shirtless, showing off their rugged, tanned physiques, exuding a bold presence. Women, too, were less delicate compared to the inner cities of the Jiamma Empire, wearing shorter skirts and shorts, which caught Xiao Yu's eye.
As they got closer, they saw the city gate with the name "Mo City" carved in red letters. On either side of the gate, several armored soldiers were collecting entrance fees. Xiao Yu and Xiao Yixian joined the line to enter.
Just as they were about to be next, a boisterous voice came from behind.
"Move aside!"
Xiao Yu turned to see a plump man in a pharmacist's robe swaggering toward the entrance.
The soldiers, who had been impatient with the crowd, suddenly became obsequious, approaching the man with smiles. "Sir, are you entering the city?"
The rotund pharmacist glanced at the soldiers disdainfully, "Of course. Get these commoners out of the way. What are they blocking the entrance for?"
"Of course, sir!" the soldiers hastily agreed. They then turned and barked at Xiao Yu and others, "Move it! Can't you see the esteemed guest is coming through?"
