Kapitel 167: Chapter 166

After doing some research on the 'Death Spikes', she found that these plants were indeed planted here by the Inca swarm. The roots of the plants had traces of digging. The 'Death Spikes' weren't very hard, so they probably weren't used to defend against enemies. However, they were very good at preventing various creatures from leaving the forest. This was probably one of the reasons why the rocky terrain was so barren. If she built a base here, it would be too conspicuous and attract the attention of the Inca swarm.

However, Lin could use her eyes to observe the movements of the Inca swarm at the 'border'.

The Leviathan was now returning to the Hometree base, while Lin continued to construct the environment and observe the Inca swarm.

These creatures were indeed worthy of observation. Lin mainly evolved by learning from other creatures. She was very curious about how they were born. Lin had seen many creatures evolve, but her territory in the ocean was too small compared to the entire world, so it wasn't strange that there were many creatures that she had never seen before. However, she couldn't tell how these creatures evolved. She had never seen them before, but couldn't she tell how they evolved?

That wasn't necessarily the case.

Lin was inspired by the Inca swarm's excavation site. Inside the excavation site, Lin discovered that there were many species that evolved in transition. Furthermore, the location of each evolution stage was different. Therefore, Lin could use the excavation site to find the ancestors of these creatures.

Although Lin couldn't excavate in the Inca swarm's territory, she could still deduce how the Inca swarm, Aztec, and Maya swarm were born.

The initial state of the 'Division of Work' creatures was probably the larvae. In certain social creatures, the larvae would live together with the adults. These creatures slowly discovered. The larvae could do things that the adults couldn't. For example, they could crawl into crevices to search for food.

Therefore, they would maintain a certain number of larvae in the swarm to maintain their functions. However, the larvae would eventually grow up, and this process would slowly evolve. At this time, these creatures would even specially produce larvae that wouldn't grow up to help the swarm. This was probably the basis of the 'Division of Work'.

Then, the division of work would slowly appear. It was also possible that an individual in the swarm would encounter a situation that caused its cells to change. These changed individuals would co-reproduce with the original individuals that hadn't changed. Because the changed individuals and the original individuals had different functions, they were kept to deal with various situations.

This process was very strange. Just like the birth of a male and female species, at first, they would divide, then combine into cells. After that, the 'male' side would only provide the cells, while the 'female' side 'would be responsible for combining the cells and producing them. Obviously. The difference between males and females meant that each creature had a different 'division of work'. but for creatures like the Inca swarm. Their division of work..

From this process, Lin could also deduce how the 'Cerebrum' army was born. It was actually quite simple. For example, during a battle, it would be impossible for the entire swarm to charge forward. There would always be a few individuals at the back who couldn't squeeze in. These individuals would then observe the entire battle from the back. The brains of these 'observers' would receive more information, causing their brain cells to evolve and become more capable of thinking compared to other individuals.

This unique ability was then preserved. Slowly, these 'observers' would appear in the swarm. They were different from the other 'observers', and at the same time, they were responsible for transmitting the information they saw to other individuals. Because of this, they had a powerful ability to transmit information, and after evolving, they were directly under their command.

This division of work was quite interesting. Normally, creatures would gather the abilities of both males and females into their larvae, while the Division of Work species would develop their abilities separately, thus becoming extremely powerful.

In fact, Division of Work species were very rare, but once they successfully evolved, they would become exponentially stronger. Lin had already seen a primitive Division of Work species a hundred million years ago.

Lin called that species … the Legion Sphere. Lin encountered it during a landing. This was an event that was easily forgotten, but it was quite simple to recall. The Legion Sphere used the mother as a 'transport medium', then released the larvae to attack. The Legion Sphere, or creatures similar to the Legion Sphere, were the ancestors of the Inca swarm that Lin had seen.

Studying the evolution of other creatures was the same as studying Lin's own evolution. Lin was very interested in the evolution of various creatures.

If there was no research, then there would be no progress. Lin hadn't seen the complete Maya swarm of Cerebrum, so she wasn't sure. However, the Aztec swarm's lifestyle of killing everything in sight was definitely very difficult for them to make any progress. Once their species reached a certain point, it would become very difficult for them to evolve.

On the other hand, the Inca swarm most likely excavated fossils to study fish. Furthermore, they also attempted to revive fish in order to find their advantages.

In short, the Inca swarm was clearly the most powerful swarm, so she had to be careful when dealing with them.

However, other than observing the present, she also had to think about the future. When Lin first saw the Legion Sphere, she didn't even think that it could evolve into such a powerful species.

