Kapitel 10: Flavorscape

Nicole leaned back, sighed contented, and patted her stomach as they finished their meal. "I don't remember the last time I had something this delicious," she said, grinning at Alex. "You've got real talent."

Calum was still savoring the flavors, looking at Alex in awe. "Man, I still can't believe you made all this. You've been hiding some serious skills from us."

They'd tried everything Alex had planned—the flavorful kebab-inspired sandwich, a hearty pasta dish with a creamy garlic sauce, and a dessert that was just sweet enough to leave a perfect finish. With the taste testing complete, they were down to the business side.

"Alright," Alex began, leaning forward, "we need to figure out which dish to focus on if we turn this into a business. We cannot serve all yet. The main goal is to keep costs down while making sure it's easy to prepare and something people will actually buy."

Nicole nodded thoughtfully. "The pasta is delicious, but it takes more time to prepare, and the ingredients add up. I'd say it's not the most profitable option."

Calum agreed. "Yeah, it's also hard to keep pasta warm and fresh for delivery. The sandwich, on the other hand, is pretty simple, but it's packed with flavor. People would definitely go for something like that."

"I agree," Alex replied. "The sandwich has fewer ingredients and is easier to make in bulk. A kebab-style sandwich could catch on with all the street food trends."

Nicole glanced between them with a smile. "Sounds like we're leaning toward the sandwich, then. We can tweak the recipe to make it unique, too."

"We?" Calum raised an eyebrow, a teasing grin spreading across his face. "Wait a second, Nicole—are you part of this now too?"

Nicole shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Well, why not? I could use the fresh air to do something new. Besides, I've been working at that convenience store for a while and getting bored with it."

She paused before adding, "Besides, if you two have classes, who will handle the orders?"

Calum and Alex exchanged glances, both realizing she had a point.

Nicole continued, her tone practical. "Think about it. You guys could prepare the ingredients and set up everything in the mornings. Then, I can handle the midday orders. We'll use a delivery service for logistics, and my apartment can be our 'central kitchen' until we grow."

Alex thought it over, his eyes lighting up. "Actually, that's perfect. We won't need to rent any space, which means lower overhead costs."

Calum nodded, warming up to the idea. "And it's a win-win for all of us. We split the profits, keep the work manageable, and build from there."

Nicole smiled, clearly enjoying the idea of being part of the team. "Alright, then it's settled. We're in this together."

Alex looked around at his friends, feeling excitement and gratitude. "Looks like we've got our first business—our sandwich venture. And who knows? Maybe this is just the start."

They all nodded in agreement, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. Their plan was set, and it was time to bring their vision to life.

Alex glanced at his friends, trying to mask his impatience. Though his mind was firmly focused on the mission deadline, he couldn't exactly share the reason for his urgency with Calum and Nicole.

"So," he said, "any ideas for a business name? Something… big, like we're aiming high from the start."

Calum leaned back, mulling it over. "How about something that sounds established and ambitious? Like Grand Culinary Ventures or Epicurean Enterprises."

Nicole laughed, raising an eyebrow. "Epicurean sounds cool but a bit too much for a sandwich startup. How about keeping the business name brandable but the brand more approachable?"

"I see. So, make a different business name and brand name?" Calum asked, trying to understand things better.

Alex nodded, considering it. "What about something like 'Eternal Ventures'? It's got that big-company feel, and we can keep the brand name more specific to the food we make."

Nicole's eyes lit up. "Flavorscape," she suggested. "It's catchy and all about taste, like the flavors are our specialty."

Calum grinned. "Flavorscape—yeah, that's perfect for a food brand! So, Eternal Ventures is the business name and Flavorscape for the brand."

Alex felt a sense of relief and excitement. "Alright, Eternal Ventures it is. Let's register it online."

He quickly navigated through the online business registration, inputting the details for Eternal Ventures. His heart pounded with anticipation as he filled in the final fields and paid the small fee needed to register. The process was simple but marked a significant first step.

"Alright. Now for the registration and processing fee..." Alex suddenly realized he didn't have enough money in his account. He was pretty sure Callum wouldn't have enough, either. Just then, Nicole spoke up, saying, "Use mine. Let me make the payment. I want to contribute, too."

"Thank you, Nicole," said Alex.

"Done," she said, hitting the final submission button.

Just as Alex finished registering the business, a soft chime sounded in his mind, and a familiar notification appeared.

An online presence—it was precisely what they needed to kick-start Flavorscape. Alex felt excited and glanced at Calum and Nicole, who looked back at him curiously.

"Alright," he began, "we've got our next big move, building an online presence for Flavorscape."

Nicole's face lit up. "That's perfect! We could start with a simple social media page, maybe Momentia or Sphere, where we can post photos of our sandwiches, but let's make it more engaging," she suggested, her mind already working. What if we share some behind-the-scenes videos? People love watching the process."

Author's note: Assume Momentia is something similar to Instagram and Sphere is something similar to Tiktok.

Calum nodded, catching onto the idea. "Yeah, like showing you cooking, maybe even giving quick cooking tips and tricks. You could do short recipe clips, too—just enough to get people interested."

Alex's mind buzzed with ideas as they talked. This wasn't just about selling sandwiches anymore; it was about creating a brand people could connect with.

"We could also share stories about how we started," he said. "Like a mini-series on the journey of launching Flavorscape. And later, if people start to follow us, we could post polls for new recipe ideas. Get people involved."

Nicole clapped her hands, her excitement evident. "Yes! And when we're ready, we could think of expanding beyond sandwiches. Imagine ready-to-eat meals or food using retort technology, so people anywhere could get a taste of Flavorscape."

Alex raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the idea. "Retort technology? That could help us reach people beyond Brimstone… even go national if we get big enough."

Calum grinned. "One step at a time. Let's get those social media pages up and start with what we do best—the sandwiches."

Alex pulled out his phone, and the three gathered around to set up the first Flavorscape social media profiles. Calum quickly came up with a logo designed on his phone. It was simple but good for the start.

They brainstormed ideas for engaging posts, introducing their signature sandwich, showcasing Alex's unique knife skills, sharing behind-the-scenes clips of the cooking process, and even giving a few secret tips for perfect seasoning.

As Alex typed in the profile details and hit "Create," he felt a thrill of anticipation. This was the beginning of something real—a business that could grow, evolve, and reach people far beyond what he'd initially imagined.
