"Phew, good work team!"
Just as she was celebrating, her head became dizzy and she started falling back. She instinctively activated Santen Kesshun to soften her fall, using the last of her spirit power reserves. A large triangular shield appeared under her. The six spirits reverted back to hairpins once she was safe.
Orihime woke up later inside a strange shop. She already knew that Urahara had been watching her and had come to pick her up when she collapsed. She touched her hairpins and smiled. She noticed after exiting the room she was resting in that Yasurtora Sado was there. He was already sitting in front of this eccentric, ex-captain shop owner.
"I bet you are confused about what you saw today. So, allow me to explain to you. Those monsters are called Hollows, they are souls that have fallen to negative emotions or were devoured and turned into Hollows. Kurosaki Ichigo is a soul reaper whose job is to purify these Hollows."
He had explained in more detail, but Orihime was distracted. Sado was quite confused and occasionally asked a few things, but she still hadn't said anything.
"Miss Orihime, do you have any questions?"
"Mister Urahara, can we please talk alone for a few minutes?" Urahara was surprised but nodded. Sado left and slid the door closed. Once she confirmed they were alone her demeanor changed. Due to the fight, her spirit power had increased quite a bit. She released the bottled-up spiritual power and her Reiatsu spread throughout the room and caused the air to thicken.
"Oh? I did not expect that." He said with a grin. He flipped open his folding fan and covered his mouth. "What do you mean by showing me this?"
"Mister Urahara, I am aware of the Hollows, Soul Reapers, and Soul Society. I also know about your exile…" The pressure she was giving off in the room was completely negated and turned back onto her. Instead of the golden hue in the air it switched to red.
"…It… spoke… to… me… the… hogyoku." Hearing this the pressure relaxed. Orihime knew that deep down, he was a scientist. Getting something so interesting in front of him he would want to unravel the secrets.
"Even if something called hogyoku existed, what exactly do you want from me?"
"Mister Urahara, please transfer the hogyoku to me."
Urahara didn't respond for a while. Orihime had no idea what was going on through his head. He had a really strange personality in the series. Sometimes, he would do things for absolutely no reason, but it seemed like everything was part of a grand calculation.
"Do you know what you're asking for? It isn't something that can be controlled."
"I can suppress it with my power. If you don't believe that, test me. But you have to extract it before Rukia is taken away. But you already knew that."
'Oh crap, I can't believe I'm trying to con the smartest person in Soul Society like this. Hopefully he doesn't kill me on the spot.'
Urahara stood up and walked over to the side room. Tessai was waiting there patiently, it seemed he had been listening in.
"What do you think Tessai?"
"Hm, there is absolutely nothing to go off of, but since she's Ichigo's friend and a human… Perhaps hiding it with her is safer."
Urahara seemed unconvinced. Orihime was worried that she may lose the new life she was just given, maybe she had been too bold—
"Okay, let's do it."
'Er, never mind. Guess he's either so smart he realizes this is all a plot by Aizen to steal the hogyoku, or he's a bit crazy.'
"Boss, the sky gate is opening. And the preparations are complete."
"Good. Bring Orihime and Sado to watch the show while I prepare the extraction device."
Orihime knew that this was when Ichigo would battle the Menos Grande. It was not particularly surprising since Ichigo has triple plot armor. Being in a new land she felt like she should update her wardrobe to help with immersion.
"Mr. Urahara, I, uh, actually need to go do some shopping. Can I come back after Rukia leaves?"
"Do be careful out there."
Urahara said ominously. Orihime laughed awkwardly and left the shop. She was certain that he wouldn't draw unnecessary suspicion by harming her. Part of what she was relying on was the main character aura. Urahara would not want to upset Ichigo when he's necessary to all the plots.
"Well, I guess I succeeded. Time to go find a kimono and do my hair. I need to make a good first impression in the Soul Society arc and gain allies!"
Orihime walked into a store that sold classical clothing and found a light pink cherry blossom kimono. She also bought a black kimono without any particular designs. Fortunately, the shop also sold socks and sandals so her outfit was complete.
Orihime did a lot of cosplay for various Bleach characters and even some original characters from fans. Her skill in hair styling was quite good so she bought some ingredients for dinner and headed back home. On the way she was constantly releasing her spiritual power in hope to lure some Hollows.
"The only way to improve is to fight! Phew, I'm actually terrified, but it seems fusing with Orihime's soul has given me some of her laid-back personality. Maybe that's why I could talk to Urahara like that. Oh, looks like a fish took the bait."
A black mist appeared above Orihime and a Hollow twice the size of the previous one she took down came out of it. She only chuckled and willed her power into motion. The hairpins split into six again and she immediately went into action.
"Tsubaki, Koten Zanshun, I Reject!" The red spirit attacked the same way as before, however, the size and intensity of the disk was much higher. The fight from last time was a huge boost to her spiritual power. The Hollow tried blocking it, but was instead split in half with no resistance.
"Poo, too weak. Good work guys!" Orihime said to her spirits. They looked at each other, then disappeared. She continued on home, whistling. Her imagination started to run wild. She wondered if she could get her spiritual power to the sixth rank, form a Zanpukto spirit and go through the academy.
"There would probably be a lot of discrimination since I am still human. Actually, there is a way but it's really dangerous. That insane Unhohana Retsu may let me join the healing division. Alternatively, the battle maniac Kenpachi may let me join directly if I give him a good fight. However, in the end all of this relies on whether Urahara gives me the hogyoku or not."
Once Ichigo fought the Menos Grande, it would alert the Soul Society and they would come after Rukia. The most important thing for Orihime right now was practicing to speak properly and behave formally for the various officers later. Manners were extremely important to people like Yamamoto.
"Orihime! You're alright. What happened at school yesterday? That monster… I could feel it. But it went away soon after."
"Oh, uh, some weird guy in hat and clogs showed up and beat it… I must have fallen asleep from shock."
"Well at least you're safe."
Orihime remembered that after that fight in the original timeline, she left to school early and had a heart to heart with Rukia. She was contemplating whether to tell everyone that she would be leaving, but eventually decided not to tell anyone.
…
During class Orihime was extremely distracted. She planned to head straight to Urahara's shop during lunch and skip evening classes. Byakuya would arrive tonight and she felt it was necessary to lay a foundation for the future. If she could perform well in front of a captain, the Soul Society arc will go a lot smoother.
The bell rang and she was the first one out of the door. Several people asked her to come eat lunch with them, but she said she was busy. She immediately made a beeline towards Urahara's shop. Out of urgency, she used her spiritual power to speed herself up.
"Ugh, I need to get Yoruichi to teach me shunpo." She grumbled about her slow speed.
When she arrived, Urahara was already waiting while petting a cat. Orihime looked excited seeing Yoruichi. She just remembered that this was around the time that this overpowered character appeared.
"Orihime, you came. Come inside."
Once inside, she sat down on the mat and was served tea. The cat walked over and sniffed her. Orihime didn't want to seem more suspicious so she didn't reveal the cat's identity.
"Mr. Urahara, did you manage to get it?"
Urahara walked over and sat down. Then he took out a transparent case with a bluish pearl in the center. When Orihime saw it, she unconsciously reached out to touch it. Suddenly, the hogyoku started to shine brightly, and after a flash of light, it was no longer there.
