Night had fallen over the city as Colette and Nora went over their final practice run of the Danse Macabre. Colette had improved rapidly, and Nora was proud of her. When the sun rose in the morning, it would be time to begin.
It was a two-day affair, the dance with death. The two would meet in the Court’s arena, take up their weapons, and begin the first set of the dance – the actual footsteps involved in the affair.
Then, they’d attack one another while keeping in time to the music.
It took all of one’s concentration, and Colette knew that she wouldn’t be able to look after Nora as she faced her grandmother. It was her hope that nothing would happen to her, but with the way things always went, she was worried.
It would be all too easy to distract her with Nora’s safety in turmoil. But surely, Francine Gauthier was not that underhanded, was she?
Speaking of Nora, she hadn’t exactly taken the recording well, so Colette was doubly worried for her.