Lin slowly constructed various structures around the Rocky Ground base. She originally wanted to make the Vine Ferns grow rapidly, then create a lot of soil. This was because soil was basically made up of plant and animal remains. However, Lin discovered that the Vine Ferns didn't grow as soon as they came into contact with water. Perhaps it had something to do with temperature, so Lin could only wait for the Twisted Trees to grow. Before that, Lin would place the Green Blanket Umbrella over the Rocky Ground to obtain nutrients.

None of this was close to the border of the Death Spikes, so the Inca swarm didn't notice Lin's construction. They probably didn't.

Just like how Lin had detection methods that the Inca swarm didn't notice, the Inca swarm also had detection methods that Lin didn't notice. It was possible that one of the creatures on the Rocky Ground was one of the Inca swarm's units.

Of course, Lin wouldn't kill them out of suspicion. She only wanted the Brain Hunters to pay attention to the Inca swarm's movements.

Time slowly passed, and it was now the middle of spring. The Inca swarm had gathered quite a lot of troops. These troops were mostly gathered on the Hometree, but Lin still hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

During this time, the Brain Hunters on the Rocky Ground had also become more and more prosperous. The Brain Hunters had built more than 10 Rocky Mountains, and they had also successfully bred another unit other than 'infantry'.

This type of troop was called Corn, which was the pronunciation of the Cerebrum. Lin discovered that this type of troop was used to plant plants. They would plant a kind of fern seed, then collect the leaves of the Twisted Tree, chew them up, and sprinkle them on the ground as nutrients to nourish the ferns.

It seemed like a very ordinary unit, but it also symbolized the recovery of the Maya race.

Additionally, the Brain Hunters once again told Lin that the moon was coming, so she needed to prepare.

In reality, even the Brain Hunters didn't know what to prepare. Therefore, Lin planned to make all sorts of preparations, but the most important thing at the moment was to deal with the Inca swarm.

Lin dug a wider tunnel leading to the underground, and gathered many troops, including the Bechymos, at the peak of the mountain. They would transport nutrients to the underground base, and also prepare for the lava attack of the Inca swarm.

The destruction of the Maya race was most likely caused by the Inca swarm. However, Lin was very curious as to how they managed to produce lava, and so far, she hadn't discovered anything related to it.

Additionally, Lin also conducted some research on the Aztec worms. She released a large number of Fliers to search for traces of the Aztec worms in the desert. Those worms that escaped couldn't possibly have disappeared. Sure enough, after searching for several days and nights, Lin discovered that a large number of Aztec worms had gathered at an empty space in the desert. They seemed to like this place a lot, and included a large number of Aztec worms and a Deepsand Bus. In order to study them, Lin ordered the Fliers to create Shapeshifters that invaded the body of the Deepsand Bus.

The Shapeshifters discovered an egg inside the Deepsand Bus. This egg was located at the position closest to the brain of the Deepsand Bus. Lin knew what it was, a new leader was about to be born.

This was a very good trait of a branching organism. Generally, it was very difficult for an organism to recover from brain damage. However, even if their 'brain' died, the Fliers would still maintain a certain level of intelligence, and would attempt to reproduce a new brain.

About a day or so later, a crack appeared on the egg. The creature that crawled out of the egg was very similar in appearance and size to Montezuma, but it was probably just the surface. It probably didn't have any knowledge when it was born, because the memories in its' brain 'couldn't be transmitted through reproduction. However, it was obvious that they had other methods to transmit knowledge.

After this' Montezuma II 'was born, it immediately crawled to the center of the Deepsand Bus's body. Lin found a small ball there, which was exactly the same as the one Montezuma used to hide his brain cells. Lin speculated that Montezuma had left a part of his memory in this ball, and passed it on to his descendants.

This method was very powerful, and the Aztecs might be able to make a comeback. However, Lin had no interest in dealing with them now. To prevent any problems, Lin had the Shapeshifters climb onto Montezuma II's body and secretly leave wounds on its joints. Then, the Shapeshifters burrowed into its body and parasitized near its brain.

If anything happened, Lin could directly kill it. Then, when the Deepsand Bus produced the next leader, she would destroy its entire race.

However, Lin's main focus was the underground, so she temporarily ignored this place.

Lin slowly expanded the territory of the underground rocky area, and created a new type of breeding chamber. This kind of chamber looked like stone, and was difficult to detect. They were spread all over the rocky area, and there were many cannons nearby.

These preparations were not in vain. Lin finally noticed that the Inca army had begun to move … Oh my god.
